Although controversial from the theoretical point of view, quantile risk measures are widely used by institutions and regulators.In this paper, we use a unified approach to find the optimal treaties for an agent who seeks to minimize one of these measures, assuming premium calculation principles of various types.We show that the use of measures like Value at Risk or Conditional Tail Expectation as optimization criteria for insurance or reinsurance leads to treaties that are not enforceable and/or are clearly bad for the cedent. We argue that this is one further argument against the use of quantile risk measures, at least for the purpose of risk-transfer decisions.  相似文献

We study the stability properties of the class of weak*-extensible spaces introduced by Wang, Zhao, and Qiang showing, among other things, that weak*-extensibility is equivalent to having a weak*-sequentially continuous dual ball (in short, w*SC) for duals of separable spaces or twisted sums of w*SC spaces. This shows that weak*-extensibility is not a 33-space property, solving a question posed by Wang, Zhao, and Qiang. We also introduce a restricted form of weak*-extensibility, called separable weak*-extensibility, and show that separably weak*-extensible Banach spaces have the Gelfand–Phillips property, although they are not necessarily w*SC spaces.  相似文献

The paper discusses numerical formulations of the homogenization for solids with discrete crack development. We focus on multi–phase microstructures of heterogeneous materials, where fracture occurs in the form of debonding mechanisms as well as matrix cracking. The definition of overall properties critically depends on the developing discontinuities. To this end, we extend continuous formulations [1] to microstructures with discontinuities [2]. The basic underlying structure is a canonical variational formulation in the fully nonlinear range based on incremental energy minimization. We develop algorithms for numerical homogenization of fracturing solids in a deformation–driven context with non–trivial formulations of boundary conditions for (i) linear deformation and (ii) uniform tractions. The overall response of composite materials with fracturing microstructures are investigated. As a key result, we show the significance of the proposed non–trivial formulation of a traction–type boundary condition in the deformation–driven context. (© 2005 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. In this paper, every monadic implication algebra is represented as a union of a unique family of monadic filters of a suitable monadic Boolean algebra. The proof goes as follows: the elementary conditions on a given functor translate into existence statements for certain adjoints that obey some lax commutativity; this, in turn, is precisely what is needed to prove the existence of partial products with that functor; so that the functor’s exponentiability follows from the works of Niefield (J. The unequal-areas facility layout problem is concerned with finding the optimal arrangement of a given number of non-overlapping indivisible departments with unequal area requirements within a facility. We present an improved optimization-based framework for efficiently finding competitive solutions for this problem. The framework is based on the combination of two mathematical optimization models. The first model is a nonlinear approximation of the problem that establishes the relative position of the departments within the facility, and the second model is an exact convex optimization formulation of the problem that determines the final layout. Aspect ratio constraints on the departments are taken into account by both models. Our computational results show that the proposed framework is computationally efficient and consistently produces competitive, and often improved, layouts for well-known instances from the literature as well as for new large-scale instances with up to 100 departments.  相似文献

A Riemannian manifold is called geometrically formal if the wedge product of harmonic forms is again harmonic, which implies in the compact case that the manifold is topologically formal in the sense of rational homotopy theory. A manifold admitting a Riemannian metric of positive sectional curvature is conjectured to be topologically formal. Nonetheless, we show that among the homogeneous Riemannian metrics of positive sectional curvature a geometrically formal metric is either symmetric, or a metric on a rational homology sphere.  相似文献
