A mathematical framework for the fundamental objects of continuum mechanics is presented. In the geometric setting of general differentiable manifolds, velocity fields over bodies, modeled as sections of a vector bundle W, are generalized using notions of homological integration theory such as flat chains and cochains. The class of bodies includes fractal sets whose irregular boundaries may have infinite measures. Stresses, initially modeled as smooth differential forms valued in the dual of the jet bundle of W, are generalized to cochains represented by L ??-sections whose weak divergences are also L ??. The divergence of a stress field, defined in an earlier work, is generalized to apply to stress cochains. The co-divergence of a velocity field is a weak form of the jet extension mapping and it is the counterpart of the boundary operator for real valued flat chains. 相似文献

Internal conversion is an inherently quantum mechanical process. To date, "on the fly" computation of internal conversion rates is limited to harmonic approximations, which would seem to be especially unsuitable, given that the typical transition to the ground electronic state occurs at energies which are far from the harmonic limit. It is thus of interest to study the applicability of the semiclassial initial value representation (SCIVR) approach which is in principle amenable to on the fly studies even with "many" degrees of freedom. In this paper we study the applicability of the Herman-Kluk (HK) SCIVR to a model system with two coupled and anharmonic degrees of freedom. We find that (a) the HK SCIVR is a good approximation to the exact quantum dynamics; (b) computation of the first order correction to the HK-SCIVR approximation corroborates the accuracy; (c) by studying a large parameter range, we find that the harmonic approximation is mostly unsatisfactory; and (d) for the specific model used, the coupling between the modes was found to be relatively unimportant. These results imply that the HK-SCIVR methodology is a good candidate for on the fly studies of internal conversion processes of "large" molecules. 相似文献

We present a new generic sequential importance sampling algorithm, called stochastic enumeration (SE) for counting #P-complete problems, such as the number of satisfiability assignments and the number of perfect matchings (permanent). We show that SE presents a natural generalization of the classic one-step-look-ahead algorithm in the sense that it: Runs in parallel multiple trajectories instead of a single one; Employs a polynomial time decision making oracle, which can be viewed as an n-step-look-ahead algorithm, where n is the size of the problem. We present the experimental observation of 1D and 2D self-accelerating nonlinear beams in quadratic media, which are also the first nonlinear self-accelerating beams in any symmetric nonlinearity. Notably, we show that the intensity peaks of the first and second harmonics are asynchronous with respect to one another, but the coupled harmonics exhibit joint acceleration within the nonlinear medium. We present the nondiffracting spatially accelerating solutions of the Maxwell equations. Such beams accelerate in a circular trajectory, thus generalizing the concept of Airy beams to the full domain of the wave equation. For both TE and TM polarizations, the beams exhibit shape-preserving bending which can have subwavelength features, and the Poynting vector of the main lobe displays a turn of more than 90°. We show that these accelerating beams are self-healing, analyze their properties, and find the new class of accelerating breathers: self-bending beams of periodically oscillating shapes. Finally, we emphasize that in their scalar form, these beams are the exact solutions for nondispersive accelerating wave packets of the most common wave equation describing time-harmonic waves. As such, this work has profound implications to many linear wave systems in nature, ranging from acoustic and elastic waves to surface waves in fluids and membranes. 相似文献
