Intercalation of Dyes Containing SO3H Groups into Zn–Al Layered Double Hydroxide

The intercalates of Naphthol Yellow S, Tropaeolin 000, and Tropaeolin 00 were prepared by heating [Zn_0.67Al_0.33(OH)₂](CO₃)_0.165 · 0.5H₂O with acidic forms of the dye solutions in an open reaction vessel. The intercalates were characterized by chemical and thermal analysis, X-ray powder diffraction and UV–VIS spectroscopy. A possible arrangement of the dye molecules in the intercalates was suggested on the basis of their chemical compositions and interlayer distances, by taking into account van der Waals dimensions of the guest molecules and by assuming that the structure of the host layers is not changed during the intercalation process.     

Intercalation of 1,2-Alkanediols into α-Zirconium Hydrogenphosphate

Intercalation compounds of α-Zr(HPO₄)₂ · H₂O with 1,2-alkanediols (from C3 to C16) have been prepared by replacing 1-propanol in α-Zr(HPO₄)₂ · 2C₃H₇OH with the desired 1,2-alkanediols by a treatment in a microwave field. It was found that the intercalates contain 1.5 molecules of diol per formula unit. The diol molecules are placed between the host layers in a bimolecular way with their aliphatic chains tilted at an angle of 51°. The diol molecules are anchored in the interlayer space by H-bonds. A mixed intercalate, containing 1,2-butanediol and 1,2-decanediol in a roughly equimolar ratio, is formed when the α-Zr(HPO₄)₂ · 2C₃H₇OH intercalate, suspended in a mixture of 1,2-butanediol and 1,2-decanediol, is exposed to microwave radiation. No new phase containing both types of the guest molecules was observed when the 1-propanol intercalate, suspended in a mixture of 1-propanol and 1,2-octanediol, is exposed to microwave radiation.     

Possible Mechanisms of Intercalation

Recent knowledge of the kinetics and intercalation mechanisms are summarized and accompanied by examples of intercalation reactions of water and ethanol into anhydrous vanadyl phosphate and redox intercalation of alkali metal cations into vanadyl phosphate dihydrate. Three possible mechanisms of intercalation are presented which are based on: (i) a concept of exfoliation of layers; (ii) the formation of stages and randomly stacked layers; (iii) co-existence of intercalated and non-intercalated parts of crystals of the host separated by an advancing phase boundary. The corresponding kinetic curves are ascribed to mechanisms (ii) and (iii).     

Novel 7-substituted quinolone antibacterial agents. Synthesis of 7-alkenyl,cycloalkenyl, and 1,2,3,6-tetrahydro-4-pyridinyl-1,8-naphthyridines

A convergent synthesis of 1,8-naphthyridine antibacterials bearing a carbon-carbon bonded, acyclic or cyclic vinyl substituent at the C-7 position has been achieved. The synthetic methodology is based upon the palladium-catalyzed cross coupling of a 7-chloro-1,8-naphthyridine with an appropriately substituted organotin reagent.     

Formation of thin carbon films containing metal nanoparticles by thermolysis of a polymer precursor

A new procedure was developed for preparing carbon films with magnetic metal nanoparticles by thermolysis of a polymer precursor. The conditions for preparing carbon films with required surface concentration of the metal nanoparticles and hence with dielectric or metallic properties were determined.     

An ab initio molecular orbital study of intramolecular H-bonding: 1,3 propanediol

An ab initio molecular orbital calculation has been carried out for three different conformations of 1,3 propanediol, one of which permits intramolecular H-bond studied by ab initio quantum mechanical methods. The ΔE for H-bonding formation is compated to be 0.9 kcal/mole and the charge redistributions and molecular orbital energy changes are compared to those found in intermolecular H-bonds.     

Dilithiated synthons: synthesis of cyclic ethers

Recent advances in the generation of dilithiated synthons by arene-catalyzed lithiation of the corresponding dichloro compounds in the presence of carbonyl compounds (Barbier-type reaction conditions) as the key step are described. Further cyclization of the generated diols under different reaction conditions affords a variety of mono-, bi-, and spirocyclic ethers.     

Kit for instant 99mTc labeling of the antimicrobial peptide ubiquicidin 29-41

Summary The ubiquicidin 29-41 fragment (UBI) is a cationic antimicrobial peptide. The aim of this study was to develop an instant kit formulation for the preparation of ^99mTc-UBI 29-41 in high radiochemical yield and to evaluate its use as an infection imaging agent in humans. The components were selected to produce a direct ^99mTc labeling, presumably to the amine groups of Lys and Arg7. ^99mTc-UBI 29-41 obtained from the lyophilized kit showed radiochemical purity of >97% with an average target/non-target ratio of 2.3±0.6 in positive infection sites at 2 hours. Kits were stable at 4 °C for over 6 months.     

Some Reactions of 3,6-Bis(4-amino-1,2,5-oxadiazol-3-yl)-1,4,2,5-dioxadiazine

Diazotization and nitration of 3,6-bis(4-amino-1,2,5-oxadiazol-3-yl)-1,4,2,5-dioxadiazine gave, respectively, 3,6-bis(4-azido-1,2,5-oxadiazol-3-yl)-1,4,2,5-dioxadiazine and 3,6-bis(4-nitroamino-1,2,5-oxadi-azol-3-yl)-1,4,2,5-dioxadiazine. The latter reacted with nitrogenous bases to form the corresponding salts.     

Comparison of the complexation abilities of bifunctional polysiloxane xerogels and chemically modified silica gels

Complexation of copper(II) on the surface of chemically modified silica gels and polysiloxane xerogels both containing the same functional groups, 3-aminopropyl and 3-mercaptopropyl, was studied. The composition of the complexes formed on the surface of these two classes of sorbents was determined by ESR and electronic spectroscopies.
