Design,stereoselective synthesis and computational calculations of novel hybrid compounds via Pauson-Khand reactions

A series of novel chiral hybrid compounds between benzofuran and bicyclic cyclopentenone and also benzothiophene and bicyclic cyclopentenone have been designed and synthesized. Chiral enynes derived from enantiomerically enriched homoallyl and homopropargyl alcohols were converted into bicyclic cyclopentenone structures by intramolecular Pauson-Khand reactions. This strategy provides a facile access to various bicyclic cyclopentenones substituted with benzofuran or benzothiophene ring systems in good yields. In addition to the experimental work, the ground state geometries of the hybrid compounds were optimized using Density Functional Theory applications at the B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) level in order to obtain information about the 3D geometries and electronic structure.     

Proton transport properties in hybrid membranes investigated by ac-electrogravimetry

In this paper, a hybrid organic/inorganic membrane, based on poly(VDF-co-HFP) polymer associated to mesostructured modified silica and made through sol–gel techniques, was characterized by using ac-electrogravimetry. In order to perform experiments, a polypyrrole–heteropolyanion doped mediator film was inserted between the working electrode of the microbalance and the hybrid membrane. This mediator film, which is characterized by mixed conducting properties, is necessary to provide proton transfer between the different interfaces and in that way, the proton transport inside the hybrid film which is only an ionic conducting material. Proton transfer and transport was characterized through ac-electrogravimetry and an original theoretical approach was developed for extracting the attractive parameters. The change of the exchanged species concentration and the diffusion coefficient of the protons in the hybrid membrane, were estimated, for the first time, according to the applied potential. These studies pointed out that the low conductivity value in this hybrid membrane is related to i) the low diffusion coefficient of proton (10^? 7 cm² s^? 1) in this membrane associated, ii) the low concentration of proton in the membrane (0.4 meq g^? 1).     

Emulsifier-free emulsion copolymerization of styrene with methacrylic acid as a method of preparing building blocks for photonic crystals

Monodisperse polymer particles with diameters from 230 to 420 nm have been synthesized by the emulsifier-free emulsion copolymerization of styrene with methacrylic acid. It has been shown that an initiator, chain regulators, comonomer ratio, and pH of a medium influence the dispersity of latexes, the distribution of carboxyl groups in polymer particles, as well as their swelling behavior and electrophoretic mobility. These characteristics of polymer particles are substantial for designing perfect lattices of three-dimensional photonic crystals on their basis.     

Some Finiteness Results in the Representation Theory of Isometry Groups of Regular Trees

Let G denote the isometry group of a regular tree of degree ≥3. The notion of congruence subgroup is introduced and finite generation of the congruence Hecke algebras is proven. Let U be congruence subgroup and (G; U) be the category of smooth representations of G generated by their U-fixed vectors. We also show that this subcategory is closed under taking subquotients. All these results are analogues of well-known results in the case of p-adic groups. It is also shown that the category of admissible representation of G is Noetherian in the sense that every subrepresentation of a finitely generated admissible representation is again finitely generated. Since we want to emphesize the similarities between these groups and p-adic groups, we give the same proofs which also work in the p-adic case whenever possible.
