Experimental demonstration of a passive all-fiber Q-switched erbium- and samarium-doped laser

Self-Q-switched operation of the all-fiber laser using erbium and samarium fibers in the cavity is realized experimentally. This passively Q-switched all-fiber laser produces very stable pulses with energy of 142 nJ and duration of 450 ns. The experimental results were well reproduced by the results obtained through the numerical integration of a rate-equations model.     

The tuneable complexation of gold nanoparticles

Mixed monolayer protected gold nanoparticles have been fabricated incorporating 1,5-dialkyloxynaphthalene moieties that are capable of forming complexes with the tetracationic cyclophane cyclobis(paraquat-p-phenylene); electrochemical reduction of the cyclophane or the addition of tetrathiafulvalene results in disassembly of the complexes.     

Synthesis of new potentially bioactive bicyclic 2-pyridones

Three convenient methods of reduction of the nitro group of 5-nitroimidazoles and 5-nitrothiazole that bear a diethylmethylene malonate group in an ortho-like position with respect to the nitro group and cyclization of the resulting amino derivatives are reported. These reactions afforded the target bicyclic 2-pyridones in good to excellent yields.     

Cartan-Dieudonné Theorem for {\mathcal {A}}-Modules

Like the classical Cartan-Dieudonné theorem, the sheaf-theoretic version shows that A{\mathcal {A}}-isometries on a convenient A{\mathcal {A}}-module E{\mathcal {E}} of rank n can be decomposed in at most n orthogonal symmetries (reflections) with respect to non-isotropic hyperplanes. However, the coefficient sheaf of \mathbb C{\mathbb {C}}-algebras A{\mathcal {A}} is assumed to be a PID \mathbb C{\mathbb {C}}-algebra sheaf and, if (E,f){(\mathcal {E},\phi)} is a pairing with f{\phi} a non-degenerate A{\mathcal {A}}-bilinear morphism, we assume that E{\mathcal {E}} has nowhere-zero (local) isotropic sections; but, for Riemannian sheaves of A{\mathcal {A}}-modules, this is not necessarily required.     

Rotation numbers in the infinite annulus

Using the notion of free transverse triangulation we prove that the rotation number of a given probability measure invariant by a homeomorphism of the open annulus depends continuously on the homeomorphism under some boundedness conditions.

     

Pricing and revenue maximization over a multicommodity transportation network: the nonlinear demand case

This paper is concerned with the design of efficient exact and heuristic algorithms for addressing a bilevel network pricing problem where demand is a nonlinear function of travel cost. The exact method is based on the piecewise linear approximation of the demand function, yielding mixed integer programming formulations, while heuristic procedures are developed within a bilevel trust region framework.     

Une méthode de décomposition en temps avec des schémas dʼintégration réversible pour la résolution de système dʼéquations différentielles ordinaires

We propose a time domain decomposition method that breaks the sequentiality of the integration scheme for systems of ODE. Under the condition of differentiability of the flow, we transform the initial value problem into a well-posed boundary values problem using the symmetrization of the interval of time integration and time-reversible integration scheme. For systems of linear ODE, we explicitly construct the block tridiagonal system satisfied by the solutions at the time sub-intervals extremities. We then propose an iterative algorithm of Schwarz type for updating the interfaces conditions which can extend the method to systems of nonlinear ODE.     

Pulsed‐laser radical polymerization and propagation kinetic parameters of some alkyl acrylates

Pulsed‐laser photoinitiated polymerization was used to determine, in toluene solution, the propagation kinetic parameters of a series of acrylates with increasing size of the alkyl side group. Transfer to monomer and to toluene did not occur significantly in our PLP conditions and our temperature range since no broadening of the MMD was observed, allowing generally to work with two inflection points. In contrast, depending on the nature of the acrylate and on the PLP conditions, transfer to polymer, and thus long chain branching, can critically interfere. Indeed, the Mark‐Houwink‐Sakurada parameters, which are used to calculate the absolute molar mass at the inflection point, strongly depend on the polymer structure and thus, should be carefully measured for each PLP sample. Although still preliminary, the results show that the k_ps measured in toluene solution present a tendency to continuously decrease when increasing the size of the side group. This observation is conflicting with the reported behaviour for PLP experiments in bulk, revealing a possible solvent effect.
