The principles of bipolar electrochemistry and its electroanalysis applications

The present study reports the wireless technique that generates asymmetric reactivity on the surface of the conducting substrate without any direct electrical connection in the electrolyte solution by inducing external power. In recent years, bipolar electrochemical systems have received special attention that they are used for new kinds of electrochemical applications ranging from electrodeposition to electroanalytical chemistry. Bipolar electrochemistry is a unique technique because of the lack of direct electrical connection to the bipolar electrode. In this perspective article, we first illustrate the concept and history of the bipolar electrochemistry as well as their application based on the open and closed bipolar configuration in different fields.

Carbon–carbon coupling reactions catalyzed by supported Pd porphyrins

The tetrakis(4‐N‐methylpyridinium)porphyrinatopalladium(II) iodide, [Pd(TMPyP)]I₄, supported on Dowex 50WX8 and Amberlite IR‐120 ion‐exchange resins, was used as heterogeneous, recyclable and active catalyst for the Suzuki–Miyaura and Heck cross‐coupling reactions. These catalysts were applied to coupling of various aryl halides with phenylboronic acid and styrene in Suzuki and Heck reactions, respectively, and the corresponding products were obtained in excellent yields and short reaction times. The catalysts could be recovered easily by simple filtration and reused several times without significant loss of their catalytic activity. The catalysts were characterized by diffuse‐reflectance UV–visible spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy, and their stability was confirmed by TGA. A novel technique based on diffuse reflectance near-infrared spectrometry and back-propagation artificial neural network for estimation of particle size in TiO2 nano particle samples

Determination of particle size is one of the critical parameters in nanotechnology. The relationship between particle size and diffuse reflectance (DR) spectra in near-infrared region has been applied to introduce a method for estimation of particle size. Back-propagation artificial neural network (BP-ANN) as a nonlinear model was applied to estimate average particle size based on near-infrared diffuse reflectance spectra. Thirty five different nano TiO₂ samples with different particle size were analyzed by DR-FTNIR spectrometry and the obtained data were processed by BP-ANN. The network was trained by 30 samples and was evaluated by the remaining 5 samples. In order to establish whether the new method is applicable for estimation of particle size of nano structured samples, the optimized model was applied to analyze 44 nano TiO₂ samples. It was observed that ANN using the back-propagation algorithm is capable of generalization and could correctly predict the average particle size of nano-sized particles.     

Maximality of linear continuous logic

The linear compactness theorem is a variant of the compactness theorem holding for linear formulas. We show that the linear fragment of continuous logic is maximal with respect to the linear compactness theorem and the linear elementary chain property. We also characterize linear formulas as those preserved by the ultramean construction.
