This paper presents a method for programming the flow rate of liquids inside open microfluidic networks (MFNs). A MFN comprises a number of independent flow paths, each of which starts with an open filling port, has a sealed microchannel in which assays can be performed, and an open capillary pump (CP). The MFN is placed over Peltier elements and its flow paths initially fill owing to capillary forces when liquids are added to the filling ports. A cooling Peltier element underneath the filling ports dynamically prevents evaporation in all filling ports using the ambient temperature and relative humidity as inputs. Another Peltier element underneath the CPs heats the pumps thereby inducing evaporation in the CPs and setting the flow rate in the microchannels. This method achieves flow rates in the microchannels ranging from approximately 1.2 nL s(-1) to approximately 30 pL s(-1), and is able to keep 90% of a 0.6 microL solution placed in an open filling port for 60 min. This simple and efficient method should be applicable to numerous assays or chemical reactions that require small and precise flow of liquids and reagents inside microfluidics. 相似文献

Easily prepared and highly modular organic amide proligands have been used to synthesize a series of new bis(amidate)-bis(amido) Ti and Zr complexes via protonolysis. These complexes have been structurally characterized by NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography. The solid-state molecular structures of these complexes indicate that the amidate ligands bind to the metal centers in an exclusively bidentate fashion, resulting in discrete monomeric species. Geometric isomerism in these species is highly dependent upon the steric characteristics of the proligands utilized in the synthesis. In solution, these complexes are observed to isomerize on the NMR time scale, with one isomer being predominant. Bonding in the bis(amidate)-bis(amido) complexes was investigated by DFT calculations. The geometric isomers predicted by theory matched the experimentally observed results, within experimental error. The orbitals associated with amidate-metal bonding are energetically well below the frontier orbitals. The HOMO in these complexes is a pi orbital associated with amido ligand-to-metal bonding character, while the LUMO in all cases is a vacant d orbital on the metal center. 相似文献

A systematic investigation was undertaken into the relative separation performance of five reversed-phase chromatography columns including some commercially new hybrid packed columns for a series of polycarboxylic acids and polyphenol compounds. Information theory (IT) and factor analysis (FA), together with a basic evaluation of retention information (band shape, retention factor and elution order) were used to compare four columns to a conventional C18 column. The results revealed very little difference in retention behaviour between the Phenomenex Aqua C18 column, the Waters XTerra RP C18 column, and the conventional Phenomenex Luna C18 column. However, there were notable differences in the retention processes between the Phenomenex Synergi polar-RP column, which is an ether-linked phenyl base with polar endcapping, and the Luna C18 column. The most significant differences were observed between the Luna C18 column and a Phenomenex Luna Cyano column. However, the limited degree of retention of the polycarboxylic acids and polyphenol compounds on the Luna Cyano column permits only limited use for the separation of these types of compounds. Overall, the Phenomenex Synergi polar-RP column exhibited the best performance for the separation of the test solutes compared to that of the conventional C18 column, with IT yielding an Informational Similarity of 0.99 and FA a moderate correlation coefficient of 0.70. The Phenomenex Synergi polar-RP column gave the best peak shape and offered substantial selectivity differences thereby providing a good alternative over the conventional C18 column for separating polycarboxylic acids and polyphenols. 相似文献

A new type of approximating curve for finding a particular zero of the sum of two maximal monotone operators in a Hilbert space is investigated. This curve consists of the zeros of perturbed problems in which one operator is replaced with its Yosida approximation and a viscosity term is added. As the perturbation vanishes, the curve is shown to converge to the zero of the sum that solves a particular strictly monotone variational inequality. As an off-spring of this result, we obtain an approximating curve for finding a particular zero of the sum of several maximal monotone operators. New chiral thioureas 1–8 containing 1,2-ethylendiamine or trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane as the carbon skeleton, and containing an (S)-α-phenylethyl group have been prepared (79–98% yield). Thioureas 1–8 were used as ligands for the zinc-based catalyzed asymmetric hydrosilylation of acetophenone with polymethylhydrosiloxane (PMHS).
