The interaction of the low-order antisymmetric (a0) and symmetric (s0) Lamb waves with vertical cracks in aluminum plates is studied. Two types of slots are considered: (a) internal crack symmetrical with respect to the middle plane of the plate and (b) opening crack. The modal decomposition method is used to predict the reflection and transmission coefficients and also the through-thickness displacement fields on both sides of slots of various heights. The model assumes strip plates and cracks, thus considering two-dimensional plane strain conditions. However, mode conversion (a0 into s0 and vice versa) that occurs for single opening cracks is considered. The energy balance is always calculated from the reflection and transmission coefficients, in order to check the validity of the results. These coefficients together with the through-thickness displacement fields are also compared to those predicted using a finite element code widely used in the past for modeling Lamb mode diffraction problems. Experiments are also made for measuring the reflection and transmission coefficients for incident a0 or s0 lamb modes on opening cracks, and compared to the numerical predictions.  相似文献

Flat channel asymmetrical flow field-flow fractionation with multi-angle light scattering (MALS) detection was used to study the swelling behaviour of core-shell particles with either carboxylated or hydroxylated shells as a function of pH and ionic strength. The equilibration time of the most heavily carboxylated core-shells appeared to be of the order of several hours. At low ionic strength (5 mM), the carboxylated core-shells showed a definite swelling response to a change in pH in the range from 5 to 10, ranging from a hydrodynamic radius increase of 24 to 118%, depending on the degree of carboxylation. A much milder response was found for the change of the root mean square (r.m.s.) radius as measured with MALS, indicating that the scattering plane is moving inwards during the swelling process due to a decreasing density of the shell. The hydroxylated core-shells appeared to be inert to a change in pH. Also the response of two expanded (pH 10) carboxylated core-shells on increasing ionic strength was studied. Comparison of the results of these ionic strength experiments with theoretical predictions based on Donnan equilibrium led us to the conclusion that a significant amount of counter-ion condensation may take place in the shells.  相似文献

Imine 7 of 1,4-cyclohexanedione mono-ethylene ketal 6 was reacted with maleic anhydride, affording the cyclized adduct 8. Methyl esterification of 8, accompanied by transacetalization, led to the dihydrooxindole derivative 10. Aromatization of 10 was then accomplished with POCl(3), leading directly to the key-intermediate title compound 11 in 74% yield from ketone 6. Our recent developments concerning the fabrication of polymer microchips and their applications for biochemical analyses are reviewed. We first describe two methods of fabrication of polymer microfluidic chips, namely UV-laser photoablation and plasma etching that are well suited for the prototyping and mass fabrication of microchannel networks with integrated microelectrodes. These microanalytical systems can be coupled with various detection means including mass spectrometry, and their applications in capillary electrophoresis are presented here. We also present how UV laser photoablation can be used for the patterning of biomolecules on polymer surfaces for generating two-dimensional arrays of microspots to carry out affinity assays. Finally, the use of the microchips for the development of fast affinity and immunological assays with electrochemical detection is presented, demonstrating the potential of these polymer microchips for medical diagnostics and drug discovery.  相似文献
