We exploit nonlinearity in NbN superconducting stripline resonators, which originates from local thermal instability, for studying stochastic resonance. As the resonators are driven into instability, small amplitude modulation (AM) signals are amplified with the aid of injected white noise. Simulation results based on the equations of motion for the system yield a good agreement with the experimental data both in the frequency and time domains.  相似文献

We demonstrate, theoretically and experimentally, nonbroadening optical beams propagating along any arbitrarily chosen convex trajectory in space. We present a general method to construct such beams, and demonstrate it by generating beams following polynomial and exponential trajectories. We find that all such beams, accelerating along any convex trajectory, display the same universal intensity cross section, irrespective of their acceleration. The universal features of these beams are explored using catastrophe theory.  相似文献

A metric independent geometric framework for some fundamental objects of continuum mechanics is presented. In the geometric setting of general differentiable manifolds, balance principles for extensive properties are formulated and Cauchy's theorem for fluxes is proved. Fluxes in an n‐dimensional space are represented as differential (n ? 1)‐forms. In an analogous formulation of stress theory, a distinction is made between the traction stress, enabling the evaluation of the traction on the boundaries of the various regions, and the variational stress, which acts on the derivative of a virtual velocity field to produce the virtual power density. The relation between the two stress fields is examined as well as the resulting differential balance law. As an application, metric‐invariant aspects of electromagnetic theory are presented within the framework of the foregoing flux and stress theory. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

The g(44) grating is an electroholographic transmission grating in which the applied field is perpendicular to both the grating vector and the wave vector of the incident beam. It is argued that in this configuration the incident beam traverses through a periodically rotating index ellipsoid. It is shown that in the g(44) configuration the Bragg condition is fulfilled for a specific value of the applied field and for a diffracting beam polarization that is perpendicular to that of the incident beam. Consequently, the g(44) grating can be used as an electrically controlled filter. Tunability of 7 nm is demonstrated in a 2mm thick grating.  相似文献

We show that two Bloch modes launched into a nonlinear photonic lattice evolve into a comb or a supercontinuum of spatial frequencies, exhibiting a sensitive dependence on the difference between the quasi-momenta of the two initially excited modes. This phenomenon results from four-wave mixing combined with exchanges of momentum between the optical field and the lattice.  相似文献
