Simulation of mass transfer in systems with isotropic pair correlation of particles

Results of a numerical analysis of mass transfer in systems of macroscopic particles with various isotropic interaction potentials are presented. Parameters that determine transport properties of nonideal dissipative systems are obtained for a broad class of model potentials. An approximate expression for the diffusivity of interacting particles is proposed. The relationship between diffusivity and viscosity is analyzed for strongly nonideal systems.     

Vacuum stability in Nambu-Jona-Lasinio models

In Nambu-Jona-Lasinio models for a dynamical breakdown of chiral symmetry, unrenormalized divergences hinder a direct comparison of vacuum energies of different solutions. The choice of a stable vacuum in the presence of several solutions to the equations for fermion masses can nevertheless be performed since, for unstable states, tachyons appear in the spectrum of composite scalar bosons.     

Synthesis of ordered Ge-Si heterostructures containing ultrasmall germanium nanoclusters

Different techniques for the fabrication of structures containing ensembles of ultrasmall germanium nanoclusters distributed with a high density over the substrate surface are discussed. How to control the morphology and ordering of these ensembles is also discussed.     

Plasmon-induced terahertz absorption and photoconductivity in a grid-gated double-quantum-well structure

The terahertz absorption spectra of plasmon modes in a grid-gated double-quantum-well field-effect transistor structure is analyzed theoretically and numerically using the scattering matrix approach and is shown to faithfully reproduce strong resonant features of recent experimental observations of terahertz photo-conductivity in such a structure.     

Attenuation of electromagnetic waves in a semiconductor superlattice in a magnetic field

Magnetoplasma waves and inhomogeneous (complex) waves in an infinite semiconductor superlattice in a magnetic field are studied, and dispersion curves are obtained. It is shown analytically and numerically that, in periodic structures, among inhomogeneous waves, there are many complex waves for which the imaginary part of the wave vector is greater than the real part. The effect of dissipation in a medium on the dispersion curves of magnetoplasma waves is examined. The dependence of the minimum phase velocity on the collision frequency and the magnetic field strength is studied.     

Influence of the skin effect on the absorption of electromagnetic radiation by a fine metal particle

The cross section of absorption of electromagnetic radiation by a fine spherical metal particle is calculated. The influence of the skin effect on the absorption cross-section is estimated for an arbitrary ratio between the free path and size of the particle. The results of this work are compared with those obtained earlier in the framework of classical electrodynamics. It is shown that taking into account the kinetic effects modifies essentially the known data for the skin effect in a spherical particle.     

Determination of the glueball mass spectrum with allowance for spin-orbital interactions

The mass spectrum of a coupled state is analytically determined. The mechanism of production of a constituent mass of particles forming a coupled state is explained. The change of the coupled state and constituent particle component masses attendant to changes of the coupling constant is analyzed. Thermoelectric effects in layered conductors in a strong magnetic field

Thermoelectric effects are investigated theoretically in layered conductors with a quasi-two-dimensional electron energy spectrum of arbitrary type in a strong magnetic field. It is shown that, at temperatures sufficiently low for quantization of the orbital motion of charge carriers in a magnetic field to be required, there exist giant quantum oscillations of the thermoelectric field. Thermoelectric emf is studied as a f unction of the orientation of the magnetic field with respect to the layers; experimental investigation of this function allows one to determine the velocity distribution of conduction electrons on the Fermi surface.
