Ru(II) complexes imparting N2O2 donor bis chelating ligand N,N-bis(salicylidine)-hydrazine in unusual coordination mode

The synthesis and characterization of binuclear ruthenium complexes [{(η⁶-C₆H₆)Ru}₂(μ-bsh)₂] (1), [{(η⁶-C₁₀H₁₄)Ru}₂(μ-bsh)₂] (2), [{(η⁶-C₆Me₆)Ru}₂(μ-bsh)₂] (3), and rhodium complex [{(η⁵-C₅Me₅)RhCl}₂(μ-bsh)] (4) (bsh=N,N^′-bis(salicylidine)-hydrazine dianion) are reported. The complexes have been fully characterized by analytical and spectral techniques and unusual coordination mode of the ligand H₂bsh has been confirmed by single crystal X-ray analysis of the complex 2. Structural data revealed extensive inter- and intra-molecular C-H?O and C-H?π interactions and involvement of methyl and isopropyl hydrogen from the p-cymene in hydrogen bonding.     

Efficient and selective enzymatic acylation reaction: separation of furanosyl and pyranosyl nucleosides

Candida antarctica lipase-B (CAL-B) immobilized on lewatite selectively acylated the primary hydroxyl group of the furanosyl nucleoside in a mixture of 1-(alpha-D-arabinofuranosyl)thymine and 1-(alpha-D-arabinopyranosyl)thymine. This selective biocatalytic acylation of furanosyl nucleoside has enabled us an easy separation of arabinofuranosyl thymine from an inseparable mixture with arabinopyranosyl thymine. The primary hydroxyl selective acylation methodology of arabinonucleoside has also been successfully used for the separation of 1-(beta-D-xylofuranosyl)thymine and 1-(beta-D-xylopyranosyl)thymine from a mixture of the two, which demonstrate the generality of the enzymatic methodology for separation of furanosyl and pyranosyl nucleosides.     

Vibrational spectra of 2 (3H) benzofuranone studied by Raman,IR spectroscopy and AM1 semiempirical molecular orbital calculations

Raman spectra of 2 (3H) benzofuranone have been recorded in the region 400-3200 cm(-1) and the IR spectra have been recorded in the region 200-4000 cm(-1). Vibrational frequencies for the fundamental modes of this bicyclic heteroatomic molecule have also been calculated using Austin method 1 (AM1) semiempirical molecular orbital method. Vibrational assignments have been made for the fundamental modes and the observed combination and overtone bands are also assigned. A splitting in the carbonyl group (C=O stretching) frequency observed at 1640-1660 cm(-1) in both Raman and IR spectra, is explained as Fermi-resonance. Net atomic charges for each atom of this molecule along with its heat of formation were also calculated. It is evident from the calculations that the 2 (3H) benzofuranone is more stable than the 3 (2H) benzofuranone in contrast to earlier estimates.     

Synthesis of some newer 5-(5-aryl-2H-tetrazol-2-ylmethyl)-4-substituted-s-triazole-3-thiols as possible antiinflammatory agents

Several 1-(5-aryl-2H-tetrazol-2-ylacetyl)-4-substituted thiosemicarbazides and 5-(5-aryl-2H-tetrazol-2-yl-methyl)-4-substituted-s-triazole-3-thiols were synthesized as possible antiinflammatory agents. These compounds were characterized by their elemental, infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance analysis.     

Ambipolar hexa-peri-hexabenzocoronene-fullerene hybrid materials

A new class of self-assembling hexa-peri-hexbenzocoronene (HBC)-fullerene hybrid materials has been synthesized and characterized. Photoluminescence experiments indicate that energy transfer processes can be tuned in these donor-acceptor systems by varying the length and nature of the linker group. In preliminary device testing, ambipolar charge transport behavior is observed in organic field effect transistors, while single active component organic photovoltaic devices consisting of these materials achieved a maximum external quantum efficiency of 30%.     

Viscoelastic characterization of selected foods over an extended frequency range

Three disparate food systems (gummy candy, Mozzarella cheese, and cooked ham) were characterized for their viscoelastic behavior under isothermal conditions over an extended frequency range of 10⁻³ to 10⁴ Hz using broadband viscoelastic spectroscopy (BVS). The materials were tested for any stress-induced fluid flow. However, no evidence of fluid flow was found under the tested frequency range. Validity of time–temperature superposition for the selected materials was also tested and compared with data from BVS.     

Synthesis,Structural Investigations,and In Vitro/In Silico Bioactivities of Flavonoid Substituted Biguanide: A Novel Schiff Base and Its Diorganotin (IV) Complexes

Quercetin is one of the most powerful bioactive dietary flavonoids. The in vivo biological study of quercetin is extremely difficult due to its very low solubility. However, diorganotin complexes of quercetin are more useful when contrasted with quercetin due to increased solubility. In the present study, quercetin, substituted biguanide synthesized in the form of Schiff base and its di-alkyl/aryl tin (IV) complexes were obtained by condensing Schiff base with respective di-alkyl/aryl tin (IV) dichloride. Advanced analytical techniques were used for structural elucidation. The results of biological screening against Gram-positive/Gram-negative bacteria and fungi showed that these diorganotin (IV) derivatives act as potent antimicrobial agents. The in silico investigation with dihydropteroate (DHPS) disclosed a large ligand–receptor interaction and revealed a strong relationship between the natural exercises and computational molecular docking results.     

Effect of Cationic Micelle on the Kinetics of Oxidation of Citric Acid by N-Bromophthalimide in Acidic Medium

Kinetics of the oxidation of citric acid (CA) by N-bromophthalimide (NBP) has been studied in the presence of cationic surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) at 35°C. The CMC value is lower than those given in the literature for aqueous solutions of CTAB without added electrolyte. The reaction is strongly catalyzed by cationic micelle, CTAB with a progressive increase in CTAB concentration the reaction rate increased, at higher concentration constancy in the rate constant was observed. The reaction follows first and fractional order kinetics in NBP and citric acid, respectively. The reaction follows inverse fractional order with respect to perchloric acid. The Arrhenius equation is found to be valid for the reaction. A detailed mechanism with the associated reaction kinetics is discussed. The catalytic role of CTAB micelles is discussed in terms of the Menger and Portnoy model.

Sodium meta-vanadate as volumetric reagent : Iodine monochloride method (Indirect determinatios)

Sodium meta-vanadate has been used as an oxidizing agent in hydrochloric acid medium for the indirect volumetric determination of hydrogen peroxide, lead dioxide, manganese dioxide, selenium dioxide, potassium persulphate, copper sulphate, sodium formate and sodium sulphide using iodine monochloride as a catalyst, pre-oxidizer and an indicator. Chloroform is coloured pink owing to the liberation of iodine during the titration and becomes light pale yellow at the end-point owing to the formation of iodine monochloride.
