Higher dimensional Enriques varieties and automorphisms of generalized Kummer varieties

We define Enriques varieties as a higher dimensional generalization of Enriques surfaces and construct examples by using fixed point free automorphisms on generalized Kummer varieties. We also classify all automorphisms of generalized Kummer varieties that come from an automorphism of the underlying abelian surface.     

Monitoring kth order runs in binary processes

Procedures for continuously monitoring binary attribute data processes are of utmost relevance for fields like electrical engineering, chemical production, software quality engineering, healthcare monitoring, and many more. In this article, new approaches are proposed, where kth order runs in a binary process are monitored. We derive methods for evaluating the performance of the new control charts, discuss computational issues of these methods and give design recommendations for the control charts. A real-data example demonstrates the successful application of the new control procedures.     

Full 3D-3C velocity measurement inside a liquid immersion droplet

We describe a tomographic PIV system for the measurement of the internal flow in a droplet over a stagnant and a moving surface. The flow condition is representative of the flow in an immersion droplet applied in a liquid immersion lithography machine. We quantify the accuracy and reliability of the measurements and compare the shape of the reconstructed measurement volume to shape measurements by means of shadowgraphy. First results indicate the internal flow pattern near the receding contact line, showing a small recirculation region.     

Embedded constant mean curvature surfaces with special symmetry

We give sharp, necessary conditions on complete embedded CMC surfaces with three ends and an extra reflection symmetry. The respective submoduli space is a two-dimensional variety in the moduli space of general CMC surfaces. Fundamental domains of our CMC surfaces are characterized by associated great circle polygons in the three-sphere. Received: 23 January 1998 / Revised version: 23 October 1998     

Birkhoff-functions that are bounded on prescribed sets

We prove the existence of entire functions which are universal under translations and bounded on certain prescribed sets. It is also shown that the family of all these universal functions is a dense but not a G_δ-subset in the space of entire functions provided with a natural metric.
