The effect of dicationic gemini surfactants H33C16(CH3)2N+‐(CH2)s‐N+(CH3)2 C16H33, 2Br? (s= 4, 5, 6) on the reaction of a dipeptide glycyl–tyrosine (Gly–Tyr) with ninhydrin has been studied spectrophotometrically at 70°C and pH 5.0. The reaction follows first‐ and fractional‐order kinetics, respectively, in [Gly–Tyr] and [ninhydrin]. The gemini surfactant micellar media are comparatively more effective than their single chain–single head counterpart cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) micelles. Whereas typical rate constant (kΨ) increase and leveling‐off regions, just like CTAB, are observed with geminis, the latter produces a third region of increasing kΨ at higher concentrations. This subsequent increase is ascribed to the change in the micellar morphology of the geminis. The pseudophase model of micelles was used to quantitatively analyze the kΨ ? Organic thermoelectric materials have gained a trajectory in recent years given its advantages of processability, low cost and flexibility. In this paper, polymer electrolyte liquid crystal (PELC) mixtures composed of polyvinyl alcohol, potassium iodide, and 4-Cyano-4'-pentylbiphenyl (5CB) liquid crystal are fabricated, the 5CB acts as a ‘temperature switch’, i.e., a strong correlation between the thermoelectric properties and the transition from Ne-Iso transition of the 5CB, is observed. The electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient of the PELC mixtures both decrease above the Ne-Iso transition temperature. This thermoelectric behavior is discussed in terms of the carrier concentration, carrier mobility, and order-disorder transition.  相似文献

The mechanism behind the cytoprotective potential of cerium oxide nanoparticles (CeO2 NPs) against cytotoxic nitric oxide (NO) donors and H2O2 is still not clear. Synthesized and characterized CeO2 NPs significantly ameliorated the lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced cytokines IL-1β and TNF-α. The main goal of this study was to determine the capacities of NPs regarding signaling effects that could have occurred due to reactive oxygen species (ROS) and/or NO, since NP-induced ROS/NO did not lead to toxicity in HUVE cells. Concentrations that induced 50% cell death (i.e., IC50s) of two NO donors (DETA-NO; 1250 ± 110 µM and sodium nitroprusside (SNP); 950 ± 89 µM) along with the IC50 of H2O2 (120 ± 7 µM) were utilized to evaluate cytoprotective potential and its underlying mechanism. We determined total ROS (as a collective marker of hydrogen peroxide, superoxide radical (O2•−), hydroxyl radical, etc.) by DCFH-DA and used a O2•− specific probe DHE to decipher prominent ROS. The findings revealed that signaling effects mediated mainly by O2•− and/or NO are responsible for the amelioration of toxicity by CeO2 NPs at 100 µg/mL. The unaltered effect on mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) due to NP exposure and, again, CeO2 NPs-mediated recovery in the loss of MMP due to exogenous NO donors and H2O2 suggested that NP-mediated O2•− production might be extra-mitochondrial. Data on activated glutathione reductase (GR) and unaffected glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activities partially explain the mechanism behind the NP-induced gain in GSH and persistent cytoplasmic ROS. The promoted antioxidant capacity due to non-cytotoxic ROS and/or NO production, rather than inhibition, by CeO2 NP treatment may allow cells to develop the capacity to tolerate exogenously induced toxicity.  相似文献

This paper reports on the comprehensive characterisation of heat treated kenaf fibre (KF) and its composites. The kenaf fibres were modified by heating for 2.5–12.5 h inside a drying oven. Heat treatment produces an increase in the crystallinity index and fibre strength of KF. The highest value of KF strength was recorded by applying heat treatment of 10 h on KF. The heat treatment results in the partial removal of impurities/extractives on the KF surface which is detected by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Atomic force microscopy results signify the decrease of roughness, the increase in peak area density and the increase of the adhesion force on the surface area of heat treated KF. The effect of the heat treatment in enhancing the interface bonding characteristics between the KF and unsaturated polyester matrix can be reflected by the interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) and dynamic mechanical analysis value of the composites. The flexural properties of the composites showed a similar trend to ILSS. However, the fracture toughness revealed contrasting results. Water absorption induced a drastic loss of the mechanical properties of the composites albeit better retention of properties was observed in the case of heat-treated KF composites.  相似文献

A series of moderately conducting and soluble copolymers of poly(aniline-co-o-bromoaniline) (PA-co-o-BrA) having different compositions was obtained by in the situ copolymerization method using different concentrations of monomer units of aniline and o-bromoaniline in the feed. The physio-chemical properties of the copolymers have been studied with sophisticated instrumental techniques. The electrochemical study of the copolymers was conducted by cyclic voltammetry. The band gap of the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) of the copolymers was evaluated by UV-vis spectroscopy. The morphological study was conducted by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy at high magnification which shows non-uniform tubular to globular morphology of the copolymers. Surface profiles of the polymers were studied by AFM analyses, and it has confirmed the smooth surface of the copolymers while the homopolymers possesses non-uniform surfaces. The particle size distribution curve indicates that the particle sizes vary in the range of 5 to 9000 nm, and a small fraction of particles possess a size in the range of 5–10 nm.  相似文献

The structural, electronic and optical properties for fluoro-perovskite NaXF3 (X?=?Ca and Sr) compounds have calculated by WIEN2k code based on full potential linearized augmented plane wave (FP-LAPW) approach within density functional theory (DFT). To perform the total energy calculations, exchange-correlation energy/potential functional has been utilized into generalized gradient approximation (GGA) and local density approximation (LDA). Our evaluated results like equilibrium lattice constants, bulk moduli, and their pressure derivatives are in agreement with the available data. The electronic band structure calculation has revealed an indirect band-gap nature of NaCaF3, while NaSrF3 has direct band gap. Total and partial densities of states confirm the degree of localized electrons in different bands. The optical transitions in NaCaF3 and NaSrF3 compounds were identified by assigning corresponding peaks obtained from the dispersion relation for the imaginary part of the dielectric function. The thermodynamic properties were calculated using quasi-harmonic Debye model to account lattice vibrations. In addition, the influence of temperature and pressure effects was analyzed on bulk modulus, lattice constant, heat capacities and Debye temperature.  相似文献
