Surface plasmon-phonon polaritons (SPPP’s) of types 3 and 4 are investigated in doped anisotropic single crystals of hexagonal silicon carbide (6H-SiC) in the orientation corresponding to KC and xyC. It is shown that a dispersion dependence of the type-3 SPPP’s bounded by K appears in 6H-SiC when the plasmon frequency increases to ν p⩾350 cm−1. At ν p⩾400 cm−1, ν s(K) exists for type-4 SPPP’s in the frequency range Ω + <ν< + . When the concentration of free charge carriers is increased, the dispersion curves are displaced toward higher frequencies. A simple experimental method and a set-up to control light beams in the plane of liquid crystal (LC) cell is developed. The main idea of the method is the reflection and the refraction of light beams propagating in a plane of LC layer from the boundary, which separates the regions of a liquid crystal cell with different director orientations and refractive indices. This boundary can be produced by electric field applied to the LC layer with a planar homogeneous orientation. The disclination lines that separate the extremely sharp changes of LC orientation can be also used for this purpose. The possibility of discrete deflection of light beam from the initial direction is shown. A computer simulation confirmed that the proposed experimental geometry was most suitable to control intensity of extraordinary rays propagating in the plane of liquid crystal layer.  相似文献

We present an experimental study of thin liquid crystal (LC) layers under the action of a harmonically varied pressure gradient. Optical measurements were performed to register the linear oscillations of a nematic director related to homeotropic and homeoplanar (hybrid) initial states. In the latter case one of the inner surfaces of the rectangular channels was treated by ultraviolet light to provide a relatively weak planar anchoring. The optical response of hybrid and homeotropic LC cells under an oscillating pressure gradient was investigated in relation to on the amplitude and frequency of the pressure gradient. A hydrodynamic model is developed taking into account the LC polar anchoring strength and the surface viscosity responsible for a fast LC surface dynamics. Our estimates show that the thickness of the boundary layer corresponding to the surface viscosity does not exceed 10?6 m, and further experiments are needed with thinner LC cells and higher frequency oscillations to achieve a more precise value. An oscillating Poiseuille flow in the hybrid cell was found to be useful for characterizing elastic and viscous properties of a weakly anchoring LC surface layer in a fast surface dynamic process.  相似文献

We consider the diffractive Drell–Yan process in proton–(anti)proton collisions at high energies in the color dipole approach. The calculations are performed at forward rapidities of the leptonic pair. The effect of eikonalization of the universal “bare” dipole–target elastic amplitude in the saturation regime takes into account the principal part of the gap survival probability. We present predictions for the total and differential cross sections of the single-diffractive lepton-pair production at RHIC and LHC energies. We analyze implications of the QCD factorization breakdown in the diffractive Drell–Yan process, which is caused by a specific interplay of the soft and hard interactions, resulting in rather unusual properties of the corresponding observables.  相似文献

The reaction of (carbamoylmethyl)diphenylphosphine sulfide with AgNO3 yields the polymeric complex [Ag2{Ph2P(S)CH2C(O)NH2}2(NO3)2] n . Its structure was established by X-ray diffraction analysis. The coordination environments about both Ag+ cations are formed by five donor atoms, two of which are bonded to the metal atom substantially more weakly than the remaining three atoms. The compositions of the coordination polyhedra are different: ({AgSO′(C)O(N)O2(N′)} and {AgS′ SO(C)O2(N)}). The coordinated ligands differ in their functions: one ligand chelates the metal cation and its sulfur atom is additionally bonded to the second cation, while the second ligand acts as a bridge between the two different cations. The structure of the complex and the character of the interaction between the ligand and AgNO3 are substantially affected by the network of hydrogen bonds. Translated fromIzvestiya Akademii Nauk. Abstract

The results of a low frequency ultrasonic study of 4-n-butyloxybenzylidene-4'-n-butylaniline (BBBA) in the vicinity of the smectic A-nematic transition are presented. The frequency and temperature dependence of the parameters describing the anisotropic ultrasound absorption are determined experimentally and compared with the predictions of fluctuation and relaxation theories of the smectic A-nematic transition.
