Growth and characterization of mercury cinnamate single crystal

Single crystals of mercury cinnamate were grown by slow evaporation of methanol solution at room temperature. The effect of mercury on the electronic structure of cinnamic acid was studied. The grown mercury cinnamate single crystals were characterized by UV, FTIR and TG-DTA. TG curve of mercury cinnamate exhibits higher thermal stability compared with cinnamic acid which was also confirmed by DTA curve. The spectroscopic studies give evidences of the distribution of the electronic charge in molecule, the delocalisation of π electrons and the reactivity of metal complexes. The Second harmonic generation efficiency is more pronounced in the presence of mercury dopant in the growth medium.     

Studies on the structural and electrical properties of spray deposited SnO2:Sb thin films as a function of substrate temperature

Thin films of antimony doped tin oxide (SnO₂:Sb) were prepared by spray pyrolysis technique using SnCl₂ as precursor with the various antimony doping levels ranging from 1 to 4 wt%. The XRD analysis showed that the undoped SnO₂ films grow in (211) preferred orientation whereas the Sb doped films grow in (200) plane. Scanning electron microscopy studies indicated that the surface of the films prepared with lower doping level (1 wt%) consists of larger grains whereas those prepared with higher doping levels (>1 wt%) consist of smaller grains. The sheet resistance has been found to be reduced considerably (2.17 Ω/□) for Sb doped films. To the best of our knowledge this is the lowest sheet resistance obtained for Sb doped SnO₂ thin films.     

Bioactive Chemical Constituents of Cladiella Species

From the methanolic extract of Cladiella sp., collected from the Andaman Island, India, a new sesquiterpene, cladidiol ( 2 ), and three known diterpenes, cladiellaperoxide ( 3 ), (6E)‐2α,9α‐epoxyeunicella‐6,11(12)‐dien‐3β‐ol ( 4 ), and polyanthellin A ( 5 ) were isolated. The structures of these compounds were established by extensive spectroscopic studies. Compound 2 exhibited modest acetylcholinesterase‐inhibition activity, and compounds 3 – 5 showed antibacterial activities against Streptococcus pyogenes, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.     

On splittable colorings of graphs and hypergraphs

The notion of a split coloring of a complete graph was introduced by Erd?s and Gyárfás [ 7 ] as a generalization of split graphs. In this work, we offer an alternate interpretation by comparing such a coloring to the classical Ramsey coloring problem via a two‐round game played against an adversary. We show that the techniques used and bounds obtained on the extremal (r,m)‐split coloring problem of [ 7 ] are closer in nature to the Turán theory of graphs rather than Ramsey theory. We extend the notion of these colorings to hypergraphs and provide bounds and some exact results. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Graph Theory 40: 226–237, 2002     

Calixarenes. II. The isolation and characterization of the calix[4]arene and the bishomooxacalix[4]arene from A p-t-butylphenol-formaldehyde condensation product

The base-catalyzed condensation of p-tbutylphenol and formaldehyde, which yields a cyclic octamer (I, n=8) as the major product, has been shown to also yield a cyclic tetramer (I, n=4) and a bischomooxa cyclic tetramer (II).     

Ab initio calculation of vibrational frequencies of GexSe1−x glass

We have used the density functional theory to make the models of Ge_xSe_1?x glass for which the energy is a minimum. The clusters, Ge₂Se₂, Ge₂Se₃, Ge₃Se, Ge₃Se₂, Ge₄Se, GeSe₃, GeSe₄, chain mode zig-zag Ge₄Se₃, corner sharing GeSe₄, and edge sharing Ge₂Se₆, have been made successfully and their vibrational spectra have been calculated from the first principles. We are able to optimize the bond distances as well as the bond angles. The calculated values of the frequencies of vibrations of the various clusters have been compared with those obtained from the experimental Raman spectra of actual glasses, Ge_xSe_1?x(0 < x < 0.3). The local concentration, x within 0.25 nm is nonuniform in the amorphous material. When the same cluster occurs in two stable configurations, low frequency vibrations of frequency, ν < 100 cm^?1, are found. The corner sharing GeSe₄ has low frequency modes at 54 cm^?1 and 93 cm^?1 whereas these modes disappear in the pyramidal configuration. The low frequency modes are therefore associated with the breaking of C₄ symmetry of the pyramidal configuration. The computed vibrational frequencies of clusters Ge₃, Ge₄Se₃, Ge₂Se₃, GeSe₃ and Ge₃Se₂ are actually present in the Raman spectra of the glass, Ge_xSe_1?x(0 < x < 0.3).

Growth, structural, optical and thermal properties of gamma-glycine crystal

Single crystals of gamma-glycine were grown from a mixture of glycine, water and lithium bromide. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed the growth of gamma-glycine phase. Presence of various functional groups of gamma-glycine was identified by FTIR spectrum. Optical absorbance spectrum recorded in the wavelength range of UV-vis-NIR revealed that this crystal has good optical transparency in the range 250-1500 nm. Vickers microhardness values were estimated on the prominent (100) face. Thermogravimetric and differential scanning calorimetric analyses were carried out to study the thermal properties of gamma-glycine. Second harmonic generation efficiency of the crystal measured by Kurtz's powder method using Nd:YAG laser is about three times that of KDP.
