Rearrangement thermique des α-ceto, α-cyano epoxydes en dioxoles : Etude du mecanisme de la reaction

The thermolysis of α-cyano α-keto epoxides to give dioxoles is a new rearrangement. The reactivity of the epoxides is dependent upon the nature of the substituents on the epoxide ring, and solvent polarity. When the reaction is carried in the presence of benzaldehyde, a 1,3 cycloadduct is obtained. These results are in good agreement with a carbonyl ylide intermediate.     

Structural requirements in chiral diphosphine-rhodium complexes. VIII. Asymmetric hydrogenation of N-acetyldehydroamino acids with rhodium(I) complexes containing chiral carbocyclic analogues of DIOP.

Z--acetamidocinnamic acid was hydrogenated with neutral diphosphine-rhodium(I) complexes containing trans-1,2-bis(diphenylphosphinomethyl) cycloalkanes to give N-acetylphenylalanine: 86 % e.e.-(R) [(1R,2R)-cyclobutane]; 63 % e.e.-(R) [(1R,2R)-cyclopentane]; 35 % e.e.-(S) [(1S,2S)-cyclohexane]; and 82 % e.e.-(R) [(2R,3R)-DIOP]. Similarly, -acetamidoacrylic acid was hydrogenated to give N-acetylalanine: 72 % e.e.-(R) [(1R,2R)-cyclobutane]; 72 % e.e.-(R) [(1R,2R)-cyclopentane]; 40 % e.e.-(S) [(1S,2S)-cyclohexane]; and 73 % e.e.-(R) [(2R,3R)-DIOP].     

Template synthesis in the nickel(II)–thiocarbohydrazide–propanone triple system

The complexing process proceeding in the Ni^II–thiocarbohydrazide (H₂N–H–NC(=S)–NH–NH₂)–propanone triple system in EtOH solution and nickel(II)hexacyanoferrate(II) gelatin-immobilized matrix has been studied. It has been found that in the first case, template synthesis leading, as a minimum, to formation of three coordination compounds of Ni^II with (N,N,S,S)-donor tetradentate ligands having NiL¹, NiL² and NiL³compositions where L¹ is 4,6,6-trimethyl-2,3,7,8-tetraazanonen-3-di(thiohydrazide)-1,9, L² is 4,6,6,12-tetrametyl-1,9-dithio-2,3,7,8,10,11-hexaazatridekadien-3,11-hydrazide-1 and L³ is 2,8,10,10,16-pentamethyl-5,13-dithio-3,4,6,7,11,12,14,15-octaazaheptadekatrien-2,7,15 is observed, whereas in the gelatin-immobilized matrix, a complexing process in the system considered does not occur.     

Analytical applications of infra-red spectroscopy : The behaviour of the oxinates of niobium,tantalum and associated elements

The behaviour of the oxinates of niobium, tantalum and associated metals in the infra-red region was studied and a method developed for the determination of niobium and tantalum. Vanadium caused no interference, but other heavy metals, such as molybdenum, manganese and cobalt, which interfered were removed by preliminary treatment when the method was applied to the determination of niobium and tantalum in steels.     

Chemical Synthesis,Proton NMR. Parameters,Hydrogen- and Calcium-Ion. Complexation of L-γ-Carboxyglutamyl-L-γ-carboxyglutamic Acid and D-γ-Carboxyglutamyl-L-leucine

The purpose of this communication is to describe the preparation and some properties of the first two synthetic peptides containing D - and L -γ-carboxyglutamic acid. Use was made of N-protected γ,γ′-di-t-butyl-γ-carboxyglutamic acids (D , L , and DL ) described earlier [1 a]. Preliminary ¹H-NMR. data (360 MHz) indicate a restricted rotation of the Gla side chain in the free amino acid as well as in the C-terminal Gla of Gla-Gla in H₂O solution at acid pH. The proton dissociation from Gla and Gla-Gla was studied by potentiometric titration and NMR. methods. The pH titration in the presence of Ca²⁺ ions shows that Gla-Gla has a much higher association constant for this cation than Gla. It is almost as great as that of prothrombin (pCa²⁺ = 3.2 vs. 3.5).     

Analytische Trennung und photometrische Bestimmung von Palladium und Platin

Zusammenfassung Zur colorimetrischen Bestimmung von Palladium und Platin werden die beiden Metalle zunächst durch Extraktion mit 2-Chlorpyridin von Verunreinigungen abgetrennt. Sodann wird Pt mit einer schwach sauren Pufferlösung extrahiert und als SnCl₂-PtCl₄-Komplex bei 401 nm photometriert. Pd wird als Jodo-Chlorpyridin-Komplex bei 525 nm photometrisch bestimmt. The mixed-aldehyde synthesis of difunctional tetraarylporphyrins

The synthesis is reported of nine unsymmetrical, meso-substituted porphyrins. Among the compounds prepared are the following 5-(R)-10,15,20-tri-p-tolylporphyrins; R = 2,6-dinitrophenyl, 4-hydroxy-3-ethoxy-phenyl, 4-hydroxy-3-methoxy-5-nitrophenyl, 5-hydroxy-2-nitrophenyl and 4-hydroxy-3-nitrophenyl. Other porphyrins reported include 5-(2-(1-butoxy)phenyl)-15-(2-nitrophenyl)-10-15-di-p-tolylporphyrin and the two 5-(R)-10-15,20-tripropylporphyrins in which R = 2-nitrophenyl and 2-hydroxyphenyl. The disubstituted porphyrins offer a rational route to the synthesis of difunctional “tailed-porphyrins”.     

Optically detected zero-field triplet state magnetic resonance in photosynthetic bacteria

Triplet state transitions of the photosynthetic bacteria Rhodospirillum Rubrum, Rhodopseudomonas Spheroides and Chromatium Vinosum in chemically reduced preparations have been observed by zero-field optical detection of magnetic resonance at 2 K. For each bacterial preparation two sharp, structureless, zero-field EPR transitions were observed as microwave-induced decreases in the fluorescence intensity of the frozen cellular preparations. The depopulating rate constants for the spin sublevels of the triplet states observed in R Rubrum and R Spheroides were also measured. The similarities of the triplet state frequencies, spectral features and intersystem crossing rates suggest a common structure for the reaction centers in the photosynthetic bacteria.     

Arylation with aryllead triacetates produced in situ by mercury-lead exchange

Reaction of a diarylmercury with lead tetraacetate to give an aryllead triacetate has been found to be a rapid reaction. The in situ generation of aryllead triacetates is thus an attractive alternative to the use of the purified reagents in the various electrophilic arylation reactions of these compounds.     

Equilibria in complexes of N-heterocyclic molecules,part XII. The reaction of hydroxide and alkoxide Ions with platinum(II) complexes of 5-nitro-1,10-phenanthroline and 2,2′-bipyridyl

Summary Bis-(5-nitro-1,10-phenanthroline)platinum(II) dichloride and diperchlorate have been prepared. The reaction between the parent cation and hydroxide ion has been studied using 1 FI n.m.r. spectroscopy and found to involve attack at the ligand. The bis-(2,2-bipyridyl)platinum(II) ion has been shown to be highly reactive towards methoxide ion. The dissociation of a 2,2-bipyridyl ligand is preceded by attack at the ligand.Part XI: R. D.
