The Hyogo Ion Beam Medical Center was constructed in 2001 as the world’s first charged particle radiotherapy center where both proton and carbon-ion radiotherapy can be performed. From April 2001 to February 2007, more than 1,400 patients with a variety of cancers were treated. Most of the tumors except for prostate cancer were considered hard to cure with standard treatments such as surgery or conventional x-ray radiotherapy. The clinical results obtained so far are very encouraging, mainly due to the excellent dose localization to the tumor and strong cell killing effects of protons and carbon-ions. The good indications are localized tumors including skull base tumors, head and neck tumors, cancers of the lung, the liver, and the prostate, and bone and soft tissue sarcomas. Charged particle radiotherapy will significantly improve the quality of life of cancer patients and promote their speedy return to normal lives or work if it is used for early stage cancer. 相似文献

Anionic polymerization of methacrylates under sterically confined environment in a spherical beads‐shaped networked polystyrene (NwPS) matrix is described. The initiator used herein is a samarium (Sm) (III) enolate, which was formed by treatment of 2‐bromoisobutylate immobilized in the side chain of NwPS with Sm (II) iodide. By using this NwPS‐bound initiator, polymerization of a series of methacrylates (=solid‐supported polymerization) was studied to find its two aspects: (1) In the early stages, the rate constant for each methacrylate was comparable to that for its conventional solution‐phase polymerization using a Sm (III) enolate, suggesting that methacrylate can be efficiently supplied to the propagating end by its free permeation without any interference by the networked structure of the matrix. (2) After the early stages, the rate constant decreased remarkably, implying that permeation of methacrylate was sterically interfered by the formed poly(methacrylate) that filled the confined space in NwPS, as supported by a SEM image of the resulting beads, of which pores were filled with the formed polymers. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Various star‐shaped poly(phenoxy propylene sulfide)s (PPSs) bearing curable end groups were synthesized by the functionalization of the propagating ends of star‐shaped poly(PPS) with various electrophilies. The functionalization with chloromethyl styrene proceeded quantitatively, and afforded polymers with Mn almost agreed with theoretical value and narrow Mw/Mn. The photocuring conditions were optimized, and the addition of 10 wt % of poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate was effective to attain sufficient crosslinking. The photocuring reaction of the end‐functionalized poly(PPS) films cast on silicon wafers was conducted by UV irradiation. The cured poly (PPS)s became insoluble in THF, supporting the sufficient crosslinking. Developing of a cured polymer yielded a negative photoresist pattern. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Maskless laser patterning of indium tin oxide (ITO) thin films was studied by the use of a diode-pumped Q-switched Nd:YLF laser. The ITO films were sputter-deposited either on lime glass, the standard substrate material for flat panel display applications, or fused quartz so that the efficiency of laser patterning as a function of substrate absorption could be studied. The laser wavelength was varied among infrared (5=1047 nm), visible (5=523 nm), and ultraviolet (5=349 nm and 5=262 nm). It is observed that strong light absorption by the substrate is a crucial requirement for a residue-free patterning of the ITO film. Observations and numerical calculations of the laser-induced surface temperature indicate that material removal occurs via thermal vaporization and that other mechanisms such as photochemical decomposition or spallation can be neglected. 相似文献

A facile new method that combines electrospray and hydrothermal treatment is used to prepare mesoporous core-shell TiO(2) spheres with high specific surface areas and high pore volumes. Interestingly, the resulting TiO(2) spheres are composed of anatase TiO(2) nanocrystals with exposed step-like {001} and smooth {010} facets. The percentage of exposed {001} facets can be adjusted by changing the experimental parameters used in the electrospray and hydrothermal treatment processes, such as the contents of poly(N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) and acetic acid. The combination of high specific surface area (>100 m(2) g(-1)), high pore volume (>0.30 cm(3) g(-1)), useful pore size (10-15 nm), spherical core-shell structure, and exposed high energy facets makes these TiO(2) spheres an important candidate for use in many photoelectrochemical applications. The formation mechanism of the mesoporous TiO(2) spheres is also studied. Exposure of 3-phenylpropyl ethers to an activated iodosylbenzene monomer·18-crown-6 complex [PhI(OH)BF(4)·18C6] in the presence of BF(3)-Et(2)O and water results in the para-selective monofluorination of benzene ring via neighboring alkoxy group participation and directly affords 3-(4-fluorophenyl)propyl ethers regioselectively in good yields. 相似文献
