The structural, electronic and optical properties of HgAl2Se4 are investigated using the full potential linear augmented plane wave method based on density functional theory. The calculated structural parameters using LDA are in excellent agreement with the available experimental result. The obtained energy band gap (2.24 eV) using EV-GGA approximation is in excellent agreement with experimental data (2.20 eV). Variation in the energy band gap as a function of the unit cell lattice parameter has been studied. The optical properties show a considerable anisotropy, which makes this compound very useful for various linear–nonlinear optical devices. 相似文献

In vitro as well as in vivo studies have shown prolonged T1 relaxation times in patients with acute leukemia. The mechanism behind this finding is not known. In order to evaluate if this was specific for leukemia we examined eight patients with polycythemia vera, representing a condition with a rather benign bone marrow neoplasia. In this group of patients we found prolonged T1 relaxation times but normal T2 relaxation times. This may indicate that the prolonged T1 relaxation time seen in leukemic bone marrow is not due to the malignant cell per se. 相似文献

Improvement in signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and/or penetration depth can be achieved in medical ultrasound by using long coded waveforms, in a similar manner as in radars or sonars. However, the time-bandwidth product (TB) improvement, and thereby SNR improvement is considerably lower in medical ultrasound, due to the lower available bandwidth. There is still space for about 20 dB improvement in the SNR, which will yield a penetration depth up to 20 cm at 5 MHz [M. O'Donnell, IEEE Trans. Ultrason. Ferroelectr. Freq. Contr., 39(3) (1992) 341]. The limited TB additionally yields unacceptably high range sidelobes. However, the frequency weighting from the ultrasonic transducer's bandwidth, although suboptimal, can be beneficial in sidelobe reduction. The purpose of this study is an experimental evaluation of the above considerations in a coded excitation ultrasound system. A coded excitation system based on a modified commercial scanner is presented. A predistorted FM signal is proposed in order to keep the resulting range sidelobes at acceptably low levels. The effect of the transducer is taken into account in the design of the compression filter. Intensity levels have been considered and simulations on the expected improvement in SNR are also presented. Images of a wire phantom and clinical images have been taken with the coded system. The images show a significant improvement in penetration depth and they preserve both axial resolution and contrast. 相似文献

Surface-stabilized orthoconic antiferroelectric liquid crystals (OAFLCs) have a director tilt of theta = 45 degrees and are, with no field applied, negatively uniaxial with the optic axis perpendicular to the cell substrates. We demonstrate that OAFLCs can be utilized to achieve lossless phase modulation with three almost equidistant phase levels. This turns out to be true also for polymer-stabilized OAFLCs, where the polymer network increases the switching speed of the device without affecting the phase modulation appreciably. 相似文献

Aim
To study the effect of long-term glucose feeding on aortic lipid composition by using the time of flight-secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF-SIMS).Method
Rats were divided into two groups, drinking water with or without 10% glucose from birth to 6 months of age. The aortic wall was dissected out, high-pressure frozen, freeze-fractured, freeze-dried and analyzed by TOF-SIMS using a Bismuth cluster ion source. Surface spectra were taken from standardized regions of the vessel wall.Results
Different peaks, such as cholesterol, fatty acids (FAs) and diacylglycerols (DAGs), were identified by the principal component analysis as carries of variance between two groups. These peaks were then compared by conventional t-test. Our data showed that the intensity of cholesterol, but not FAs and DAGs, was significantly decreased in the glucose-drinking rat. Moreover, the long-term glucose intake changed ratios between different FAs in the aorta.Conclusion
The long-term glucose intake led to decreased cholesterol intensity in the aortic wall and this effect was revealed through a global analytical approach with objective selection of significant variables. 相似文献78.

A micromolar concentration of zinc has been shown to significantly change the dynamics of exocytosis as well as the vesicle contents in a model cell line, providing direct evidence that zinc regulates neurotransmitter release. To provide insight into how zinc modulates these exocytotic processes, neurotransmitter release and vesicle content were compared with single cell amperometry and intracellular impact vesicle cytometry with a range of zinc concentrations. Additionally, time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) images of lipid distributions in the cell membrane after zinc treatment correlate to changes in exocytosis. By combining electrochemical techniques and mass spectrometry imaging, we proposed a mechanism by which zinc changes the fusion pore and the rate of neurotransmitter release by changing lipid distributions and results in the modulation of synaptic strength and plasticity. 相似文献
