The eight-states ferroelectric model with geometrically coupled t1u-modes in α-indium monochloride

The InCl₆-octahedra in α-InCl are treated with an eight-states ferroelectric model, in which only one symmetry mode of t_1u-symmetry, consisting solely of Cl-dependents, is considered. The stacking problem of t_1u-distorted trigonal octahedra is translated into an energy minimum problem of other modes, which are induced by the stacking. After some refinement, two structures are found, one of which resembles α-InCl. Indium shifts from their idealized rocksalt positions can be understood from a consideration of the exchange repulsion between the polarized In-ion and its ligands.     

Determination of photopeak energy in instrumental neutron activation analysis

The precision and accuracy of the peak energy allocation in γ-ray spectrometry govern the subsequent computer processing of the data. By applying the main procedures for peak energy determination to a well-defined case, it is possible to define the minimal statistical uncertainties to be expected. The systematic bias of the energies obtained is caused mainly by changes in the total count rate. A correction can be applied based on the pulser peak. From the precision and the accuracy of the peak energy determination, the scanning width for automatic peak indexing follows.     

Backward K10 production in the reaction π−p→Λ0K+π− at 9 and 12 GeV/c

We have analysed about 85 000 fast Λ⁰ events, obtained in a fast proton triggered experiment performed at the CERN-Ω spectrometer at 9 and 12 GeV/c incident π^? beam. Nearly 2500 Λ⁰K⁺π^? events have been isolated. We find strong production of quasi-two-body processes $\text{Λ}{}^0\text{K}{}^{10}$ and $\text{∑}{}^{\mathrm{1?}}\text{K}{}^{\mathrm{+}}$ consistent with u-channel hyperon exchange. Results on Λ⁰ polarization, K¹⁰ decay parameters and differential cross sections are given for $\text{Λ}{}^0\text{K}{}^{10}\text{(892)}$ and $\text{Λ}{}^0\text{K}{}^{10}\text{(1430)}$ final states. A comparison is made with the associated backward $\text{Λ}{}^0\text{(1520)}\text{K}{}^{10}$ production seen in the four-prong reaction π^?p→pK^?K⁺π^? obtained in the same experiment.
