Diastereoselective synthesis of 2-phenylselenenyl-1,3-anti-diols and 2-phenylselenenyl-1,3-anti-azido-alcohols via hydroxy and azido-selenenylation reactions

A method to synthesize 2-phenylselenenyl-1,3-anti-diols and 2-phenyl- selenenyl-1,3-anti-azidoalcohols via hydroxy- or azido-selenenylation of trans-allylic alcohols is reported. Moreover, the first example of hydroxyl-selenenylation of an allylic azide is presented. Yields ranging from moderate to good and diastereomeric ratios up to 95:5 are achieved.     

Molecular ordering and 2D conductivity in ultrathin poly(3-hexylthiophene)/gold nanoparticle composite films

This paper reports the first comparison of the structure and electrical conductivity properties of spin cast (SC) and Langmuir-Schaeffer (LS) films of regioregular poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT). In addition, the effect of incorporating highly monodisperse Au nanoparticles (NPs), with a core diameter of approximately 5 nm, into SC and LS P3HT films is described. A detailed picture of molecular organization in the films has been obtained using ultraviolet-visible absorption spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray reflectivity. Film morphology was correlated with pseudo-two-dimensional conductivity measured using scanning electrochemical microscopy, with P3HT in the semiconducting regime. It was found that SC films, which were slightly thicker than those formed with the LS technique, exhibited greater organization. This resulted in an order of magnitude higher lateral conductivity for the SC films. Inclusion of Au NPs (50 wt %) into both SC and LS films resulted in the formation of uniform and relatively flat (rms roughness approximately 1 nm) composite films. Surprisingly, the addition of NPs did not disrupt the characteristic crystal structure found for the native P3HT films. The effect of Au NPs on film lateral conductivity was found to be determined by the distribution of Au NPs within the polymer, which varied significantly between SC and LS films. Whereas Au NPs aggregated into hexagonally packed clusters in SC films, NPs in LS films were predominantly uniformly distributed between the lamella bilayer. It was found that, while the inclusion of Au NPs caused the lateral conductivity to decrease in SC films, in LS films, the lateral conductivity increased by a factor of 2.     

Supramolecular H-bonded assemblies of redox-active metallodendrimers and positive and unusual dendritic effects on the recognition of H2PO4-

The DSM polyamine dendrimers dend-DAB-(NH2)x of generations 1 (x = 4) to 4 (x = 32) form H-bonded dendritic assemblies with the phenol AB3 units p-HOC6H4C(CH2CHCH2)3 and p-HOC6H4C{(CH2)3SiCH2NHCOFc}3 (Fc = ferrocenyl), as shown by the shifts of the NH2 and OH signals giving a concentration-dependent common signal between 2.4 and 4.1 ppm in CDCl3. The supramolecular dendrimers efficiently recognize H2PO4- anions with positive and unusual dendritic effects upon electrochemical titration involving half-stoichiometry for G1, a sudden cyclovoltammetry wave change at the equivalent point, and a dramatic intensity decrease of the new wave.     

Synthesis of Aristotelia-Type Alkaloids. Part XIII. Total syntheses of (+)-makonine, (+)-aristotelinone,and (+)-11,12-didehydroaristoteline

The oxidative transformation of synthetic (+)-aristoteline ((+)- 6 ) into other metabolites which had been isolated from Aristotelia species was investigated. Thus, treatment of (+)- 6 with I₂ as the single oxidant furnished the naturally occurring indole alkaloids (+)-makonine ((+)- 9 ),(+)-aristotelinone ((+)- 11 ), or (+)-11, 12-didehydroaristoteline ((+)- 7 ) in good yields, the selectivity of the oxidation process depending on the chosen reaction conditions.     

Mononuclear Pt(II) and Pd(II) 1,4-dithiolato complexes. Crystal structures of [Pt((−) DIOS) (PPh3)2] and [Pd(S(CH2) 4S)(Ph2P(CH2) 3PPh2)]. Application in styrene hydroformylation

Addition of 1,4-dithiols to dichloromethane solutions of [PtCl₂(P-P)] (P-P = (PPh₃)₂, Ph₂P(CH₂)₃PPh₂, Phd₂P(CH₂)₄PPh₂; 1,4-dithiols = HS(CH₂)₄SH, (−)DIOSH₂ (2,3-O-isopropylidene-1,4-dithiol-l-threitol), BINASH₂ (1,1′-dinaphthalene-2,2′-dithiol)) in the presence of NEt₃ yielded the mononuclear complexes [Pt(1,4-dithiolato)(P-P)]. Related palladium(II) complexes [Pd(dithiolato)(P-P)] (P-P=Ph₂P(CH₂)₃PPh₂, Ph₂P(CH₂)₄PPh₂; dithiolato = ⁻S(CH₂)₄S⁻, (−)-DIOS) were prepared by the same method. The structure of [Pt((−)DIOS)(PPh₃)₂] and [Pd(S(CH₂)₄S)(Ph₂P(CH₂)₃PPh₂)] complexes was determined by X-ray diffraction methods. Pt—dithiolato—SnC1₂ systems are active in the hydroformylation of styrene. At 100 atm and 125°C [Pt(dithiolate)(P-P)]/SnCl₂ (Pt:Sn = 20) systems provided aldehyde conversion up to 80%.     

Studies on decarboxylation reactions. Part 6 . Kinetic study of decarboxylation of 5-amino-1,3,4-oxadiazole-2-carboxylic acid and its N-phenyl derivatives at high hydrochloric acid concentrations

The dissociation constants (K₁) of both acids 4a-c and esters 5a-c and the rate constants of the decarboxylation reaction of acids 4a-c have been measured at various high concentrations of hydrochloric acid (0.5-8.0 M range). The results obtained have enabled us to suggest the probable structure of the zwitterion which undergoes decarboxylation.     

Organocatalytic ring expansion of beta-lactams to gamma-lactams through a novel N1-C4 bond cleavage. direct synthesis of enantiopure succinimide derivatives

Tetrabutylammonium cyanide (20 mol %) catalyzes ring expansion of 4-(arylimino)methylazetidin-2-ones 2 to 5-aryliminopyrrolidin-2-ones 3 through a novel N1-C4 bond cleavage of the beta-lactam nucleus. New, efficient one-pot protocols to enantiopure succinimide derivatives 3 and 4 from beta-lactam aldehydes 1 have also been developed. [reaction: see text]
