Interfacial adsorption state of protonated lipophilic porphyrins in a liquid-liquid system by using reflection spectrometry.

Analysis by reflection spectrometry was performed to clarify the interfacial adsorption of protonated lipophilic tetraphenylporphyrin derivatives in a dodecane-aqueous sulfuric acid system, and to confirm the utility of partial reflection spectroscopy. Interfacial adsorption was not observed for porphyrins substituted at the 2,6 positions of meso-phenyl groups, suggesting that the substituents prevent porphyrins from forming aggregates by steric hindrance. Polymorphous J-aggregates of acid dications were produced by tetra-p-tolylporphyrin with a saturated interfacial molecular density of 1.0 x 10(-10) mol cm(-2), which could yield 48 degrees as a mean tilting angle of the pyrrole ring plane from the interface normal. Partial-reflection spectrometry can provide sensitive detection and molecular orientation analysis of interfacial adsorbates.     

Spatial distribution of YO molecules ejected from laser-ablated YBa2 Cu3 O7−x

One-dimensional imaging laser-induced fluorescence spectroscopy has been used for in-situ measurements of spatial distributions of YO molecules produced during the ArF-laser ablation of YBa₂ Cu₃ O _7–x in vacuum and oxygen gas environment. The time-integrated angular distribution of particles ejected in vacuum has a cos ⁿ form, where 11 <n < 13. When oxygen gas was introduced, YO molecules were confined in a smaller volume, and temporal changes of their spatial distribution were interpreted in terms of blast-wave formation.     

A novel rearrangement reaction in doubly charged ion mass spectra of acetophenone derivatives

A novel rearrangement reaction for a methyl group is found in doubly charged ion mass spectra of p-substituted acetophenone derivatives. The driving force for the reaction is discussed.     

Representation of molecular configurations by CAST coding method

A configurational CAST (CAnonical representation of STereochemistry) coding method, which represents relative and absolute configuration, is described. The configurational CAST codes are constructed by canonical rotation of the dihedral angles of the input structure before the CAST codes are assigned. Using the configurational CAST, configurational differences can be distinguished independently of conformational differences. Representation of enantiomers is also achieved by a mirror image conversion method. The CAST representation shows the distinctive characteristics of several diastereomers and conformers that were examined. The method clearly represents the differences in configurations. Applications to organic molecules having complex stereochemistry are also demonstrated.     

Laser-induced deposition of Ni lines on ferrite in NiSO4 aqueous solution

Maskless deposition of nickel lines on single crystalline Mn-Zn ferrite (MnO:ZnO:Fe₂O₃=31:17:52) has been investigated in a NiSO₄ aqueous solution by Ar⁺ laser irradiation. A high deposition rate of up to 36.4m/s was achieved by a single scan of laser beam. The purity of deposited nickel layers is up to 86%. In particular, well-defined values of laser power and laser irradiation time were necessary for effective deposition. The deposition process was found to be a thermochemical process.On leave from D. Molecular structure of carbonyl bromide as studied by gas electron diffraction

The molecular structure of COBr₂ has been determined as follows by an analysis of electron diffraction intensity: r_g(CO) = 1.178 ± 0.009 Å, r_g(C-Br) = 1.923 ± 0.005 Å and θ°_α(Br-C-Br) = 112.3 ± 0.4°. The uncertainties represent estimated limits of error. The observed systematic trends in the bond lengths and bond angles in carbonyl and thiocarbonyl halides are discussed.     

Flexible active matrix addressed displays manufactured by printing and coating techniques

A flexible electrochromic active matrix addressed display, including 8 × 8 pixels, is demonstrated by using solution processing based on standard printing and coating manufacturing techniques. Each organic electrochromic display (OECD) pixel and its corresponding organic electrochemical transistor (OECT) are located on different sides of the flexible PET substrate. Electronic vias generated through the plastic substrate connects each OECD pixel with one addressing OECT. When comparing this display with actively addressed OECDs with all its components located on the same side, the present approach based on this electronic via substrate provides an enhanced pixel resolution and a relatively more simplified manufacturing process. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
