A cross-laboratory study on microbial fuel cells (MFC) which involved different institutions around the world is presented. The study aims to assess the development of autochthone microbial pools enriched from domestic wastewater, cultivated in identical single-chamber MFCs, operated in the same way, thereby approaching the idea of developing common standards for MFCs. The MFCs are inoculated with domestic wastewater in different geographic locations. The acclimation stage and, consequently, the startup time are longer or shorter depending on the inoculum, but all MFCs reach similar maximum power outputs (55±22 μW cm−2) and COD removal efficiencies (87±9 %), despite the diversity of the bacterial communities. It is inferred that the MFC performance starts when the syntrophic interaction of fermentative and electrogenic bacteria stabilizes under anaerobic conditions at the anode. The generated power is mostly limited by electrolytic conductivity, electrode overpotentials, and an unbalanced external resistance. The enriched microbial consortia, although composed of different bacterial groups, share similar functions both on the anode and the cathode of the different MFCs, resulting in similar electrochemical output.  相似文献

Let L be a Lie algebra, nilpotent of class 2, over an infinite field K, and suppose that the centre C of L is one dimensional; such Lie algebras are called Heisenberg algebras. Let ρ:L→hom KV be a finite dimensional representation of the Heisenberg algebra L such that ρ(C) contains non-singular linear transformations of V, and denote l(ρ) the ideal of identities for the representation ρ. We prove that the ideals of identities of representations containing I(ρ) and generated by multilinear polynomials satisfy the ACC. Let sl 2(L) be the Lie algebra of the traceless 2×2 matrices over K, and suppose the characteristic of K equals 2. As a corollary we obtain that the ideals of identities of representations of Lie algebras containing that of the regular representation of sl 2(K) and generated by multilinear polynomials, are finitely based. In addition we show that one cannot simply dispense with the condition of multilinearity. Namely, we show that the ACC is violated for the ideals of representations of Lie algebras (over an infinite field of characteristic 2) that contain the identities of the regular representation of sl 2(K).  相似文献

In this paper, glucose oxidizing bioanodes employing immobilized PQQ‐dependent aldose dehydrogenase were prepared and characterized. The enzyme was immobilized on carbon paper in two different polymeric systems: tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB) modified Nafion and butanal modified chitosan. Characterization of the bioanodes included electron microscopy, electrochemical evaluation, as well as stability and leaching studies. Results indicate that the operational degradation was the same but the long term storage stability is better in the case of modified Nafion. The performance of the modified Nafion immobilized bioanodes stayed at 70 % of the initial value after 60 days of storing at 4 °C and 25 °C. Compared to TBAB modified Nafion immobilized bioanodes, butanal modified chitosan immobilized bioanodes showed 50 % activity after eight weeks storage at 4°C and one week storage at 25 °C. However, the electrochemical properties of modified chitosan were better.  相似文献

The structural equilibrium parameters, the adsorption energies, and the vibrational frequencies of the nitrogen molecule and the hydrogen atom adsorbed on the (111) surface of rhodium have been investigated using different generalized‐gradient approximation (GGA), nonlocal correlation, meta‐GGA, and hybrid functionals, namely, Perdew, Burke, and Ernzerhof (PBE), Revised‐RPBE, vdW‐DF, Tao, Perdew, Staroverov, and Scuseria functional (TPSS), and Heyd, Scuseria, and Ernzerhof (HSE06) functional in the plane wave formalism. Among the five tested functionals, nonlocal vdW‐DF and meta‐GGA TPSS functionals are most successful in describing energetics of dinitrogen physisorption to the Rh(111) surface, while the PBE functional provides the correct chemisorption energy for the hydrogen atom. It was also found that TPSS functional produces the best vibrational spectra of the nitrogen molecule and the hydrogen atom on rhodium within the harmonic formalism with the error of ?2.62 and ?1.1% for the N? N stretching and Rh? H stretching frequency. Thus, TPSS functional was proposed as a method of choice for obtaining vibrational spectra of low weight adsorbates on metallic surfaces within the harmonic approximation. At the anharmonic level, by decoupling the Rh? H and N? N stretching modes from the bulk phonons and by solving one‐ and two‐dimensional Schrödinger equation associated with the Rh? H, Rh? N, and N? N potential energy we calculated the anharmonic correction for N? N and Rh? H stretching modes as ?31 cm?1 and ?77 cm?1 at PBE level. Anharmonic vibrational frequencies calculated with the use of the hybrid HSE06 function are in best agreement with available experiments. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

The assessment of an expanded graphite‐Ag‐zeolite‐epoxy composite (EG‐Z‐Ag‐Epoxy) electrode for the determination of 4‐chlorophenol (4‐CP) is described and compared to the corresponding expanded graphite‐epoxy composite (EG‐Epoxy) electrode. Cyclic voltammetry was used to characterize the electrochemical behavior and determination of 4‐CP at both electrodes in 0.1 M Na2SO4 and 0.1 M NaOH supporting electrolytes. A substantial enhancement of sensitivity for the determination of 4‐CP at the EG‐Z‐Ag‐Epoxy electrode was reached by applying a chemical preconcentration step prior to voltammetric quantification. Also, under these last conditions the lowest limit of detection of 1 μM illustrates the analytical versatility of this electrode in a concentration range where aquatic 4‐chlorophenol pollution is known to occur.  相似文献

In this study we report the development of a needle-type glucose biosensor for the management of hemorrhagic shock. The immobilization technique depends on the electrophoretic deposition of the glucose oxidase enzyme in an electrochemically grown platinum black matrix. The sensor was coated with Nafion to decrease the effect of interferents. Preliminary tests were carried out to evaluate the sensor performance in vitro. These tests included the measurement of glucose levels in buffer solutions containing various potential physiological interferents, as well as in bovine serum. The preliminary results show the sensor to have inearity up to 33 mM and a diminished response to interferents. The advantages of this technique are its simplicity and high controllability.  相似文献

This paper describes electrochemical behavior of laccase from the fungus Trametes versicolor. The issues related to discrimination of the redox potentials corresponding to copper centers T1 and T2/T3 in the active site and possible mechanism of intramolecular electron transfer have been discussed. The electron‐transfer rate constant for laccase immobilized on carbon electrode is 3.4 s?1. The bioelectrocatalytic activity of the enzyme was studied in the presence of 1,4‐hydroquinone (HQ). The kinetics of HQ oxidation is very fast (KM=3.8 μM). However, the catalytic activity of laccase in the presence of high concentration of HQ decreases drastically. It is suggested that the T2/T3 copper center is able to accept electrons from HQ molecules directly via intramolecular channel.  相似文献
