Tense Operators on Basic Algebras

The concept of tense operators on a basic algebra is introduced. Since basic algebras can serve as an axiomatization of a many-valued quantum logic (see e.g. Chajda et al. in Algebra Univer. 60(1):63–90, 2009), these tense operators are considered to quantify time dimension, i.e. one expresses the quantification “it is always going to be the case that” and the other expresses “it has always been the case that”. We set up the axiomatization and basic properties of tense operators on basic algebras and involve a certain construction of these operators for left-monotonous basic algebras. Finally, we relate basic algebras with tense operators with another quantum structures which are the so-called dynamic effect algebras.     

Continuous-wave mid-infrared frequency conversion in silicon nanowaveguides

We report the first demonstration of cw wavelength conversion from the telecommunications band to the mid-IR (MIR) region via four-wave mixing in silicon nanowaveguides. We measure a parametric bandwidth of 748 nm by converting a 1636 nm signal to produce a 2384 nm idler and show continuously tunable wavelength conversion from 1792 to 2116 nm. This report indicates that the advantages of silicon photonics may be leveraged to create devices for a large range of MIR applications that require cw operation.     

Phase diagrams of the mixed spin-1 and spin-1/2 Ising-Heisenberg model on the diamond-like decorated Bethe lattice

The ground-state and finite-temperature behavior of the mixed spin-1 and spin-1/2 Ising-Heisenberg model on the diamond-like decorated Bethe lattice is investigated within the framework of two rigorous methods: the decoration-iteration transformation and exact recursion relations. The model under consideration describes a hybrid classical-quantum system consisting of the Ising and Heisenberg spins, which interact among themselves either through the Ising or XXZ Heisenberg nearest-neighbor interaction. Both sublattice magnetizations of the Ising and Heisenberg spins are exactly calculated with the aim to examine phase diagrams, thermal variations of the total and sublattice magnetizations. The finite-temperature phase diagrams form continuous (second-order) phase transition lines only, which exhibit a small reentrant region if the diamond-like decorated Bethe lattice with a sufficiently high coordination number is considered.

In this paper, we state and study the problem of selecting a product mix and a dispatching rule for a jobshop system to maximize its revenue rate over an infinite planning horizon.     

On the equivalence of ball conditions for simplicial finite elements in Rd

We prove that the inscribed and circumscribed ball conditions, commonly used in finite element analysis, are equivalent in any dimension.
