We report the determination of intramyocellular lipids (IMCLs) of the soleus muscle of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) using proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy. In addition, the various anthropometric and biochemical profiles of these patients were determined, including estimation of C-reactive protein (CRP), an inflammatory marker of coronary heart disease, and insulin resistance [Homeostasis Model Assessment (HOMA-IR)]. The estimated CRP level and the IMCL content in these patients were correlated with body mass index, percentage of body fat, other measures of abdominal obesity, serum lipoproteins, fasting and post-oral glucose load serum insulin levels and other surrogate markers of insulin resistance. The IMCL content (P=.04), CRP (P=.008) and insulin resistance (P=.0007) were significantly higher in T2DM patients compared to healthy controls. However, IMCL content did not correlate with values of fasting insulin, HOMA-IR or CRP in either group. These findings have strong implications of increased cardiovascular risk in Asian Indians with T2DM. The absence of relationship between CRP and IMCL needs to be explored further in a study using a large sample size. 相似文献

Diabetes mellitus is a complex disorder that disturbs the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. Medicinal plants play an important role in the management of diabetes mellitus. The present study was aimed to evaluate the antidiabetic potential of Zaleya decandra roots on alloxan-induced diabetes in rats. Oral administration of ethanolic extract of the root (200 mg/kg body weight/day) for 15 days restored the levels of glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides, total proteins, urea, creatinine, lipid peroxidation level, and antioxidant enzymes significantly in diabetic rats. Histopathological studies showed significant changes like necrosis and degeneration in the liver and pancreas of alloxan-induced diabetic rats. Also these histopathological abnormalities were found to be normalized after treatment with Z. decandra extract. The efficacy of the root extract was found to be equivalent when compared to the standard hypoglycemic drug glibenclamide (1.25 mg/kg body weight/day, orally) in diabetic rats. 相似文献

1,2-Amino alcohols are high-value, versatile functional groups that are found in scores of biologically active molecules and other interesting synthetic targets such as ligands and auxiliaries. Given their prominent position within organic compounds of import, it is no surprise to note that many routes have been developed to access this motif and there are many different starting points from which a synthetic chemist might embark on a synthesis. However, one particular approach stands out from the others, and this is the direct conversion of an alkene to a vicinal amino alcohol derivative (oxyamination). Research in this field has been particularly active in recent years and many interesting new methodologies have been reported. The purpose of this review is to give the reader a tour of the methods that have emerged in the last few years so one can appreciate the myriad of different metals and reagents that can accomplish the oxyamination of alkenes. The linear and weakly nonlinear stability analysis of the quiescent state in a viscoelastic fluid subject to vertical solute concentration and temperature gradients is investigated. The non-Newtonian behavior of the viscoelastic fluid is characterized using the Oldroyd model. Analytical expressions for the critical Rayleigh numbers and corresponding wave numbers for the onset of stationary or oscillatory convection subject to cross diffusion effects is determined. A stability diagram clearly demarcates non-overlapping regions of finger and diffusive instabilities. A Lorenz system is obtained in the case of the weakly nonlinear stability analysis. The effect of Dufour and Soret parameters on the heat and mass transports are determined and discussed. Due to consideration of dilute concentrations of the second diffusing component the route to chaos in binary viscoelastic fluid systems is similar to that of single-component (thermal) viscoelastic fluid systems. 相似文献

A rapid and sensitive liquid chromatographic–tandem mass spectrometric method has been developed and validated for the estimation of sarpogrelate in human plasma. Sarpogrelate was extracted from human plasma by solid-phase extraction. Temocapril was used as the internal standard. Heated electron spray ionization mass spectrometry was performed on a TSQ Quantum Ultra MS system. The LC column was a Hypurity C18 and the mobile phase was 2 mM ammonium formate (pH 3.00 ± 0.05):acetonitrile (30:70 v/v). A flow rate of 0.250 mL min?1 was used. The quantitative analyses were carried out in the positive ion and full scan mode over the mass range m/z 60–500. The capillary, vaporiser temperatures were 325 and 200 °C respectively. The sheath gas pressure, spray voltage, collision energy and tube lense were 40, 3,500 V, 19 V, 198 V, respectively, and the mass spectra of the drugs were recorded by total ion monitoring. Retention times and characteristic mass fragments were recorded and the chosen diagnostic mass fragments were monitored in the mass chromatography mode. Signal intensities of each of the mass fragments: m/z 477 [M + H]+ for temocapril, m/z 430 [M + H]+ for sarpogrelate, were used for quantification. The calibration curves (the ratio between the peak areas as signal intensities of the drug analyzed and that of the internal standard (temocapril: m/z 477 [M + H]+) vs. the concentration of drug) exhibited linearity over the concentration range 5.00–2,500.00 ng mL?1 human plasma. The recovery and the accuracy were calculated by comparing the peak areas as the signal intensities of each mass fragment for the drug in spiked samples after solid-phase extraction from human plasma to the peak area as the signal intensity of the mass fragment of internal standard sample. The method involves a rapid solid phase extraction from plasma, simple isocratic chromatography conditions and mass spectrometric detection that enables detection up to picogram levels with a total run time of 3.0 min only. The method was validated over the range of 5.0–2,500.0 ng mL?1. The absolute recoveries for sarpogrelate (93.72%) and IS (91.42%) achieved from spiked plasma samples were consistent and reproducible. 相似文献

Ion-exchange precipitation was used in geochemical analysis where the various trace elements can be determined by prior separation over an ion-exchange column. By application of the principles of classical wet analysis the presence of trace elements was verified and their quantitative determination performed in rock samples by converting an anion exchanger into the respective ionic forms to obtain the insoluble salts through the action of counterion (an anion) of the resin and the metal ion in the solution. The metal ions are then eluted by suitable eluting reagents that form soluble salts. The columns of 5 g Amberlite IR-400 were used and were converted into the desired anionic forms. The different forms used were sulfide, hydroxyl, carbonate, chromate, and sulfate. Flow rate was maintained at 1 ml/min.
