The thermomechanical properties of anion exchange polymers based on polysulfone (PSU) quaternized with trimethylamine (TMA) or 1,4‐diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO) and containing hydroxide or chloride anions by tensile stress–strain tests and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) have been determined. The reported mechanical properties included the Young's modulus, tensile strength, and elongation at break from tensile tests and the storage and loss modulus and glass transition temperature from DMA. The anion exchange membranes behaved as stiff polymers with Young's modulus in the order of 1 GPa, relatively with high strength (about 30 MPa) and low elongation at break (around 10%) was observed. Tensile tests were also made with membranes exchanged with hydrogen‐carbonate and carbonate anions to control the absence of important carbonation of the OH form. The glass transition temperatures were of the order of 150 °C (PSU‐TMA) or 200 °C (PSU‐DABCO) for the hydroxide form, confirmed by differential scanning calorimetry; they increase further by about 50 K, when hydroxide ions are replaced by chloride. This result and the increase of the storage modulus could be interpreted by the higher hydration of hydroxide ions and the plasticizing effect of water, which reduced the Van der Waals interactions between the macromolecular chains. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. For each compact smooth manifold containing at least two points we prove the existence of a compact nonsingular algebraic set and a smooth map such that, for every rational diffeomorphism and for every diffeomorphism where and are compact nonsingular algebraic sets, we may fix a neighborhood of in which does not contain any regular rational map. Furthermore is not homotopic to any regular rational map. Bearing in mind the case in which is a compact nonsingular algebraic set with totally algebraic homology, the previous result establishes a clear distinction between the property of a smooth map to represent an algebraic unoriented bordism class and the property of to be homotopic to a regular rational map. Furthermore we have: every compact Nash submanifold of containing at least two points has not any tubular neighborhood with rational retraction.

This paper reports the preparation and characterization of the homologous series of layered zirconium fluoride n-alkylamino-N,N-bis methylphosphonates, of general formula ZrF(O(3)PCH(2))(2)NHC(n)H(2n+1) (n = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10), in which the two phosphonic groups of each diphosphonate building block participate in the assembly of a single lamella, because they are joined to zirconium atoms belonging to the same layer. The crystal structure of one of the series of these zirconium diphosphonates, ZrF(O(3)PCH(2))(2)NHC(5)H(11), has been solved "ab initio" by X-ray powder diffraction data. The structure is monoclinic, space group P2(1)/c. The zwitterionic character of the diphosphonate moiety is a distinctive feature which acts as a structure-orienting factor, generating a layer framework which is different from the other structures known for zirconium phosphates and phosphonates. This compound undergoes a phase transition at 117 degrees C which involves a rearrangement of the interlayer alkyl chains. The structure of the high-temperature phase has been refined by the Rietveld method. Because only one organic residue is associated with two phosphonate tetrahedra, a poorly hindered interlayer region is formed, and alkyl chains bonded to adjacent layers are interdigitated. Preliminary experiments have shown that these compounds are able to intercalate organic molecules, such as n-alkanols, from very dilute water solutions. 相似文献

The mechanism of NO interaction with nanosized Ru(Pd,Pt)-doped SnO(2) was studied by electron paramagnetic resonance, M?ssbauer, and electric resistance measurements. Three steps were proposed for the reaction between the semiconductor oxide and the gaseous component: (i) the formation of bielectronic oxygen vacancies (V(o)) in SnO(2); (ii) their single-ionization (V(o)(*)) with injection of electrons into the SnO(2) conduction band; (iii) the subsequent transfer of electrons from V(o)(*) to [Ru(Pd,Pt)](4+). The last process induces the formation of further oxygen vacancies which reduce the transition metal centers to lower oxidation states; the redox processes is enhanced and the electrical resistance in transition metal-doped SnO(2) is stronger modified with respect to the undoped material. 相似文献

Heptapeptides having dioctadecyl, N-terminal hydrocarbon chains insert in phospholipid bilayer membranes and form pores through which at least chloride ions pass. Although amphiphilic, these compounds do not typically form vesicles themselves. They insert in the bilayers of phospholipid vesicles and mediate the release of carboxyfluorescein. Hill analysis indicates that at least two molecules of the amphiphile are involved in pore formation. In CD2Cl2, dimer formation is detected by NMR chemical shift changes. The anion release activity of individual anion transporters is increased by linking them covalently at the C-terminus or, even more, by linking them at the N-terminus. Evidence is presented that either linked molecule releases chloride from liposomes more effectively and rapidly than the individual transporter molecule at a comparable concentration. 相似文献

We introduce a new protocol for a lossy data compression algorithm which is based on constraint satisfaction gates. We show that the theoretical capacity of algorithms built from standard parity-check gates converges exponentially fast to the Shannon's bound when the number of variables seen by each gate increases. We then generalize this approach by introducing random gates. They have theoretical performances nearly as good as parity checks, but they offer the great advantage that the encoding can be done in linear time using the survey inspired decimation algorithm, a powerful algorithm for constraint satisfaction problems derived from statistical physics. 相似文献

Our purpose was to evaluate the role of MRI in distinguishing fibrous from active residual masses in treated Hodgkin's disease. Forty patients with residual mediastinal mass larger than 1.5 cm underwent MRI 1, 3, 6, and 12 months after the end of cycles of prescribed chemotherapy or combined chemoradiotherapy. The MRI examinations were performed on a 0.5 and a 1.5 T systems, using T(1) before and after gadolinium injection and T(2)-weighted sequences. Each time the residual mass was evaluated in size and signal intensity on spin echo (SE) T(2)-weighted images and on SE T(1)-weighted images after contrast medium. Low signal intensity and low contrast enhancement were considered signs of inactive residues; homogeneous high signal intensity and high contrast enhancement were indicative of active residual disease; heterogeneous signal intensity and heterogeneous contrast enhancement were indicative of partial remission or necrotic/inflammatory phenomena. MR showed high diagnostic accuracy in the evaluation of Hodgkin's mediastinal residues after treatment, if performed at least 6 months after the end of therapy, reaching the highest sensitivity and specificity values at 12 month follow-up (considering the three parameters-T(2) signal intensity, contrast-enhancement, and size-all together). If we consider the single parameters individually, we can observe that size variation remains the more valuable parameter to predict or to exclude a relapse. MR diagnostic accuracy at the 6-month follow-up was lower due to the higher incidence of inhomogeneous pattern. The accuracy of MR performed at 1 and at 3 months after the end of therapy was not satisfying. This represents a clinical problem because the most important clinical decisions have to be taken just in this early post-treatment phase. 相似文献

A study on the regeneration of alpha-tocopherol (vitamin E) by phenolic co-antioxidants in homogeneous hydrocarbon solution is reported. The behavior of some relevant phenols such as BHA, BHT, and trans-resveratrol appears to be nicely predicted by a model based on the knowledge of kinetic and thermochemical data concerning the various reactants. Despite its good reputation as an antioxidant, trans-resveratrol was found only moderately effective (k(inh) = 2.0 x 10(5) M(-1) s(-1) in chlorobenzene at 303 K) and unable to recycle vitamin E. 相似文献

A kinetic and thermodynamic investigation on the antioxidant activity of 2,2'-methylenebis(6-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol) (2), 2,2'-ethylidenebis(4,6-di-tert-butylphenol) (3), and 4,4'-methylenebis(2,6-di-tert-butylphenol) (4) are reported. EPR studies of the equilibration between 3 or 4 and a reference phenol, and the corresponding phenoxyl radicals, allowed us to determine the O-H bond dissociation enthalpy (BDE) of the O-H bond as 81.2 and 81.1 kcal/mol in 3 and 4, respectively. Despite this similarity, the absolute rate constants for the reaction with peroxyl radicals, determined by autoxidation studies under controlled conditions, indicate that the o-bisphenols 2 and 3 behave as excellent antioxidants while the p-bisphenol 4 is less effective by a factor of 64 and 22, respectively. FT-IR spectroscopy and product studies suggest that the very good antioxidant activity of the o-bisphenols largely arises from both the reduced steric crowding about the hydroxyl group and the stabilization of the aroxyl radical due to the formation of an intramolecular hydrogen bond between the residual OH and the oxygen radical center. 相似文献
