Influence of allyl ethers in coating resins

The effects of allyl ethers in coating resins have been studied in relations to different systems. The details that have been investigated are: the reactions between allyl ethers-styrene-cobalt salt in air, the influence of cobalt salt on oxidized allyl ethers, and the interaction between allyl ethers and maleic esters with respect to copolymerization. The curing rates of allyl functional oligomers as coatings have also been studied. The results are summarized together with the results from a previous article by the same authors to give an overall view of the curing mechanism in allyl ether functional unsaturated polyester resins dissolved in styrene.     

Intertwining Olefin Thianthrenation with Kornblum/Ganem Oxidations: Ene-type Oxidation to Furnish α,β-Unsaturated Carbonyls

A widely applicable, practical, and scalable synthetic method for efficient ene-type double oxidation of alkenes is reported via a two-step alkenyl thianthrenium umpolung/Kornblum-Ganem oxidation strategy. This chemo- and stereoselective procedure allows easy access to various α,β-unsaturated carbonyls that may be otherwise difficult or cumbersome to synthesize by conventional methods. For α-olefins, this metal-free transformation can be tuned according to synthetic needs to produce either the elusive (Z)-unsaturated aldehydes or their (E) counterparts. Moreover, this strategy has enabled streamlined synthesis of distinct butadienyl pheromones and kairomones.     

Identification of Carotenoids in Hairless Canary Seed and the Effect of Baking on Their Composition in Bread and Muffin Products

Carotenoids are essential components in the human diet due to their positive functions in ocular and cognitive health. This study investigated composition of carotenoids in hairless canary seed (HCS) as a novel food and the effect of baking on carotenoids in bread and muffin made from HCS, wheat and corn. Three bread formulations made from wheat and HCS blends were evaluated and compared with control wheat bread. In addition, three low-fat muffin recipes prepared from HCS alone or in blends with corn were assessed. The fate of carotenoid compounds in breads and muffins was monitored after dry mixing, dough/batter formation and oven baking. Carotenoids in products were quantified using UPLC and their identification was confirmed based on LC-MS/MS. Hairless canary seed and corn were fairly rich in carotenoids with a total content of 7.6 and 12.9 µg/g, respectively, compared with wheat (1.3 µg/g). Nineteen carotenoid compounds were identified, with all-trans lutein being the principal carotenoid in HCS followed by lutein 3-O-linoleate, lutein 3-O-oleate and lutein di-linoleate. There were significant reductions in carotenoids in muffin and bread products. It appears that batter or dough preparation causes more reductions in carotenoids than oven baking, probably due to enzymatic oxidation and degradation. Muffin-making resulted in lower lutein reductions compared with the bread-making process. The results suggest that muffins made from hairless canary seed alone or in blends with corn could boost the daily intake of lutein and/or zeaxanthin.     

Effect of 1D correlations on the phase transition in quasi-1D metallic systems

1D–3D crossover is investigated in the Gorkov-Dzyaloshinskii model of weakly coupled metallic chains using the multiplicative renormalization group method. A two-step scaling procedure is carried out using different approximations in the 1D and 3D regions with matching at the crossover temperature defined here. In those cases when the 1D charge density wave (CDW) susceptibility diverges as T → 0, CDW-type phase transition is found to occur in the 3D system. The critical temperature of the transition is calculated.     

Narrow states in38,40Ar via alpha +34,36S scattering

Excitation functions of the elastic scattering α+ ^34,36 S has been measured at beam energies E _α =12.56–15.00 MeV. Strongly fluctuating large cross sections in backward angles have been observed. Angular distributions were measured in the range θ _lab =98°–173° for fourteen energies, and many of them turned out to be dominated by one exclusive angular-momentum value, a behaviour typical for resonance scattering.     

Strange particle cross sections and multiplicity distributions in 19 GeV/c proton-proton interactions

Inclusive cross sections are presented for strange-particle production in proton-proton interactions at 19 GeV/c for the pairs $\text{(}\text{K}{}^0\text{K}{}^0{}_{\mathrm{C=+1}}\text{,}\text{K}{}^0\text{Λ,}\text{K}{}^{\mathrm{+}}\text{Λ,}\text{K}{}^0\text{Σ}{}^{\mathrm{+}}\text{,}\text{K}{}^0\text{Σ}{}^{\mathrm{?}}$ and for Λ, K_s⁰, Σ⁺, Σ^? and Ξ^?. The $\text{K}\text{K}$, the KY and the total strange particle cross sections have been found to be 1.40 ± 0.10 mb, 2.69 ± 0.09 mb and 4.23 ± 0.20 mb, respectively. The charged multiplicity distributions for events with K_s⁰, Λ, $\text{(}\text{K}{}^0\text{K}{}^0\text{)}{}_{\mathrm{C=+1}}$ or K⁰ Λ are shown to follow a modified KNO curve, whereas K⁺ Λ does not. For the inclusive reactions $\text{pp}\text{→(}\text{K}{}^0\text{K}{}^0\text{)}{}_{\mathrm{C=+1}}\text{+}\text{X}{}^{\mathrm{++}}\text{,}\text{pp}\text{→}\text{K}{}^0\text{Λ +}\text{X}{}^{\mathrm{++}}\text{and pp}\text{→ Λ +}\text{X}{}^{\mathrm{++}}$, we find that the average charged multiplicity of the remainder system X⁺⁺ is the same as when X⁺⁺ is produced in other reactions with the same system energy and quantum numbers.

The effect of an external magnetic field on ferroelectric characteristics of BaTiO₃-type crystals is discussed and estimated in the framework of the vibronic theory of ferroelectricity.
