In this work, we provide new experimental evidence for chain length-dependent self-aggregation in room temperature ionic liquids (RTILs) using fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS). In studying a homologous series of N-alkyl-N-methylpyrrolidinium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl) imide, [C(n)MPy][Tf(2)N] RTILs of varying alkyl chain length (n = 3, 4, 6, 8, and 10), biphasic rhodamine 6G solute diffusion dynamics were observed; both the fast and slow diffusion coefficients decreased with increasing alkyl chain length, with the relative contribution from slower diffusion increasing for longer-chain [C(n)MPy][Tf(2)N]. We propose that the biphasic diffusion dynamics originate from self-aggregation of the nonpolar alkyl chains in the cationic [C(n)MPy](+). 相似文献

Ab initio calculations are reported for three of four possible conformers of 1,3-dichloropropane. The fourth conformer, with Cs symmetry, has a predicted enthalpy difference of more than 1500 cm(-1) from the most stable conformer from each calculation regardless of the basis set used, so there is little chance of observing it. Thus, there is no evidence in the infrared or Raman spectrum of the presence of a fourth conformer. The order of stability given by the ab initio calculations is C2(GG)>C1(AG)>C2v(AA)>Cs(GG'), where A indicates the anti form for one of the CH2Cl groups and G indicates the gauche conformation for the other CH2Cl group relative to the plane of the carbon atoms. Almost every band observed can be confidently assigned to one or another of the conformers. Many observed bands proved to be of a composite nature, with several nearly coincident vibrations of different conformers contributing to the band contour. Nonetheless, a complete assignment of fundamentals is possible for the most stable C2 conformer, and 5 of the fundamentals of the C2v conformer and 13 those of the C1 conformer can be confidently assigned. 相似文献

Summary. The evaluation of mutual solubility data for systems water with n-alkanes, isoalkanes, and cycloalkanes along the three phase line is reported and a formula for the prediction of solubility
of alkanes in water is developed. Then a cubic equation of state with an added term, which accounts for hydrogen bonding is
used for correlation of liquid–liquid equilibrium data and for prediction of solubility of water in hydrocarbons using alkane
in water solubility data. Comparison of the predicted and experimental solubilities is performed using all accessible experimental
data. With this approach it is possible to predict the solubilities of water in alkanes with good accuracy over the temperature
range up to about 20 K below critical temperature. Solubility of alkanes in water can also be calculated using experimental
data for solubility of water in alkanes but results of these calculations are more sensitive to experimental errors of the
data.

A problem has arisen in using chiral shift reagents (CSR) and chiral solvating agents (CSA) to determine meso and racemic forms of diastereoisomers in which the stereogenic centers of the molecules are separated by achiral spacers. It is found that NMR signals of both meso and racemic forms of diastereoisomers may exhibit doubling on addition of CSR/CSA, which means that unequivocal assignments cannot be made without characterizing the effects for separate meso and racemic forms; this is particularly important for additions of CSR/CSA at relatively low concentrations, which always result in the splitting of some NMR signals of diastereoisomers. The phenomenon is demonstrated in the (31)P NMR spectra of meso and racemic forms of three spermine-bridged gem-disubstituted cyclotriphosphazatrienes, 1a-c, and compared with analogous achiral molecules, the per-substituted spermine-bridged cyclotriphosphazatrienes 2a-d. As expected, only one set of (31)P NMR signals was observed for the achiral compounds 2a-d, even on addition of CSA. Two sets of (31)P NMR ABX multiplets corresponding to meso and racemic diastereoisomers were observed for compounds 1a-c; on addition of CSA, the signals of at least one of the multiplets for each compound separated into more than the expected groups of three lines with an intensity distribution of 2:1:1. To understand this phenomenon, the meso and racemic forms of 1a and 1b and the meso form of 1c have been separated and characterized by X-ray crystallography. On addition of CSA to the racemic forms of 1a and 1b, the (31)P NMR spectrum shows the expected doubling of signals, but, unexpectedly, the same is observed for each of the meso forms of 1a-c. Analogous results using both CSA and CSR have been obtained for the meso and racemic forms of the diastereoisomeric piperazine-bridged macrocyclic-phosphazene compound, 3, whereas no effect was observed for the two meso forms of the doubly bridged macrocyclic-phosphazene compound 4. The phenomenon of doubling of the (31)P NMR signals of the meso form of singly bridged cyclotriphosphazatrienes, 1a-c and 3, is explained by consideration of the equilibrium in solution of independent complexation of a chiral ligand with molecules that have two chiral cyclophosphazene moieties separated by an achiral spacer group. The results show that the stereogenicity of such diastereoisomeric molecules in solution cannot be characterized unequivocally by NMR measurements on addition of either CSR or CSA. 相似文献

Beta-endorphin was used as a model peptide to study the effect of solvent and electrospray mass spectrometer parameters in the optimisation of an assay method for multiply charged compounds using liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS). Unlike with singly charged compounds, the charge state distribution has a significant impact in the method development of multiply charged compounds such as peptides. Using a 50% acetonitrile/water solvent mixture, we found that the ion spray voltage had no influence on the charge state distribution. However, increasing declustering potential led to deprotonation of the higher charge states of the peptide thus causing a shift to lower charge states. The mechanism leading to the deprotonation was examined. It was concluded that the deprotonation is due to endoergic proton transfer from the peptide to solvent molecules clustered to the peptide that occurs in the declustering region. The extent of deprotonation increases with increasing proton affinity of the molecules of the non-aqueous solvent component used. Thus, if desired, deprotonation can be avoided by selecting a low proton affinity solvent such as methanol. The focusing potential was also found to have a great influence on the charge state distribution observed. The results of this study enabled us to select the optimum ion to be used in single ion/reaction monitoring mode. They also provided the most favourable parameter values to be used in the method to obtain the best sensitivity for the ion of choice. The results demonstrate the importance of considering the charge state distribution in the optimisation of electrospray LC/MS methods for multiply charged compounds. 相似文献

The essential oils from leaves, twigs and stems of large trees and shrub-like trees of Thuja sutchuenensis were extracted by hydrodistillation and supercritical fluid extraction, and analyzed by GC and GC-MS. The essential oil composition differed significantly among the three organs, as well as between large trees and shrub-like trees. Furthermore, consistent with the eastern Asia-North American disjunct distribution of the genus, many differences in the essential oil composition between T. sutchuenensis and other Thuja species were apparent. The essential oils exhibited a certain degree of antifungal activity against six strains of human pathogenic fungi. 相似文献
