Determination of oil contents from eight varieties of olea europaea (Olive) grown in Pakistan

Abstract

The olive (Olea europaea L.) is a worldwide famous tree crop having valuable commercial role due to nutritional as well as therapeutic benefits obtained from its edible oil. Eight varieties of Olea europaea L. fruits were obtained from three Agricultural research institutes located in different areas of Pakistan including Quetta, Lorallia and Zhob to extract and determine their oil contents by conventional method as solvent extraction (soxhlet apparatus). Statistical analysis showed significant (p?=?0.002) difference in oil composition of collected plants. Highest amount (percentage) of oil was obtained from Gemlik variety (65%) from Lorallia and lowest oil content from Dolece-agogia variety (17.5%) collected from Quetta. Further research is under consideration to rule out best suitable factors including some soil and environmental factors to obtained more potential cultivars of Olea europaea in Pakistan.

Solubility products,thermodynamic functions and stability constants for the praseodymium and ytterbium fluoride — Water systems

The solubility products and thermodynamic functions for the praseodymium and ytterbium fluoride-water systems have been measured using different analytical techniques for comparison among the measured values as well as with values reported in literature. Although there is not much difference among our values obtained by potentiometric, conductometric and radiometric methods, the values for PrF₃ disagree with at least two of the reported values. The effects of precipitant, aging of the precipitate and pH of the saturated solutions on the solubility product were studied and found to be significant. The standard enthalpy and free energy changes for the dissolution of both fluorides were found to be positive although the enthalpy for YbF₃ is about twice as high as that for PrF₃. The standard entropy change for PrF₃ is negative, but that for YbF₃ is positive. The overall stability constants for the mono- and difluoride complexes of both Pr and Yb have also been measured potentiometrically using a simplified approach.     

Short-term effects of sound exposure on the 2f1-f2 acoustic emission

The 2f1-f2 acoustic emission (AE) was recorded in the ear canals of cats following exposure to tone bursts of 200-ms duration. Exposures known to result in short-term adaptation (i.e., adaptation lasting under 1 s) at the level of the auditory nerve failed to produce significant post-exposure changes in AE amplitude. Given the apparent cochlear origin of the 2f1-f2 AE, this result is consistent with the view that short-term adaptation in the auditory periphery does not involve substantial changes in cochlear mechanics.

Reaction between alkyl isocyanides and dialkyl acetylenedicarboxylates in the presence of N-alkyl isatins: convenient synthesis of γ-spiro-iminolactones

The highly reactive 1:1 intermediate generated in the reaction between an alkyl isocyanide and a dialkyl acetylenedicarboxylate is trapped by N-alkyl isatin to yield iminolactones in fairly high yields.     

Multivalued general equilibrium problems

In this paper, we use the auxiliary principle technique to suggest some new classes of iterative algorithms for solving multivalued equilibrium problems. The convergence of the proposed methods either requires partially relaxed strongly monotonicity or pseudomonotonicity. As special cases, we obtain a number of known and new results for solving various classes of equilibrium and variational inequality problems. Since multivalued equilibrium problems include equilibrium, variational inequality and complementarity problems as specials cases, our results continue to hold for these problems.
