The Chemical Dehydrochlorination of Polyvinyl Chloride. A New Method for Polyenic Sequences Evaluation

Abstract

The chemical dehydrochlorination of polyvinyl chloride was studied in solution in tetrahydrofuran. The dehydrochlorinated products were characterized by their chlorine contents and by UV/visible spectroscopy. The absorption spectra of dehydrochlorinated PVC consist of a series of absorption maxima between 200 and 600 nm due to the formation of conjugated polyenic sequences. In this article we describe a new method for polyenic sequences evaluation based on deconvolution of the experimental spectrum. A comparison with the former technique usually employed is presented.     

Branching in Polyethylenes. Study by High Resolution Nuclear Magnetic Resonance

The values of the CH₃/CH₂ ratios measured from accumulated NMR spectra of polyethylenes samples are in good agreement with those obtained from conventional IR techniques. Because NMR does not require calibration, systematic errors could be less important. Owing to the estimated values of the CH/CH₃ ratios, tetrasubstituted carbon atoms are present in all the high-pressure polyethylene specimens.     

Development of new high‐performance visible light photoinitiators based on carbazole scaffold and their applications in 3d printing and photocomposite synthesis

In this article, new compounds based on the carbazole scaffold (DMs = DM1 and DM2, constituted by a carbazole unit connected on positions 3 and 6 to a two 4,4′‐dimethoxydiphenylamine groups and differing by the substituent present on the nitrogen heteroatom of the carbazole core) were synthesized and proposed as high‐performance visible light photoinitiators/photosensitizers for both the free‐radical polymerization of methacrylates and the cationic polymerization of epoxides upon visible light exposure using LED@405 nm. Remarkably, DM2 leads to higher final conversions than DM1. In order to study the photophysical and photochemical properties of the carbazole derivatives, different parameters were taken into account such as the light absorption, the steady‐state photolysis, and the fluorescence spectroscopy. Using different techniques such as fluorescence quenching, redox behavior, and cyclic voltammetry, we are able to discuss the photosensitization/photoinitiation reactions providing a full coherent picture of the involved chemical mechanisms. The photosensitization of the carbazole derivatives occurred predominantly via singlet excited states at the rate of the diffusion limit. Upon exposure to laser diode at 405 nm, DMs show high performance in initiating systems for 3D resins. A Carbocationic Triarylmethane-Based Porous Covalent Organic Network

A thermally stable carbocationic covalent organic network (CON), named RIO-70 was prepared from pararosaniline hydrochloride, an inexpensive dye, and triformylphloroglucinol in solvothermal conditions. This nanoporous organic material has shown a specific surface area of 990 m² g⁻¹ and pore size of 10.3 Å. The material has CO₂ uptake of 2.14 mmol g⁻¹ (0.5 bar), 2.7 mmol g⁻¹ (1 bar), and 6.8 mmol g⁻¹ (20 bar), the latter corresponding to 3 CO₂ molecules adsorbed per pore per sheet. It is shown to be a semiconductor, with electrical conductivity (σ) of 3.17×10⁻⁷ S cm⁻¹, which increases to 5.26×10⁻⁴ S cm⁻¹ upon exposure to I₂ vapor. DFT calculations using periodic conditions support the findings.     

A New Practical Preparation of bis(Trimethylsilyl) Peroxide

Bis(trimethylsilyl) peroxide can be readily obtained by reaction of trimethylchlorosilane with the hexamethylenetetramine-hydrogene peroxide complex.
