A purely algebraic characterization of the hyperreal numbers

The hyperreal numbers of nonstandard analysis are characterized in purely algebraic terms as homomorphic images of a suitable class of rings of functions.

     

A Borsuk–Ulam Theorem for Maps from a Sphere to a Generalized Manifold

H. J. Munkholm obtained a generalization for topological manifolds of the famous Borsuk–Ulam type theorem proved by Conner and Floyd. The purpose of this paper is to prove a version of Conner and Floyd's theorem for generalized manifolds.     

Oscillator strength of a two-dimensional D ion in magnetic fields

In the present paper we determine the oscillator strength of two-dimensional (2D) D⁻ ions under the influence of a static magnetic field. The results are important for the analysis of the optical transitions observed in semiconductor quantum wells. We have applied the ab initio procedure Hyperspherical Adiabatic Approach, based on the use of hyperspherical coordinates. This approach uses an adiabatic separation of the total wave function that allows accurate energies determination from molecular-like potential curves. The convergence is obtained in a systematic way by the inclusion of non-adiabatic couplings without the need of adjustable parameters.     

Should Epstein strip arrangement be changed?

The paper describes effect of texture on the anisotropy of magnetic properties and shows that an Epstein strip arrangement including strips cut in a direction 45° to the rolling direction gives property values that are closer to the average values than the traditional RD+TD arrangement.     

Inhomogeneous two-fluid cosmologies

A new class of expanding cosmological solutions is derived. The matter content of these models is a mixture of two interacting simple fluids: the first one, homogeneous and isotropic with equation of statep = (-1), the dynamics of which is given by the FRW equation and the second one an inhomogenous dust. The limiting case of two dusts corresponds to the Szekeres' universes of class II. A large subclass of the models evolve to a FRW phase for all physically meaningful values of the polytropic index and the curvature parameterk. A gauge condition, under which the metric is invariant, is shown to exist for k0. Crystal and molecular structure of nitrosyl(1,10-phenanthroline)-bis(triphenylphosphine)iridium(I) Dihexafluorophosphate, [Ir(NO)(phen)(PPh3)2][PF6]2

Summary The structure of [Ir(NO)(phen)(PPh₃)₂][PF₆]₂ has been determined from x-ray diffractometer data. The compound crystallizes in space groupPnam with four molecules in a unit cell witha = 19.924(12),b = 14.793(9) andc = 16.348(9) A. Full-matrix least-squares refinement has led to a final R value of 0.061 for the 4796 observed reflections. The structure consists of well-separated ions, and the geometry around the metal is trigonal bipyramidal with nitrosyl and bidentate 1,10-phenanthroline (in spite of the very narrow bite angle of 75.8°) ligands occupying the equatorial positions and the triphenylphosphine ligands the axial positions. The cation has an imposed crystallographicm symmetry. Important bond lengths are as follows: Ir-P, 2.391(3): Ir-N (nitrosyl) 1.700(12): Ir-N (1,10-phenanthroline) 2.103(12) and 2.142(11): N-O, 1.201(18)A. The nitrosyl ligand is linear [Ir-N-O = 179.9(9)°] so that this complex can be formulated as an NO⁺ complex of iridium(I).     

Chimie des complexes de metaux de transition avec des hydrocarbures cyanes : III. Quelques observations sur la conformation et la reactivite de complexes dicyclopentadienyles du molybdene et du tungstene

A new class of cyclic telluronium salts has been prepared. All the salts are stable in solution in CHCl₃ or dimethylsulphoxide (DMSO). Conductivity measurements in DMSO and dimethylformamide (DMF) have shown that considerable ion pairing occurs in solution. Infrared, ¹H, ¹³C, ¹²⁵Te NMR, and mass spectra are reported and discussed.
