Hydrogel composition based on carboxymethylcellulose and agar-agar

The results are given of a study of the rheological properties of concentrated solutions of CNC and agar-agar and the influence of their quantitative ratio on the anomalous flow behavior of their solutions. Optosensing of hydrochloric acid based on the fluorescence quenching of a flavone copolymer

An optical fiber sensor for the continuous determination of hydrochloric acid is presented. It is based on the fluorescence quenching of a flavone containing copolymer membrane by hydrochloric acid. The quenching efficiency is greatly enhanced in the presence of Fe(III). This enhancement is attributed to the primary inner filter effect, as well as the formation of a complex between the 4′-N,N-dimethylaminoflavone group in the copolymer and the Fe(III) species extracted from hydrochloric acid solution. The optical response is linear and reversible for 0.10–6.00 mol L^–1 HCl with a response time of the order of a second. The standard deviations for repeated alternative measurements of 0.20 and 2.00 mol L^–1 hydrochloric acid are 0.32% and 0.46% (n = 10), respectively, indicating a good reproducibility. Because of the covalently bonding of the dye to polymer, the sensor exhibits also a good stability. Selectivity has also been evaluated for some potential interferents. The sensor in conjunction with a flow-injection system can be used for on-line determination of hydrochloric acid.     

STRIATED SOLUTIONS OF QUASILINEAR HYPERBOLIC TWO SPEED SYSTEMS

It is proved that solutions of quasilinear hyperbolic 2*2 systems in general space dimension are striated if they are so at the initial time or in the past. Results about the propagation of singularities along characteristic curves for both striated and stratified solutions are given.

Proximity effect in superconductor/ferromagnet layered system: Influence of superconductivity on magnetic properties of Nb/Fe epitaxial bilayers

Magnetic and superconducting properties of Fe/Nb epitaxial bilayers have been studied. Single crystal Fe/Nb (110) bilayers with a Nb thicknessd _Nb in the range from 250 to 650 Å and with a Fe thicknessd _Fe in the range from 7 to 27 Å were prepared using molecular beam epitaxy techniques. Magnetization measurements showed the existence of a magnetically “dead” Fe-interface layer with a thicknessd _NM varying strongly with minor modifications of the growth conditions. For bilayers with a small magnetic layer thicknessd _M and a smalld _NM the FMR measurements revealed an anomalous decrease of the effective magnetization 4πM _eff of the ferromagnetic Fe layer below the superconducting transition temperatureT _c. The absolute change of 4πM _eff belowT _c depends strongly on the actual values ofd _M andd _NM: upon decreasing bothd _M andd _NM the effect increases considerably. As a possible mechanism for the anomalous temperature dependence of 4πM _eff belowT _c we discuss a spatial modulation of ferromagnetic order due to a modification of the RKKY inter-action in the superconducting state.     

Kinetics of muonic hydrogen drift in axial symmetric geometry

The kinetics of muonic atoms of hydrogen isotopes in an axially symmetric trap is studied. The problem of the determination of the initial kinetic energy distribution of µp and µd atoms from time-of-flight spectra is discussed. The effects of the scattering of muonic atoms from gas and of the stopping distribution are evaluated. When the collision length is much larger than the target radius, the moments of the kinetic energy distribution are shown to be determined by the time-of-flight spectrum in a model-independent way.
