On the synthesis of the N2F+5 cation. A critical comment on the paper by Toy and Stringham.

Toy and Stringham recently reported [1] the synthesis of N₂F⁺₅ (CF₃)₃CO^-, a salt containing the novel pentafluorohydrazinium cation. This cation would be of significant academic and practical interest [2] since it would constitute the first known example of a substituted NF⁺₄ cation, i.e. an NF⁺₄ cation in which a fluorine ligand is replaced by an NF₂ group. According to the authors of [1], N₂F⁺₅(CF₃)₃CO^- was formed in a very unusual reaction involving the transfer of a fluorine cation from (CF₃)₃COF to N₂F₄ according to:

     

The reaction of 2-picoline N-Oxide with o-substituled benzoates and lsatoic anhydrides

The reaction of 2-picoline N-Oxide anion with o-substituted henzoates and isatoic anhydrides to give synthetically useful l-(2-methoxyphenyl)-2-(2-pyridinyl)ethanone N-oxides, I-(2-hydroxy-phenyJ)-2-(2-pyridinyl)ethanone N-oxides and I -(2-arninopheny])-2-(2-pyridinyl)ethanone N-oxides is described.     

Macroreticular ion-exchange resins: some analytical applications to petroleum products

Extraction and subsequent recovery, in four separate fractions, of naphthenic acids, alkylphenols, pyrrollic compounds and nitrogen bases can be made from petroleum products using macroporous ion-exchange resins. Distinctive features of the technique are the use of dissolved gases in polar solvents as eluants and the application of the carbonate form of anion-exchange resins. The transition metal form of a macroreticular cation exchanger is shown to extract ligands from non-aqueous systems and a specific application to petroleum analysis is given.     

Synthesis of 2′,3′-dihydrosolanesyl analogues of β-d-arabinofuranosyl-1-monophosphoryldecaprenol with promising antimycobacterial activity

Two new hydrolytically stable analogues of β-d-arabinofuranosyl-1-monophosphoryldecaprenol, the donor substrate for mycobacterial arabinosyltransferase, have been prepared. Biological evaluation of these compounds in vitro against Mycobacterium tuberculosis H₃₇Rv strain revealed a promising activity.     

Primeness of the enveloping algebra of a Cartan type Lie superalgebra

We show that a primeness criterion for enveloping algebras of Lie superalgebras discovered by Bell is applicable to the Cartan type Lie superalgebras , even. Other algebras are considered but there are no definitive answers in these cases.
