Heat transfer during melting in rectangular enclosures—a finite element analysis

This paper is devoted to the finite element analysis of heat transfer during melting in rectangular enclosures. The effects of aspect ratio and subcooling on the motion of the interface and the Nusselt number have been investigated. The different schemes employed in the present work throw useful light on the choice of the appropriate method for dealing with such phase change problems.     

Carbon-13 NMR spectra of Piper alkamides and related compounds

¹³C NMR spectra of Piper alkamides and related compounds have been completely assigned on the basis of splitting patterns in the coupled spectra, application of additivity relationships and internal comparison of chemical shifts.     

Synthesis of gaussian beam excited rectangular dielectric guide modes by ray theory

In the present paper, ray analysis of the wave propagation has been used to evaluate the excitation of a linear dielectric guide by a gaussian beam. The paper begins by determining the Green's function of the structure and also evaluates the excitation by gaussian beam therefrom, following Falsen and Shin [1].     

Saturating chiral field theory for the study of nuclear matter in the relativistic Hartree approximation

The bulk properties of nuclear matter are studied by considering a chirally invariant lagrangian which contains an interaction term involving scalar and vector mesons, of the form (apart from a numerical factor) used by Boguta. The calculation is performed in the relativistic Hartree approximation which includes the baryon vacuum fluctuation correction.     

Reactions of indoles with mercury (II) salts

A number of mercurated indoles were prepared. Their spectroscopic data (UV,ir,^1H-NMR and13C-nmr) are reported. Our results contradict certain data appearing in previous reports on similar compounds. When heated in acetic acid mercurated compounds decomposed, although the products formed were not identical with those obtained earlier from the same substrates by the action of thallium(III) acetate in acetic acid. Reaction of l-methylindole-3-mercuriacetate with styrene in the presence of lithium tetrachloropalladate furnished a product which was tentatively assigned the structure 9-methyl-1,3-diphenyl-1, 2, 3, 4-tetrahydrocarbazole.     

Off-shell t-matrix for an exponential potential with non-local core interaction

The wave function approach of Van Leeuwen and Reiner to the t-matrix is generalized to the case of a non-local potential. The transition matrix element for this potential is obtained. The results are used to compute the s-wave part of the t-matrix for a non-local square well potential combined with an outside exponential potential.     

Dieckmann cyclisation of some β,γ-unsaturated dimethyl esters—II

Further studies of Dieckmann cyclisation are described based on unsaturated heptanedioic acid diesters 1 and 9.     

B−L non-conserving proton decay in guts

It is shown that B?L non-conserving proton decay (p→e^?π⁺π⁺ etc.) is allowed through gauge boson mixing in both SO(10) and E(6) GUTs, but not in the SU(5) GUT. The lifetime for this decay mode is estimated.
