This paper concerns Hamiltonian and non-Hamiltonian perturbations of integrable two degree of freedom Hamiltonian systems which contain homoclinic and periodic orbits. Our main example concerns perturbations of the uncoupled system consisting of the simple pendulum and the harmonic oscillator. The Grüneisen parameter and lattice thermal expansion of the A-15 compounds V3Si and V3Ge at room temperature are evaluated on the basis of the method due to Brugger and Fritz [1] from the third order elastic constants reported earlier [2]. The calculated values are compared with available experimental values and are found to fit satisfactorily.  相似文献

We present a model of the weak interactions in which a custodial symmetry that is not an invariance of the starting Lagrangian emerges in the effective low-energy sector of the theory. This symmetry maintains the relationM w=M z cos w to all orders in the Higgs self-couplings to any required degree of accuracy, while leaving the quark mass spectrum completely unconstrained. The model is a local left-right symmetric chiral flavor gauge theory of the electroweak interactions in which the symmetry is spontaneously broken by fundamental Higgs fields which transform the same way under the chiral group as fermion Dirac and Majorana masses.  相似文献

The relation between the fragility of glass-forming systems, a parameter which describes many of their key physical characteristics, and atomic scale structure is investigated by using neutron diffraction to measure the topological and chemical ordering for germania, or GeO(2), which is an archetypal strong glass former. We find that the ordering for this and other tetrahedral network-forming glasses at distances greater than the nearest neighbor can be rationalized in terms of an interplay between the relative importance of two length scales. One of these is associated with an intermediate range, the other with an extended range and, with increasing glass fragility, it is the extended range ordering which dominates.  相似文献

We present a new algorithm for estimating parameters in reaction–diffusion systems that display pattern formation via the mechanism of diffusion-driven instability. A Modified Discrete Optimal Control Algorithm (MDOCA) is illustrated with the Schnakenberg and Gierer–Meinhardt reaction–diffusion systems using PDE constrained optimization techniques. The MDOCA algorithm is a modification of a standard variable step gradient algorithm that yields a huge saving in computational cost. The results of numerical experiments demonstrate that the algorithm accurately estimated key parameters associated with stationary target functions generated from the models themselves. Furthermore, the robustness of the algorithm was verified by performing experiments with target functions perturbed with various levels of additive noise. The MDOCA algorithm could have important applications in the mathematical modeling of realistic Turing systems when experimental data are available.  相似文献
