Sensitive and selective determination of mercury by differential pulse stripping voltammetry after accumulation of mercury vapour on a gold plated graphite electrode

 A selective and sensitive method is proposed for the determination of mercury by anodic stripping voltammetry after its preconcentration from the gas phase. Mercury from the sample solution is reduced to elemental Hg by SnCl₂ and volatilized by the bubbles of a carrier gas. The gas containing mercury vapour is dried and passed through a capillary onto a gold coated graphite electrode. An anodic stripping voltammogram is recorded from 0.1 mol/l HClO₄+3×10^-3 mol/l HCl solution. The calibration curve is linear from 1×10^-9 to 4×10^-8 mol/l Hg(NO₃)₂. The absolute detection limit is 0.46 ng Hg. The relative standard deviations for 4×10^-9 mol/l and 2×10^-8 mol/l Hg(NO₃)₂ are 9.8% and 6.1%, respectively (n=5). Polymerization and Copolymerization of Some Monomers as Adducts with β-Cyclodextrin

The feasibility of chemical bond formation, especially in the chain-transfer reaction between polymer and β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) molecules in the products of the radiation polymerization of β-CD with vinylidene chloride (VDC) its adducts has been considered. The lack of these bonds in the polymerization products of similar β-CD adducts with methyl methacrylate (MM), styrene (St), a mixture of VDC and allyl chloride (AC) and a mixture of VDC and MM (10:90 molar ratio) has been established. On the basis of the results obtained the lack of chemical bonds in the polymerization product of β-CD· VDC adduct is suggested.     

Reactions of Nucleophiles with Nitroarenes: Multifacial and Versatile Electrophiles

In this overview, it is shown that there are many initial reactions between nitroarenes and nucleophiles: addition to the electron‐deficient ring at positions occupied by halogen and hydrogen atoms, addition to the nitro group, single‐electron transfer (SET), and other types of initial reactions. The resulting intermediates react further in a variety of ways to form products of nucleophilic substitution of a halogen atom (S_NAr), a hydrogen atom (S_NArH), and others. Many variants of these processes are briefly discussed, particularly in relation of rates of the initial reactions and further transformations.

In this paper we prove the above result within a more general theory of related estimates.     

Physical adsorption of gases on energetically heterogeneous solids I. GeneralizedLangmuir equation and its energy distribution

A generalizedLangmuir equation is proposed for describing the monolayer adsorption of single gases on heterogeneous solids. The special cases of this equation are:Langmuir-Freundlich, Tóth andFreundlich type adsorption isotherms. The energy distribution function corresponding to this equation produces all types of simple energy distributions, i.e., symmetrical distribution, decreasing exponential distributions and asymmetrical distributions showing widening in the directions of low and high adsorption energies.

Zusammenfassung Es wird eine generalisierteLangmuir-Gleichung zur Beschreibung der einlagigen Adsorption eines einzelnen Gases auf heterogenen Feststoffen beschrieben. Die speziellen Fälle dieser Gleichung sind:Langmuir-Freundlich-, Tóth- undFreundlich-Typ der Adsorptionsisotherme. Die Energieverteilung, die dieser Gleichung entspricht, gibt alle Typen einer einfachen Verteilung wieder, z. B. eine symmetrische Verteilung, eine abfallende exponentielle Verteilung und asymmetrische Verteilungen mit Erweiterung in die Richtung von niedriger oder hoher Adsorptionsenergie.

     

Diastereoselective synthesis of tetrahydrofurans via reaction of gamma,delta-epoxycarbanions with aldehydes

[reaction: see text] Hydroxymethyl-substituted tetrahydrofurans were prepared with high diastereoselectivity by reaction of the carbanion derived from 3,4-epoxybutyl phenyl sulfone with aldehydes in the presence of a mixture of lithium and potassium tert-butoxides. Initial formation of aldol-type adducts is a nondiastereoselective but reversible process; thus, subsequent formation of one main diastereoisomer is controlled by the relative rates of cyclization. The configuration of the carbon stereocenter at the oxirane ring is inverted in the course of the S(N)2 process, and two new centers are created diastereoselectively.     

The complexity of some acyclic improper colourings

In this paper we will consider acyclic bipartition of the vertices of graphs, where acyclic means that the edges whose endpoints are in different parts of the partition induce a forest. We will require that the vertices belonging to the same partition induce graphs from particular class. We will search for acyclic bipartitions of cubic and subcubic graphs.
