Improved spectrophotometric determination of osmium(VIII) with 4-(2-pyridylazo) resorcinol in mixed surfactants

The colour development between 4-(2-pyridylazo)-resorcinol(PAR) and osmium(VIII) in the presence of cationic and nonionic surfactants in a weakly acidic medium was more stable and reproducible than in the absence of surfactant (PAR-alone method). An improved spectrophotometric determination of osmium(VIII) with PAR was investigated in the presence of mixed surfactants of N-hexadecyltrimethylammonium chloride (HTAC) and Brij 58 [poly(oxyethylene)lauryl ether] as cationic and nonionic surfactants at pH 6.0-7.2. The calibration graph was linear in the range 0-110 microg/10 ml osmium(VIII), and the apparent molar absorptivity was 2.4 x 10(4) l.mole(-1).cm(-1) with a Sandell sensitivity of 0.0079 microg/cm(2) osmium(VIII).     

Structures of americanol A and isoamericanol A having a neurotrophic property from the seeds of Phytolacca americana.

The structures of new neo-lignans, isoamericanol A (1) and americanol A (2) isolated from the seeds of Phytolacca americana have been elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data and then confirmed by chemical correlation with the previously known isoamericanin A (3) and americanin A (4). Isoamericanol A, americanol A, and americanin A have been found to enhance choline acetyltransferase activity at 10(-5) M in a cultured neuronal cell system derived from fetal rat hemisphere.     

Synthesis,structure, and magnetic properties of the cobalt(<Emphasis Type="SmallCaps">II</Emphasis>) 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate layered coordination polymer

The reaction of Co(NO₃)₂·6H₂O with 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid (H₃btc, trimesic acid) in DMF at 100 °C afforded the coordination polymer [Co₃(dmf)₆(btc)(Hbtc)(H₂btc)]··9H₂O (1) (dmf is N,N′-dimethylformamide, DMF). According to the X-ray diffraction study, the metal-organic coordination polymer is composed of planar honeycomb (6,3) networks, in which the organic benzenetricarboxylate anions and the inorganic Co²⁺ cations play a role of three-connected nodes. Disordered water molecules are intercalated between the layers. A study of the magnetic properties showed the presence of a weak antiferromagnetic coupling between the Co²⁺ ions (S = 3/2). Synthetic studies toward maytansinoids (2) a new strategy based on asymmetric induction by heteroconjugate addition of methyllithium onto pyranosyl hetero-olefins

The functionalized pyranosyl hetero-olefins $\text{4a}$, $\text{13}$ and $\text{15}$ received a remarkable diastereoselective addition of methyllithium to form $\text{threo}$ adducts, one of which was introduced into a possible synthetic intermediate as $\text{3}$ for maytansine ($\text{1}$) along Scheme I.     

Fock representations of the affine Lie algebraA 1 (1)

The aim of this note is to show that the affine Lie algebraA ₁ ⁽¹⁾ has a natural family _, ,v of Fock representations on the spaceC[x _i,y _j;i andj ], parametrized by (,v) C ². By corresponding the highest weight _, of _, to each (,), the parameter spaceC ₂ forms a double cover of the weight spaceC₀C –₁ with singularities at linear forms of level –2; this number is (–1)-times the dual Coxeter number. Our results contain explicit realizations of irreducible non-integrable highest wieghtA ₁ ⁽¹⁾ -modules for generic (,v).     

Polyamine polymers from active hydrogen compounds,formaldehyde, and amines

Active hydrogen compounds such as hydroquinone (HQ), cyclohexanone (CH), acetophenone (AP), and 4,4′-methylene bis-N-methylaniline (MNA) polymerized with formaldehyde (F) and secondary diamines to produce Mannich base polyamine polymers. The HQ-containing polymers were oxidized to benzoquinone (BQ)-containing polymers and their redox properties were investigated in the desulfurization of hydrogen sulfide.
