We have investigated the controversy surrounding the (sqrt[3] x sqrt[3]) R30 degrees structure of self-assembled monolayers of methylthiolate on Au(111) by first principles molecular dynamics simulations, energy and angle resolved photoelectron diffraction, and grazing incidence x-ray diffraction. Our simulations find a dynamic equilibrium between bridge site adsorption and a novel structure where 2 CH3S radicals are bound to an Au adatom that has been lifted from the gold substrate. As a result, the interface is characterized by a large atomic roughness with both adatoms and vacancies. This result is confirmed by extensive photoelectron and grazing incidence x-ray diffraction measurements.  相似文献

We investigated how the duration of short laser pulses evolves in a dispersive material, using rms widths and a propagation law based on a pulse quality factor. Experiments were carried out with femtosecond pulses (10 to 25fs at the temporal waist) propagating in bulk fused silica. Excellent agreement was found between theory and experiment. This approach does not require complete characterization of laser pulses and eliminates the need for any assumption regarding the interpretation of autocorrelation traces. The method is of general validity, and it can be applied to pulses of arbitrary shape.  相似文献

Detailed chemical mechanisms have to be incorporated in turbulent combustion modelling to predict flame propagation, ignition, extinction or pollutant formation. Unfortunately, hundreds of species and thousands of elementary reactions are involved in hydrocarbon chemical schemes and cannot be handled in practical simulations, because of the related computational costs and the need to model the complexity of their interaction with turbulent motions. Detailed chemistry may be handled using look-up tables, where chemical parameters such as reaction rates and/or species mass fractions are determined from a reduced set of coordinates, progress variables or mixture fractions, as proposed in ILDM, FPI or FGM methods. Nevertheless, these tables may require large computer memory spaces and non-negligible access times. This issue becomes of crucial importance when running on massively parallel computers: to implement these databases in shared memories would induce a large number of data exchanges, reducing the overall code performance; on the other hand duplicating databases in every local processor memory may become impossible either for large databases or small local memories. This work proposes to take advantage of the self-similar behaviour of turbulent premixed flames to reduce the size of these chemical databases, specifically when running on massively parallel machines, under the FPI (Flame Prolongation of ILDM) framework. Several approaches to reduce the database are investigated and discussed both in terms of memory requirements and access times. A very good compromise is obtained for methane–air turbulent premixed flames, where the size of the database is decreased by a factor of 1000, while the access time is reduced by about 60%.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to evaluate the influence of the surface free energy upon the propagation of the eigenmodes of structures, by studying successively (a) the Rayleigh wave for an elastic half-space, (b) the Lamb waves for an elastic layer, and (c) the guided modes for a tri-layer structure (e.g., metal/adhesive/metal). The surface free energy is a parameter which appears in the jump conditions of stresses and displacements at each interface, and which consequently modifies the eigenmodes, solutions of the boundary conditions system. As expected, the Rayleigh wave is dispersive and its velocity increases when the surface free energy increases. In the same way, the velocity of Lamb waves also increases except at normal angle of propagation where the surface free energy does not arise. Moreover, near the Rayleigh angle, the behaviour of the A0 and S0 Lamb modes varies strongly according to the surface free energy. Similar results are observed for the tri-layer structure.  相似文献

This paper presents the study we carried out on the formation of soot particles in low-pressure premixed CH4/O2/N2 flames by using Laser-Induced Incandescence (LII). Flames were stabilised at 26.6 kPa (200 torr). Four different equivalence ratios were tested (Φ = 1.95, 205, 2.15 and 2.32), Φ = 1.95 corresponding to the equivalence ratio for which LII signals begin to be measurable along the flame. The evolution of the LII signals with laser fluence (fluence curve), time (temporal decay) and emission wavelength is reported at different heights above the burner. We specifically took advantage of the low-pressure conditions to probe with a good spatial resolution the soot inception zone of the flames. Significant different behaviours of the fluence curves are observed according to the probed region of the flames and Φ. In addition, while the surface growth process is accompanied by an increase in the LII decay-times (indicator of the primary particle diameter) at higher Φ, decay-times become increasingly short at lower Φ reaching a constant value along the flame at Φ = 1.95. These behaviours are consistent with the detection of the smallest incandescent particles in the investigated flames, these particles having experienced very weak surface growth. Flame modelling including soot formation has been implemented in flames Φ = 2.05 and 2.32. Experimental quantitative soot volume fraction profiles were satisfactorily reproduced by adjusting the fraction of reactive soot surface available for reactions. The qualitative variation of the computed soot particle diameter and the relative weight of surface growth versus nucleation were consistent with the experimental observations.  相似文献

In this paper the flexibility of Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) has been proved for the analysis of water solutions. The plasma is generated directly in the bulk of a water solution by a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser (1064). The emission signal of four different solutions has been studied: AlCl3, NaCl, CaCO3 and LiF. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is a technique that can systematically modify behaviour by inducing changes in the underlying brain function. In order to better understand the neuromodulatory effect of tDCS, the present study examined the impact of tDCS on performance in a working memory (WM) task and its underlying neural activity. We show that soft-core bosons in two dimensions with a ring exchange term exhibit a tendency for phase separation. This observation suggests that the thermodynamic stability of normal Bose liquid phases driven by ring exchange should be carefully examined.  相似文献
