Hyperfine characterization of Bi1.9Te0.1SrNb1.9Hf0.1O9

The Aurivillius type oxide Bi_1.9Te_0.1SrNb_1.9Hf_0.1O₉ has been studied by Perturbed Angular Correlations spectroscopy using ¹⁸¹Ta probes. The spin precession curves were measured from room temperature up to 873 K. Two sites are occupied by probes and the temperature dependence of both indicates a continuous phase transition at about 625 K. One site is ordered while the other is disordered. This situation is analyzed in terms of simple models already applied to perovskites. The transition temperature of the solid solution Bi_2−xTe_xSrNb_2−xHf_xO₉ (with 0≤x≤0.5) shows a strong dependence on composition.     

Area orthogonality in normed linear spaces

A new concept of orthogonality in real normed linear spaces is introduced. Typical properties of orthogonality (homogeneity, symmetry, additivity, ...) and relations between this orthogonality and other known orthogonalities (Birkhoff, Boussouis, Unitary-Boussouis and Diminnie) are studied. In particular, some characterizations of inner product spaces are obtained.     

Representation of Hilbert algebras and implicative semilattices

In this paper we shall give a topological representation for Hilbert algebras that extend the topological representation given by A. Diego in [4]. For implicative semilattices this representation gives a full duality. We shall also consider the representation for Boolean ring.     

Martingale property of empirical processes

It is shown that for a large collection of independent martingales, the martingale property is preserved on the empirical processes. Under the assumptions of independence and identical finite-dimensional distributions, it is proved that a large collection of stochastic processes are martingales essentially if and only if the empirical processes are also martingales. These two results have implications on the testability of the martingale property in scientific modeling. Extensions to submartingales and supermartingales are given.

     

Spectral Properties of Image Measures Under the Infinite Conflict Interaction

We introduce the conflict interaction with two positions between a couple of image probability measures and consider the associated dynamical system. We prove the existence of invariant limiting measures and find the criteria for these measures to be a pure point, absolutely continuous, or singular cotinuous as well as to have any topological type and arbitary Hausdorff dimension.

Diastereoselective [4+2] annulation of vinyl carbodiimides with N-alkyl imines. Asymmetric synthetic access to the batzelladine alkaloids

A diastereoselective [4+2] annulation of vinyl carbodiimides with chiral N-alkyl imines has been developed to access the stereochemically rich tricyclic core of the batzelladine alkaloids. Its application to the asymmetric synthesis of batzelladine D permitted the use of long-range, directed hydrogenation and stereoselective intramolecular iodoamination as additional key steps to establish the remaining stereocenters within the natural product with excellent stereocontrol.     

Capillary zone electrophoresis for analysis of phytochelatins and other thiol peptides in complex biological samples derivatized with monobromobimane

A new method to improve the analysis of phytochelatins and their precursors (cysteine, gamma-Glu-Cys, and glutathione) derivatized with monobromobimane (mBrB) in complex biological samples by capillary zone electrophoresis is described. The effects of the background electrolyte pH, concentration, and different organic additives (acetonitrile, methanol, and trifluoroethanol) on the separation were studied to achieve optimum resolution and number of theoretical plates of the analyzed compounds in the electropherograms. Optimum separation of the thiol peptides was obtained with 150 mM phosphate buffer at pH 1.60. Separation efficiency was improved when 2.5% v/v methanol was added to the background electrolyte. The electrophoretic conditions were 13 kV and capillary dimensions with 30 cm length from the inlet to the detector (38 cm total length) and 50 microm inner diameter. The injection was by pressure at 50 mbar for 17 s. Under these conditions, the separation between desglycyl-peptides and phytochelatins was also achieved. We also describe the optimum conditions for the derivatization of biological samples with mBrB to increase electrophoretic sensitivity and number of theoretical plates. The improved method was shown to be simple, reproducible, selective, and accurate in measuring thiol peptides in complex biological samples, the detection limit being 2.5 microM glutathione at a wavelength of 390 nm.     

Diazoniapentaphenes. Synthesis from pyridine‐2‐carboxaldehyde and structural verifications

Reactions of pyridine‐2‐carboxaldehyde (9) with α,α′‐dibromo‐o‐ and p‐xylenes led to the corresponding bis‐pyridinium aldehydes 10 and 14. These aldehydes were quite reactive and the respective hydrates 11 and 15 were also formed. Cyclization of 10 or 11 with 48% HBr led to 12 while cyclization with PPA followed by conversion to the bis tribromide and loss of bromine led to 1. Cyclization of 14 or 15 with 48% HBr led to 3. Attempts to react α,α′‐dibromo‐m‐xylene with pyridine‐2‐carboxaldehyde (9) were not successful for the preparation of the bis‐pyridinium aldehyde 13. The bis‐pyridinium acetals 4, 5 and 6 were prepared and cyclized to afford 1, 2 and 3 , respectively, by the previously reported procedures. The structures of 1 and 2 were verified by ¹H‐NMR and ¹³C‐NMR spectroscopy while that of 3 was confirmed by X‐ray analysis.
