Generation of 287 W, 5.5 ps pulses at 78 MHz repetition rate from a cryogenically cooled Yb:YAG amplifier seeded by a fiber chirped-pulse amplification system

We generate linearly polarized, 287 W average-power, 5.5 ps pulses using a cryogenically cooled Yb:YAG amplifier at a repetition rate of 78 MHz. An optical-to-optical efficiency of 41% is obtained at 700 W pump power. A 6 W, 0.4 nm bandwidth picosecond seed source at 1029 nm wavelength is constructed using a chirped-pulse fiber amplification chain based on chirped volume Bragg gratings. The combination of a fiber amplifier system and a cryogenically cooled Yb:YAG amplifier results in good spatial beam quality at large average power. Low nonlinear phase accumulation as small as 5.1 x 10(-3) rad in the bulk Yb:YAG amplifier supports power scalability to a > 10 kW level without being affected by self-phase modulation. This amplification system is well suited for pumping high-power high-repetition-rate optical parametric chirped-pulse amplifiers.     

The structure of the Mitchell order—I

We isolate here a wide class of well-founded orders called tame orders, and show that each such order of cardinality at most κ can be realized as the Mitchell order on a measurable cardinal κ, from a consistency assumption weaker than o(κ) = κ⁺.     

Electrophoretic deposition of bacterial cells

The possibility to use alternating current electrophoretic deposition (AC-EPD) to deposit living cells in the form of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli on stainless steel was assessed. The experimental results revealed that these bacteria can be successfully deposited on metallic surfaces from demineralized water and sucrose based solutions using asymmetric unbalanced electric fields. Cell viability of the deposited bacteria was influenced by the strain and deposition medium.     

Fluid polling systems

We study N-queues single-server fluid polling systems, where a fluid is continuously flowing into the queues at queue-dependent rates. When visiting and serving a queue, the server reduces the amount of fluid in the queue at a queue-dependent rate. Switching from queue i to queue j requires two random-duration steps: (i) departing queue i, and (ii) reaching queue j. The length of time the server resides in a queue depends on the service regime. We consider three main regimes: Exhaustive, Gated, and Globally-Gated. Two polling procedures are analyzed: (i) cyclic and (ii) probabilistic. Under steady-state, we derive the Laplace–Stieltjes transform (LST), mean, and second moment of the amount of flow at each queue at polling instants, as well as at an arbitrary moment. We further calculate the LST and mean of the “waiting time” of a drop at each queue and derive expressions for the mean total load in the system for the various service regimes. Finally, we explore optimal switching procedures.     

The effects of gamma irradiation on non-isothermal crystallization kinetics and microhardness of the Li<Subscript>2</Subscript>O–Al<Subscript>2</Subscript>O<Subscript>3</Subscript>–SiO<Subscript>2</Subscript> glass–ceramic

The effects of gamma irradiation on crystallization kinetics and microhardness properties of the Li₂O–Al₂O₃–SiO₂ (LAS) glass–ceramic sample have been investigated. The glass–ceramic was irradiated to γ-source ⁶⁰Co of 0.7 MGy. The crystallization kinetics of the irradiated and non-irradiated samples were characterized using differential scanning calorimetry. The crystallization kinetics and microhardness properties of the glass–ceramic changed the gamma irradiation, and the high dose of gamma irradiation affects significantly the crystallization kinetics and microhardness properties of the Li₂O–Al₂O₃–SiO₂ glass–ceramic sample.     

Apatite type lanthanum silicate and composite anode half cells

Apatite type rare earth silicates are being extensively studied as electrolyte material for intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC). In this paper we presents results on synthesis of Al and/or Fe-doped ATLS, the design of compatible anode materials, thermal expansion properties and co-sintering of half-cells from expansion matched materials using the advanced pulsed electric current sintering (PECS) technique. The issues related to the co-sintering of half cells have been addressed successfully by the combined use of nano powders and PECS.

This work addresses a basic question by Kunen: how many normal measures can there be on the least measurable cardinal? Starting with a measurable cardinal κ of Mitchell order less than two () we define a Prikry type forcing which turns the number of normal measures over κ to any while making κ the first measurable.     

Bis(2‐pyridyl­methanol)­bis­(saccharinato)­zinc(II) and ‐cadmium(II) at 120 K: three‐dimensional structures containing both N‐and O‐coordinated ambi­dentate saccharinate ligands

The title complexes [M(sac)₂(mpy)₂] [sac is saccharinate (C₇H₄NO₃S) and mpy is 2‐pyridyl­methanol (C₆H₇NO)], with M = Zn^II and Cd^II, are isostructural and consist of neutral mol­ecules. The Zn^II or Cd^II cations are octahedrally coordinated by the two neutral mpy and two anionic sac ligands. The mpy ligand acts as a bidentate donor through the amine N and hydroxyl O atoms. The sac ligands exhibit an ambidentate coordination behaviour; one is N‐coordinated and the other is O‐coordinated within the same coordination octahedron. The crystal packing is determined by C—H?O‐type hydrogen bonding, as well as by weak py–py and sac–sac aromatic π–π‐stacking interactions.
