Thermal and pH‐sensitive gold nanoparticles from H‐shaped block copolymers of (PNIPAM/PDMAEMA)‐b‐PEG‐b‐(PNIPAM/PDMAEMA)

Well‐defined H‐shaped pentablock copolymers composed of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM), poly(N,N‐dimethylaminoethylacrylamide) (PDMAEMA), and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) with the chain architecture of (A/B)‐b‐C‐b‐(A/B) were synthesized by the combination of single‐electron‐transfer living radical polymerization, atom‐transfer radical polymerization, and click chemistry. Single‐electron‐transfer living radical polymerization of NIPAM using α,ω azide‐capped PEG macroinitiator resulted in PNIPAM‐b‐PEG‐b‐PNIPAM with azide groups at the block joints. Atom‐transfer radical polymerization of DMAEMA initiated by propargyl 2‐chloropropionate gave out α‐capped alkyne‐PDMAEMA. The H‐shaped copolymers were finally obtained by the click reaction between PNIPAM‐b‐PEG‐b‐PNIPAM and alkyne‐PDMAEMA. These copolymers were used to prepare stable colloidal gold nanoparticles (GNPs) in aqueous solution without any external reducing agent. The formation of GNPs was affected by the length of PDMAEMA block, the feed ratio of the copolymer to HAuCl₄, and the pH value. The surface plasmon absorbance of these obtained GNPs also exhibited pH and thermal dependence because of the existence of PNIAPM and PDAMEMA blocks. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Multidimensional Pattern Recognition and Classification of White Blood Cells Using Support Vector Machines

This study introduces a new algorithm to optimize the pattern recognition of different white blood cell types in flow cytometry. The behavior of parametric data clusters in a multidimensional space is analyzed using the learning system known as Support Vector Machines (SVM). Beckman‐Coulter Corporation supplied flow cytometry data of numerous patients to be used as training and testing sets for the algorithm. Subsequently, the characteristics of the cells provided in these sets were used to train a SVM based classifier. The objective in developing this algorithm was to identify the category of a given blood sample and provide information to medical doctors in the form of diagnostic references for a specific disease state, lymphocytic leukemia. With the application of the hypothesis space, the learning bias and the learning algorithm, the SVM classifier was successfully trained to evaluate misclassification ratios in flow cytometry data in an effort to recognize abnormal blood cell patterns and address the ubiquitous problem of data overlap through the use of the maximal margin classifier.     

Ⅱ型裂纹疲劳扩展中超载行为的研究

利用铝合金ＬＹ１２ＣＺ制十字型试样进行Ⅱ型裂纹的疲劳扩展试验，施加若干次短瞬的Ⅱ型超载。发现Ⅱ型裂纹的超载行为与Ⅰ型裂纹的不同，裂纹的扩展速率可几倍于未超载时相同应力强度因子幅度下的扩展速率；而且超载后的短瞬期间，裂纹在塑性区内仍保持较快的速率扩展。试验研究表明：Ⅱ型超载和Ⅰ型超载也许分别受不同的机制控制；它更类似于Ⅲ型超载。     

非交换Lipschitz-φ算子代数

本文引入由紧距离空间(K,d)到给定Banach代数A中的Lipschitz-φ算子构成的非交换Banach代数L~φ(K,A)与l~φ(K,A),证明了它们都是由K到A的全体连续算子构成的非交换Banach代数C(K,A)的子代数,并且关于范数||f||φ=L_φ(f)+||f||∞是Banach代数,研究了不同 Lipschitz尺度函数φ对应的大(小)Lipschitz代数之间的关系。特别当φ(t)=t~α时,引入了极限代数lim_(α→0+)l~α(K,A),lim_(α→+∞)l~α(K,A),lim_(α→0+)L~α(K,A)与lim_(α→+∞)L~α(K,A)以及距离空间的Lipschitz连通性,得到了lim_(α→+∞)l~α(K,A)=A的充要条件,也给出了lim_(α→0+)L~α(K,A)=C(K,A)的条件。     

Highly efficient high-power thulium-doped germanate glass fiber laser

A 64 W fiber laser at 1.9 microm with a slope efficiency of 68% with respect to the launching pump power at 800 nm was demonstrated in a one-end pump configuration using a piece of 20 cm long newly developed thulium-doped germanate glass double-cladding single-mode fiber. A quantum efficiency of 1.8 was achieved. An output laser power of 104 W at 1.9 microm was demonstrated from a piece of 40 cm long fiber with a dual-end pump configuration.

Copper-free click conjugation of methotrexate to a PAMAM dendrimer platform

The synthesis of a generation 5 (G5) poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimer platform having cyclooctyne ligands that were subsequently be used for a copper-free Huisgen 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition (click reaction) with azido modified methotrexate is described. The G5 PAMAM dendrimer was first partially (70%) acetylated and then coupled with 20 cyclooctyne ligands through amide bonds. The remaining primary amine groups on the dendrimer surface were neutralized by acetylation. The platform was then ‘clicked’ with different numbers (5, 10, and 17) of γ-azido functionalized methotrexate. The copper-free click reactions were stoichiometric with excellent yields.
