Solid iron compounds are extremely common in the environment as well as in meteorites and comets. Fe K‐edge XANES (X‐ray absorption near‐edge structure) measurements can be carried out quickly, theoretically allowing one to categorize many areas within a sample or set of samples in a short time. However, interpretation of such data is not straightforward unless one has the appropriate reference spectra, hence a way of classifying an unknown spectrum to a family group (trivalent, divalent, oxide, silicate etc.) is required. Methods of abstracting Fe XANES spectra to produce pairs of variables which, when plotted, cluster in distinct regions depending on the family are presented. For instance, divalent minerals fall in a different region than trivalent minerals, and sulfides in a different region than oxides.  相似文献

We demonstrate the operation of a quantum spin pump based on cyclic radio-frequency excitation of a GaAs quantum dot, including the ability to pump pure spin without pumping charge. The device takes advantage of bidirectional mesoscopic fluctuations of pumped current, made spin dependent by the application of an in-plane Zeeman field. Spin currents are measured by placing the pump in a focusing geometry with a spin-selective collector.  相似文献

We demonstrate that a broadband coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) spectrum generated with a typical two-pulse scheme contains two distinct, significant signals: '2-color' CARS, where the pump and probe are provided by a narrowband pulse and the continuum pulse constitutes the Stokes light, and '3-color' CARS, where the pump and Stokes are provided by two different frequency components in the continuum pulse and the narrowband pulse serves as the probe. The CARS spectra from the two different mechanisms show distinct characteristics in Raman shift range, laser power dependence, and chirping dependence. We discuss the potential for a 3-color CARS signal to cover the fingerprint region with reduced photodamage of live cells. Several surface analysis techniques were combined to study the initial stages of oxidation of Cu(1 1 1) surfaces exposed to O2 at low pressure (<5 × 10−6 mbar) and room temperature. Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) results show that the reactivity is governed by the restructuring of the Cu(1 1 1) surface. On the terraces, oxygen dissociative adsorption leads to the formation of isolated O adatoms and clusters weakly bound to the surface. The O adatoms are located in the fcc threefold hollow sites of the unrestructured terraces. Friedel oscillations with an amplitude lower than 5 pm have been measured around the adatoms. At step edges, surface restructuring is initiated and leads to the nucleation and growth of a two-dimensional disordered layer of oxide precursor. The electronic structure of this oxide layer is characterised by a band gap measured by scanning tunneling spectroscopy to be ∼1.5 eV wide. The growth of the oxide islands progresses by consumption of the upper metal terraces to form triangular indents. The extraction of the Cu atoms at this interface generates a preferential orientation of the interface along the close-packed directions of the metal. A second growth front corresponds to the step edges of the oxide islands and progresses above the lower metal terraces. This is where the excess Cu atoms extracted at the first growth front are incorporated. STM shows that the growing disordered oxide layer consists of units of hexagonal structure with a first nearest neighbour distance characteristic of a relaxed Cu-Cu distance (∼0.3 nm), consistent with local Cu2O(1 1 1)-like elements. Exposure at 300 °C is necessary to form an ordered two-dimensional layer of oxide precursor. It forms the so-called “29” superstructure assigned to a periodic distorted Cu2O(1 1 1)-like structure.  相似文献

We derive universal relations for the rf spectroscopy of a two-dimensional Fermi gas consisting of two spin states interacting through an S-wave scattering length. The rf transition rate has a high-frequency tail that is proportional to the contact and displays logarithmic scaling violations, decreasing asymptotically like 1/(ω2ln2ω). Its coefficient is proportional to ln2'(a'(2D)/a(2D)), where a(2D) and a'(2D) are the two-dimensional scattering lengths associated with initial-state and final-state interactions. The clock shift is proportional to the contact and to ln(a'(2D)/a(2D)). If |ln(a'(2D)/a(2D))| > 1, the clock shift arises as a cancellation between much larger contributions proportional to ln2(a'(2D)/a(2D)) from bound-bound and bound-free rf transitions.  相似文献

Combination of wet-grinding and laser fragmentation is a promising approach to advance both methods: Laser fragmentation will be more efficient when combined with mechanical treatment and wet-grinding may take advance of the abrasion-free laser process to achieve fabrication of smaller particles. By mechanical pre-treatment of zinc oxide microparticles in a stirred-media mill, the starting material is activated by generation of crystallographic defects, which strongly enhance the efficiency of subsequent laser fragmentation. Picosecond-laser irradiation of mechanically treated and untreated microparticles suspended in water yielded in colloidal zinc oxide nanoparticles. Furthermore, nanoparticle productivity and properties can be controlled by variation of anionic surfactant concentration.  相似文献

We use gate voltage control of the exchange interaction to prepare, manipulate, and measure two-electron spin states in a GaAs double quantum dot. By placing two electrons in a single dot at low temperatures we prepare the system in a spin singlet state. The spin singlet is spatially separated by transferring an electron to an adjacent dot. The spatially separated spin singlet state dephases in due to the contact hyperfine interaction with the GaAs host nuclei. To combat the hyperfine dephasing, we develop quantum control techniques based on fast electrical control of the exchange interaction. We demonstrate coherent spin-state rotations in a singlet–triplet qubit and harness the coherent rotations to implement a singlet–triplet spin echo refocusing pulse sequence. The singlet–triplet spin echo extends the spin coherence time to .  相似文献

We model trading and price formation in a market under the assumption that order arrival and cancellations are Poisson random processes. This model makes testable predictions for the most basic properties of markets, such as the diffusion rate of prices (which is the standard measure of financial risk) and the spread and price impact functions (which are the main determinants of transaction cost). Guided by dimensional analysis, simulation, and mean-field theory, we find scaling relations in terms of order flow rates. We show that even under completely random order flow the need to store supply and demand to facilitate trading induces anomalous diffusion and temporal structure in prices.  相似文献

A variable depth step implementation of the range-dependent acoustic model (RAM) is applied to the modeling of forward scattering from a rough sea surface. The sea surface is treated within RAM simply as an internal interface between a water layer and an air upper halfspace. A comparison with a numerically exact integral equation is undertaken for the scattering of single frequencies from Pierson-Moskowitz sea surfaces. The method is extended to model the variability of linear frequency modulated pulses from a series of frozen sea surfaces in a shallow water waveguide. The subsequent effect of rough boundary scattering on the replica correlation process is investigated.  相似文献
