Microwave-assisted synthesis of bipyrazolyls and pyrazolyl-substituted pyrimidines

We describe the preparation of 1,4′-bipyrazolyls and 4-pyrazolylpyrimidines by the reaction of 2-pyrazolyl-3-dimethylamino acrylate and acrylonitrile with double nucleophilic reagents such as hydrazines, urea and guanidine. Reactions were performed under microwave irradiation in 5-60 min. This is a useful procedure for the preparation of valuable compounds with applications in medicinal and coordination chemistry.     

Copper(II) complexes with 4-amino-N-[4,6-dimethyl-2-pyrimidinyl]benzenesulfonamide. Synthesis, crystal structure, magnetic properties, EPR, and theoretical studies of a novel mixed mu-carboxylato, NCN-bridged dinuclear copper compound

New Cu(II) complexes of sulfamethazine (4-amino-N-[4,6-dimethyl-2-pyrimidinyl]benzenesulfonamide, HL) [Cu(2)(CH(3)COO)(2)(L)(2)].2dmf (1) and ([Cu(L)(2)].2H(2)O)(infinity) (2) were prepared and structurally characterized. Compound 1 crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P2(1)/n, with a = 8.9486(9) A, b = 15.0956(12) A, c = 16.542(3) A, beta = 105.584(15) degrees, and Z = 2. Compound 2 crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P2(1)/c, with a = 13.8097(8) A, b = 14.5765(4) A, c = 13.7853(15) A, beta = 96.033(9) degrees, and Z = 1. In compound 1 two copper ions are linked by two syn-syn acetates and two nonlinear NCN bridging groups pertaining to the deprotonated sulfamethazine ligands. Each copper center presents a nearly square planar geometry. Magnetic susceptibility data for 1 show a strong antiferromagnetic coupling with 2J = -216.7 cm(-)(1). The EPR spectra at the X- and Q-band frequencies present the signals corresponding to the dinuclear entity, being the zero-field splitting parameter, D = 0.265 cm(-)(1). The antiferromagnetic exchange coupling is discussed using DFT calculations on some model compounds with NCN bridging ligands and also on model structures with mixed mu-acetato and NCN bridges. The copper in the polymeric compound 2 is five coordinate. The CuN(5) chromophore has a highly distorted square pyramidal geometry with small axial N-Cu-N angles of 65.53(14) and 59.90(13) degrees. In the structure a sulfamethazinate anion binds to one copper through the sulfonamido and pyrimidine N atoms and to an adjacent copper via the amino N atom.     

The surface of ordered mesoporous benzene-silica hybrid material: an infrared and ab initio molecular modeling study

Joint IR and computational results allow a detailed characterization of the surface properties of a mesoporous benzene-silica hybrid material with crystal-like wall structure. After outgassing at 450 degrees C, hydroxyl species mainly consist of noninteracting silanols, with both O-H and Si-O stretching modes at lower frequencies than those of SiOH in silica. Interaction with several probe molecules, followed both by experiment and calculus, shows that the aryl group in the coordination sphere of Si imparts a lesser acidity with respect to the isolated silanol in silica. In contrast, adsorption isotherms indicate that the interaction with acetone is stronger with benzene-silica than with silica: this is interpreted in terms of secondary interactions taking place between the slightly acidic CH in acetone and the electronic cloud in benzene-like rings. This suggests that both the inorganic component and the organic one play a role in dictating the surface behavior.     

Determination of cadmium by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry after microwave-assisted digestion of animal tissues and sewage sludges

The determination of cadmium in different sample types has been carried out by electrothermal atomization atomic absorption spectrometry with D(2)-background correction using a unpyrocoated graphite tube, after pressurized microwave-assisted digestion. Five chemical modifiers [(NH(4))(2)HPO(4), Pd(NO)(3))(2), Ni(NO(3))(2), thiourea and Triton X-100] have been assayed and nickel nitrate has been found to be most effective for an accurate determination of cadmium in mussel tissue, pig kidney and sewage sludge. The characteristic mass of the method is of the order of 1 pg and the limit of detection is lower than 0.1 ng/ml.     

Invertomers at nitrogen in aziridine carboxylates by mltltinuclear (1H,13C,17O,and15N) NMR study

A confrgurational and conformational study of NH, N-acetyl- and N-sulfonylaziridine carboxylates is performed by¹H ,¹³C,¹⁷O, and¹⁵N NMR spectroscopy. The presence of acetyl and su fonyl groups on the ring nitrogen atom seems to reduce greatly the configurational stability at nitrogen.Published in Khimiya Geterotsiklicheskikh Soedinenii, No. 9, pp. 1226–1234, September, 1995.     

Mass spectrometry of 3,4-dihydroquinazolin-4-ones of pharmaceutical interest. Part 3 . Electron ionization mass spectra of 2-substituted-3-(5′-pyrazolyl)-4(3H)-quinazolinones

The fragmentation reactions induced by electron impact of eighteen title compounds has been investigated with the aid of low beam energy spectra (14 eV, nom. value), metastable ion detection, high resolution measurements and labelling experiments. The loss of the 4-carbonyl oxygen together with the 3-substituent, which constitutes a characteristic fragmentation route of 3-aryl and 3-heteroaromatic substituted-4(3H)-quinazolinones, is again observed, but the presence of a carboxyethyl group at the 4′-position of the pyrazole ring is responsible of an anomalous loss of 47 daltons from the molecular ion. Lastly, a comparison with the previously described behaviour of 3-(5′-isoxazolyl) derivatives was carried out.     

A novel synthesis of 3-cyanoindoles and a new route to indole-3-carboxylic acid derivatives

2-Alkyl-3-cyanoindoles are obtained when 1-alkylmethyl-2-chloro-(or 2-phenylsulfonyl)-3-phenylsulfonylindoles are reacted with excess azide ion (90°/DMF). The reaction is considered to occur by a fragmentation recombination process in which the Schiff's base $\text{12}$ is of central importance. This proposal is supported by the formation of 2-substituted indole-3-carboxylates $\text{17}$ from aldehydes and the α-phenylsulfonyl-$\text{o}$-aminophenylacetic acid ester derivative $\text{16}$.     

Reaction of methyl 4-nitrobenzenesulfonate with Br- in water-formamide tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide micellar solutions

Summary The reaction methyl 4-nitrobenzenesulfonate + Br^- was studied in water-formamide tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide micellar solutions. A pseudophase kinetic model was used to quantitatively rationalize the kinetic micellar effects observed     

The exo-selectivity of the new non-natural chiral auxiliary (+)-(1R,endo)-2-benzonorbornenol in an asymmetric aza-Diels-Alder reaction

The recently reported compound (+)-(1R,endo)-2-benzonorbornenol (2) proved to be an efficient chiral auxiliary in the asymmetric aza-Diels-Alder reaction between cyclopentadiene and the N-benzyl imine of its glyoxylate, which afforded a virtually all-exo mixture of cycloaducts with a 1S:1R diastereomeric ratio of 63:37.     

IAEA analytical quality assurance programmes to meet the present and future needs of developing countries

For many years the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has been promoting analytical quality assurance and quality control in its Member States with emphasis on measurands that are amenable to analysis by nuclear and related techniques, i.e. radionuclides, trace elements, and stable isotopes. This paper reviews briefly the rationale for some of these activities, particularly in relation to the needs of participants in developing countries arising out of co-ordinated research programmes, technical co-operation projects and global and regional networks. Emphasis is given to biological and environmental reference materials with a matrix of natural origin. Also described are some activities arising out of the requirements of ISO-25 and other relevant international quality standards.
