Ion-carrier controlled precipitation of calcium phosphate in giant ABA triblock copolymer vesicles

An ionophore assisted metal-ion transport across block copolymer membranes has been used to control the local Ca2+ concentration during precipitation of calcium phosphate in giant block copolymer vesicles.     

Multistep energy transfer in single molecular photonic wires

We demonstrate the synthesis and spectroscopic characterization of an unidirectional photonic wire based on four highly efficient fluorescence energy-transfer steps (FRET) between five spectrally different chromophores covalently attached to double-stranded DNA. The DNA-based modular conception enables the introduction of various chromophores at well-defined positions and arbitrary interchromophore distances. While ensemble fluorescence measurements show overall FRET efficiencies between 15 and 30%, single-molecule spectroscopy performed on four spectrally separated detectors easily uncovers subpopulations that exhibit overall FRET efficiencies of up to approximately 90% across a distance of 13.6 nm and a spectral range of approximately 200 nm. Fluorescence trajectories of individual photonic wires show five different fluorescence intensity patterns which can be ascribed to successive photobleaching events.     

After-effects of Auger ionization following electron capture in organic 125iodine compounds

The emission Mössbauer spectra of ¹²⁵I labeled iodobenzene, methyl iodide, and of their dilute solutions in benzene and hexane, were computer analyzed. Two species were observed, in one of which tellurium is presumably attached to two organic moieties, while in the other, tellurium is attached to a single organic moiety.     

Alkyl and stannyl radical generation by CSn and SnSn bond dissociation in photolytically excited peralkylated tristannanes as studied by ESR and 119Sn-CIDNP

Tristannanes used as photochemical precursors for the synthesis of organic compounds react via triplet states followed by homolytic CSn and SnSn bond scission.     

Ramsey families which exclude a graph

For graphsA andB the relationA(B) _r ¹ means that for everyr-coloring of the vertices ofA there is a monochromatic copy ofB inA. Forb (G) is the family of graphs which do not embedG. A familyof graphs is Ramsey if for all graphsBthere is a graphAsuch thatA(B) _r ¹ . The only graphsG for which it is not known whether Forb (G) is Ramsey are graphs which have a cutpoint adjacent to every other vertex except one. In this paper we prove for a large subclass of those graphsG, that Forb (G) does not have the Ramsey property.This research has been supported in part by NSERC grant 69-1325.
