Synthesis of the common left-half part of pectenotoxins

The common left-half [C31-C33(OC1-C7)-C40] part of pectenotoxins has been synthesized convergently from the C31-C35, C36-C40, and C1-C7 parts. The C31-C35 part, prepared via a new route shorter than our previous route, was coupled with the C36-C40 part through reductive lithiation and addition reactions to give an adduct stereoselectively, which was converted to a cyclic acetal corresponding to the C31-C40 part. The left-half was synthesized by a three-step process including esterification of the C31-C40 part with the C1-C7 part.     

Drug–tea polyphenol interaction

Propericiazine (PCZ) is an antipsychotic agent used for the treatment and the prevention of relapse of schizophrenia. We found that when an oral solution containing PCZ was mixed with a green tea drink, the residual content of PCZ was reduced by forming an insoluble complex between PCZ and tea polyphenol. In this study, the mechanism underlying the incompatibility of PCZ with green tea polyphenol (GTP) in the solution was clarified by isothermal titration microcalorimetry (ITC). Both solutions of 27.4 mM PCZ and 2.2 mM (?)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCg), which is a main ingredient of GTP, were mixed and then PCZ in the filtrate was reduced to approximately 60 %. According to measurement at 298 K by ITC, PCZ formed an insoluble complex with EGCg at an associate constant (K) of 4.75 × 10² M^?1 exothermically, ΔH = ?40.0 kJ mol^?1. When (?)-epicatechin gallate (ECg) was used as the GTP, PCZ interacted with ECg with K and ΔH values of 3.74 × 10² M^?1 and ?22.1 kJ mol^?1, respectively. On the other hand, little heat of the reaction between PCZ and (?)-epigallocatechin or (?)-epicatechin was observed. The results indicated that the main reason for this incompatibility was the formation of an insoluble complex by PCZ and a gallate-type GTP such as EGCg and ECg in the aqueous solution.     

Synthesis and Antibacterial Activity of 3‐(Substituted arylmethyl)‐4‐acylaminomethyloxazolidin‐2‐ones and Derivatization to Symmetrical Twin‐Drug Type Molecules

In connection with our studies on antibacterial active compounds in the class of new oxazolidinones against Gram‐positive (Staphylococcus aureus) and Gram‐negative (Escherichia coli) strains, some molecular modifications were attempted. In this study, molecular modifications of 4‐aminomethyloxazolidin‐2‐ones ( 3a ) to the corresponding 4‐acylaminomethyloxazolidin‐2‐one derivatives ( 3c–d ) and preparations of the represented twin‐drug type molecules ( 10–14 ) were investigated. Some additional 4‐dialkylaminomethyloxazolidin‐2‐ones ( 2 ) were also synthesized. The synthesized compounds were evaluated for antibacterial activity with Gram‐positive (S. aureus) and Gram‐negative (E. coli) strains.     

Three lanostane triterpenoids with antitrypanosomal activity from the fruiting body of Hexagonia tenuis

During the search for new antitrypanosomal drug leads, three new antitrypanosomal compounds, hexatenuins A–C (1–3), were isolated from the fruiting body of Hexagonia tenuis. 1 and 3 possessed an unusual malonate half-ester functional group at C-3 position, and 1 and 2 had a spirostructure in the side-chain. Their structures were elucidated using MS analyses, extensive 2D-heteronuclear NMR data interpretation. Compounds 1–3 showed in vitro antitrypanosomal activity against Trypanosoma brucei brucei with IC₅₀ values of 0.57, 8.60 and 5.62 μg/ml, respectively.

Though our situations are general, the results are very simple. Carbon dioxide induced separation of ionic liquids and water

The most favorable condition for lipid hydrolysis by Rhizopus delemar lipase in combination with a sugar–ester and alcohol W/O microemulsion system

The hydrophobic interfacial characterization of sugar–ester alcohol W/O microemulsion was investigated in order to develop a suitable design for reaction media. A W/O microemulsion system was prepared as a combination of sugar–ester, DK-ester-F-110 with alcohol as a cosolvent. The diameter of the sub-micron-sized water pool, the hydrophobicity of the water pool, and the fluidity of the micro-interface were studied to analyze the reactivity of Rhizopus delemar lipase in lipid hydrolysis. The diameter of the sub-micron sized water pool was measured by dynamic laser light scattering. It was proportional to the 0.33 power of W_soln and decayed with increasing alcohol concentration. The initial reaction rate of the hydrolysis of triolein in W/O microemulsion depended on the solubilized water content. The hydrophilic character of the micro-water pool was estimated from the fluorescence wavelength indicated by Coumarin 343. The maximum initial reaction rate appeared at 450–460 nm. The fluidity of the micro-interface was investigated by fluorescence anisotropy using TMA-DPH. A suitable physicochemical reaction condition for high reactivity to occur was found, satisfying both the hydrophilicity and the fluidity of the micro-interface.
