The yields of neutrons from the reaction 25Mg(α, n)28Si and of γ-rays from the reaction 25Mg(α, nγ)28Si have been measured as a function of bombarding energy over the range 1.8–6.3 MeV, and the yield of neutrons from 26Mg(α, n)29Si has been measured over the range 1.8–6.0 MeV. Cross sections for 25, 26Mg(α, n)28, 29Si were extracted from the data and compared with global statistical-model calculations. The agreement is very good. Thermonuclear reaction rates under stellar conditions appropriate for explosive neon burning are calculated and their significance for the nucleosynthesis of rare neutron-rich nuclei is discussed.  相似文献

We describe Monte Carlo simulations of resonance energy transfer (RET) experiments for immobile donor (D) and acceptor (A) dyes confined to planar, cylindrical, and spherical restricted geometries. We compare values of the quantum efficiency (PhiET) evaluated through consideration of individual donor-acceptor pairs, with values calculated assuming a pre-averaged value of the orientation parameter /kappa/2 = 0.476 appropriate for infinite three dimensional (3D) space. For dyes confined to restricted geometries where the length scale of the confining dimension is less than or equal to the F?rster radius R0, the coupling of the orientation parameter and the donor-acceptor distance becomes noticeable. Values of Phi(ET) obtained by proper consideration of the orientation parameter are smaller than those calculated using /kappa/2 = 0.476. We use this Monte Carlo method to reanalyze the fluoresce decay measured from dye-labeled poly(isoprene-b-methyl methacrylate) diblock copolymer with lamellar structure,(1) from which the interface thickness for PI-PMMA lamella can be retrieved. We found the retrieved interface thickness is sensitive to the choice of dipole orientation. If all dipoles in the confined polymer interface have a random orientation, the value of interface thickness was found to be 0.9 +/- 0.2 nm through consideration of individual dipole orientations. Assumption of /kappa/2 = 0.476 in the FRET calculations leads to a larger value of interface thickness (1.3 +/- 0.2 nm) due to the neglect of the coupling between dipole orientation and D-A distance for the dyes confined to lamellar interfaces.  相似文献

We present small-angle neutron scattering data proving that, on the insulating side of the metal-insulator transition, the doped perovskite cobaltite La(1-x)Sr(x)CoO(3) phase separates into ferromagnetic metallic clusters embedded in a nonferromagnetic matrix. This induces a hysteretic magnetoresistance, with temperature and field dependence characteristic of intergranular giant magnetoresistance (GMR). We argue that this system is a natural analog to the artificial structures fabricated by depositing nanoscale ferromagnetic particles in a metallic or insulating matrix; i.e., this material displays a GMR effect without the deliberate introduction of chemical interfaces.  相似文献

A system of DNA "tiles" that is designed to assemble to form two-dimensional arrays is observed to form narrow ribbons several micrometers in length. The uniform width of the ribbons and lack of frayed edges lead us to propose that they are arrays that have curled and closed on themselves to form tubes. Voice onset time (VOT) signifies the interval between consonant onset and the start of rhythmic vocal-cord vibrations. Differential perception of consonants such as /d/ and /t/ is categorical in American English, with the boundary generally lying at a VOT of 20-40 ms. This study tests whether previously identified response patterns that differentially reflect VOT are maintained in large-scale population activity within primary auditory cortex (A1) of the awake monkey. Multiunit activity and current source density patterns evoked by the syllables /da/ and /ta/ with variable VOTs are examined. Neural representation is determined by the tonotopic organization. Differential response patterns are restricted to lower best-frequency regions. Response peaks time-locked to both consonant and voicing onsets are observed for syllables with a 40- and 60-ms VOT, whereas syllables with a 0- and 20-ms VOT evoke a single response time-locked only to consonant onset. Duration of aspiration noise is represented in higher best-frequency regions. Representation of VOT and aspiration noise in discrete tonotopic areas of A1 suggest that integration of these phonetic cues occurs in secondary areas of auditory cortex. Findings are consistent with the evolving concept that complex stimuli are encoded by synchronized activity in large-scale neuronal ensembles.  相似文献

The synthesis and directed dihydroxylation of a range of cyclic alkenes was investigated. Both homoallylic alcohols and homoallylic trihaloacetamides were found to be efficient directing groups, giving rise to good to excellent levels of remote asymmetric induction with OsO4-TMEDA. Interestingly, in all cases examined, trifluoroacetamides were found to be superior to trichloroacetamides as directing groups and an argument is presented which rationalises this observation.  相似文献
