Square Planar (SP-4) and Octahedral (OC-6) Complexes of Platinum(II) and -(IV) with Predetermined Chirality at the Metal Center

cis-Bis-homoleptic platinum(II) complexes, with predetermined helical chirality at the metal center, can be obtained by using strongly sterically interacting ligands. With this aim, two new ligands, (8R,10R)-2-(2'-thienyl)-4,5-pinenopyridine, th4,5ppy (2), and (8R,10R)-2-(2'-thienyl)-5,6-pinenopyridine, th5,6ppy (4), were synthesized and coordinated to platinum. The structures of the resulting complexes, Pt(th4,5ppy)(2) (5) and Pt(th5,6ppy)(2) (6), were determined by X-ray diffraction, and it was found that they both crystallize with a Delta-cis configuration. Thermal oxidative additions (TOA) of alkyl halides were performed with both complexes leading, in the case of 5, to a mixture of isomers and, in the case of 6, to isomerically pure products. The predetermination of chirality at the metal center is therefore preserved in the octahedral (OC-6) platinum(IV) complexes. Crystals of Pt(th4,5ppy)(2) (5) are orthorhombic, of space group P2(1)2(1)2(1), with a = 12.973(1) ?, b = 13.619(2) ?, c = 17.665(2) ?, alpha = beta = gamma = 90 degrees, and Z = 4. Final R = 0.0268 and R(w) = 0.0424 for 3101 observed reflections. Crystals of Pt(th5,6ppy)(2) (6) are hexagonal, of space group P6(1), with a = 11.5465(4) ?, b = 11.5465(4) ?, c = 35.356(3) ?, alpha = beta = 90 degrees, gamma = 120 degrees, and Z = 6. Final R = 0.0424 and R(w) = 0.0845 for 2660 observed reflections. Neither molecule possesses a crystallographic C(2) symmetry.     

Optimisation of ICPMS collision/reaction cell conditions for the simultaneous removal of argon based interferences of arsenic and selenium in water samples

The optimisation of ICPMS collision/reaction cell conditions for the simultaneous analysis of arsenic and selenium is described. A mixture of 3.8 mL min⁻¹ of H₂ and 0.5 mL min⁻¹ of He was found to be suitable for the removal of both ArAr⁺ and ArCl⁺ interferences. Detection limits down to 30 ng (element) L⁻¹ in total analysis, and between 81 and 230 ng (element) L⁻¹ in speciation analysis were achieved in chloride matrix (1 g L⁻¹ NaCl). After validation, the method was applied to commercially available mineral waters.     

Trinuclear Schiff base complexes with uranium(V) and copper(II) or zinc(II) ions

Treatment of the uranium(IV) complexes [{ML¹(py)}₂U^IV] (M = Cu, Zn; L¹ = N,N′-bis(3-hydroxysalicylidene)-1,3-propanediamine) with silver nitrate in pyridine led to the formation of the corresponding cationic uranium(V) species which were found to be thermally unstable and were converted back into the parent U^IV complexes; no electron transfer was observed in solution between the U^IV and U^V compounds. In the crystals of [{ML¹(py)}₂U^IV][{ML¹(py)}₂U^V][NO₃], the neutral U^IV and cationic U^V species are clearly identified by the distinct U–O distances. Similar reaction of [{ZnL²(py)}₂U^IV] [L² = N,N′-bis(3-hydroxysalicylidene)-1,4-butanediamine] with AgNO₃ gave crystals of [{ZnL²(py)}U^V{ZnL²(py)₂}][NO₃] but the copper counterpart was not isolated. Crystals of [{ZnL¹(py)}₂U^V][OTf] · THF (OTf = OSO₂CF₃) were obtained fortuitously from the reaction of [Zn(H₂L¹)] and U(OTf)₃.

Summary We give a simple proof of the fact that a Radon gaussian measure on a locally convex vector space is carried by a countable union of metrisable compact sets. We show that a separable centered gaussian process with continuous covariance which is defined on a Polish space X, and is a.e. unbounded on any open set, has a.e. dense trajectories in X × . These results allow us to show that for any set I, any gaussian measure on ^I is -smooth.     

Mechanism of Formation of Peroxocarbonates RhOOC(O)O(Cl)(P)(3) and Their Reactivity as Oxygen Transfer Agents Mimicking Monooxygenases. The First Evidence of CO(2) Insertion into the O-O Bond of Rh(eta(2)-O(2)) Complexes

Extended labeling experiments have shown that formation of rhodium peroxocarbonate from CO(2) and [RhCl(eta(2)-O(2))(P)(3)] (P is PEt(2)Ph or PEtPh(2)) proceeds through O-O bond cleavage and CO(2) insertion. O-transfer to ancillary phosphine ligand to give R(3)P=O selectively (>85%) involves the Rh-linked O atom of the peroxo group of RhCl(CO(4))(P)(3).

Screening an In-House Isoquinoline Alkaloids Library for New Blockers of Voltage-Gated Na+ Channels Using Voltage Sensor Fluorescent Probes: Hits and Biases

Voltage-gated Na⁺ (Na_V) channels are significant therapeutic targets for the treatment of cardiac and neurological disorders, thus promoting the search for novel Na_V channel ligands. With the objective of discovering new blockers of Na_V channel ligands, we screened an In-House vegetal alkaloid library using fluorescence cell-based assays. We screened 62 isoquinoline alkaloids (IA) for their ability to decrease the FRET signal of voltage sensor probes (VSP), which were induced by the activation of Na_V channels with batrachotoxin (BTX) in GH3b6 cells. This led to the selection of five IA: liriodenine, oxostephanine, thalmiculine, protopine, and bebeerine, inhibiting the BTX-induced VSP signal with micromolar IC₅₀. These five alkaloids were then assayed using the Na⁺ fluorescent probe ANG-2 and the patch-clamp technique. Only oxostephanine and liriodenine were able to inhibit the BTX-induced ANG-2 signal in HEK293-hNa_V1.3 cells. Indeed, liriodenine and oxostephanine decreased the effects of BTX on Na⁺ currents elicited by the hNa_V1.3 channel, suggesting that conformation change induced by BTX binding could induce a bias in fluorescent assays. However, among the five IA selected in the VSP assay, only bebeerine exhibited strong inhibitory effects against Na⁺ currents elicited by the hNav1.2 and hNav1.6 channels, with IC₅₀ values below 10 µM. So far, bebeerine is the first BBIQ to have been reported to block Na_V channels, with promising therapeutical applications.     

Time-dependent internal Quantum Efficiency and diffusion Modulation Transfer Function of N/P photodiodes

The minority carrier continuity equation has been solved with the Green’s function approach in a N/P photodiode under the low-level injection assumption. The analytical solution obtained with this approach depends on the three spatial coordinates and on time. The diffusion and the collection of the excess minority carriers have been studied during the transitional period corresponding to very short integration times. The internal Quantum Efficiency and the diffusion Modulation Transfer Function have been calculated according to time. The simulations showed that they evolve with time until their steady-state values. When the integration time is very short, this evolution has to be taken into account for the estimation of the sensitivity of a photodiode and the contrast on an image of a sensor based on several adjacent N/P-type photodiodes.
