On uniform propagation of chaos

In this paper we obtain a time-uniform propagation estimate for a system of interacting diffusion processes. Using a well defined metric function h , our result guarantees a time-uniform estimate for the convergence of a class of interacting stochastic differential equations towards their mean field limit, under conditions that ensure that the decay associated to the internal dynamics term dominates the interaction and noise terms. Our result should have diverse applications, particularly in neuroscience, and allows for models more elaborate than the one of Wilson and Cowan. In particular, the internal dynamics need not be that of linear decay.     

Solvability of a Mixed Nonlocal Problem for a Nonlinear Singular Viscoelastic Equation

The present paper deals with a nonlinear viscoelastic equation having a dissipation term. With the equation some classical and non classical boundary conditions are combined. Based on some a priori bounds, iteration processes and density arguments, we simultaneously solve the nonlinear and the associated linear problems.     

Dynamic Bivariate Mortality Modelling

The dependence structure of the life statuses plays an important role in the valuation of life insurance products involving multiple lives. Although the mortality of individuals is well studied in the literature, their dependence remains a challenging field. In this paper, the main objective is to introduce a new approach for analyzing the mortality dependence between two individuals in a couple. It is intended to describe in a dynamic framework the joint mortality of married couples in terms of marginal mortality rates. The proposed framework is general and aims to capture, by adjusting some parametric form, the desired effect such as the “broken-heart syndrome”. To this end, we use a well-suited multiplicative decomposition, which will serve as a building block for the framework to relate the dependence structure and the marginals, and we make the link with existing practice of affine mortality models. Finally, given that the framework is general, we propose some illustrative examples and show how the underlying model captures the main stylized facts of bivariate mortality dynamics.

     

High‐energy‐resolution diced spherical quartz analyzers for resonant inelastic X‐ray scattering

A novel diced spherical quartz analyzer for use in resonant inelastic X‐ray scattering (RIXS) is introduced, achieving an unprecedented energy resolution of 10.53 meV at the Ir L₃ absorption edge (11.215 keV). In this work the fabrication process and the characterization of the analyzer are presented, and an example of a RIXS spectrum of magnetic excitations in a Sr₃Ir₂O₇ sample is shown.     

Oscillation criteria for higher order nonlinear dynamic equations

In this paper, we will consider the higher‐order functional dynamic equations of the form on an above‐unbounded time scale , where and , . The function is a rd‐continuous function such that . The results extend and improve some known results in the literature on higher order nonlinear dynamic equations.     

Mixed nonlocal problem for a nonlinear singular hyperbolic equation

In this paper, we study a nonlocal mixed problem for a nonlinear hyperbolic equation. Based on some a priori estimates and some density arguments, we prove the well posedness of the associated linear problem. The existence and uniqueness of the weak solution of the nonlinear problem are then established by applying an iterative process based on the obtained results for the linear problem. Oscillation criteria for quasi-linear functional dynamic equations on time scales

This paper is concerned with oscillation of the second-order quasilinear functional dynamic equation

$$(r(t)(x^\Delta (t))^\gamma )^\Delta + p(t)x^\beta (\tau (t)) = 0,$$

on a time scale \(\mathbb{T}\) where γ and β are quotient of odd positive integers, r, p, and τ are positive rd-continuous functions defined on \(\mathbb{T},\tau :\mathbb{T} \to \mathbb{T}\) and \(\mathop {\lim }\limits_{t \to \infty } \tau (t) = \infty \). We establish some new sufficient conditions which ensure that every solution oscillates or converges to zero. Our results improve the oscillation results in the literature when γ = β, and τ(t) ≤ t and when τ(t) > t the results are essentially new. Some examples are considered to illustrate the main results.

     

Surface waves at the interface between tunable LC–MTMs and nonlinear media

The surface wave propagation at the interface between tunable metamaterials (MTMs) and nonlinear media is investigated. Tunable MTMs have a refractive index which can be tuned to negative?Czero?Cpositive values. The nonlinear media are assumed to have a Kerr-like refractive index. The dispersion equation is analytically derived and solved numerically. Results display the different behaviors of the propagating waves as the refractive index is tuned.     

Waveguide electro-optic modulator in fused silica fabricated by femtosecond laser direct writing and thermal poling

An integrated electro-optic waveguide modulator is demonstrated in bulk fused silica. A Mach-Zehnder interferometer waveguide structure is fabricated by direct writing with a femtosecond laser followed by thermal poling. A 20 degrees electro-optic phase shift is achieved at an operating wavelength of 1.55 microm with an applied voltage of 400 V and an interaction length of 25.6 mm, which correspond to an estimated effective electro-optic coefficient of 0.17 pm/V for the TE-polarized mode.
