A “smart” biofuel cell switchable ON and OFF upon application of several chemical signals processed by an enzyme logic network was designed. The biocomputing system performing logic operations on the input signals was composed of four enzymes: alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH), amyloglucosidase (AGS), invertase (INV) and glucose dehydrogenase (GDH). These enzymes were activated by different combinations of chemical input signals: NADH, acetaldehyde, maltose and sucrose. The sequence of biochemical reactions catalyzed by the enzymes models a logic network composed of concatenated AND/OR gates. Upon application of specific “successful” patterns of the chemical input signals, the cascade of biochemical reactions resulted in the formation of gluconic acid, thus producing acidic pH in the solution. This resulted in the activation of a pH-sensitive redox-polymer-modified cathode in the biofuel cell, thus, switching ON the entire cell and dramatically increasing its power output. Application of another chemical signal (urea in the presence of urease) resulted in the return to the initial neutral pH value, when the O2-reducing cathode and the entire cell are in the mute state. The reversible activation–inactivation of the biofuel cell was controlled by the enzymatic reactions logically processing a number of chemical input signals applied in different combinations. The studied biofuel cell exemplifies a new kind of bioelectronic device where the bioelectronic function is controlled by a biocomputing system. Such devices will provide a new dimension in bioelectronics and biocomputing benefiting from the integration of both concepts. 相似文献

The reaction of laser-ablated Al atoms and normal-H(2) during co-deposition at 3.5 K produces AlH, AlH(2), and AlH(3) based on infrared spectra and the results of isotopic substitution (D(2), H(2) + D(2) mixtures, HD). Four new bands are assigned to Al(2)H(4) from annealing, photochemistry, and agreement with frequencies calculated using density functional theory. Ultraviolet photolysis markedly increases the yield of AlH(3) and seven new absorptions for Al(2)H(6) in the infrared spectrum of the solid hydrogen sample. These frequencies include terminal Al-H(2) and bridge Al-H-Al stretching and AlH(2) bending modes, which are accurately predicted by quantum chemical calculations for dibridged Al(2)H(6), a molecule isostructural with diborane. Annealing these samples to remove the H(2) matrix decreases the sharp AlH(3) and Al(2)H(6) absorptions and forms broad 1720 +/- 20 and 720 +/- 20 cm(-1) bands, which are due to solid (AlH(3))(n). Complementary experiments with thermal Al atoms and para-H(2) at 2.4 K give similar spectra and most product frequencies within 2 cm(-1). Although many volatile binary boron hydride compounds are known, binary aluminum hydride chemistry is limited to the polymeric (AlH(3))( solid. Our experimental characterization of the dibridged Al(2)H(6) molecule provides an important link between the chemistries of boron and aluminum. 相似文献
Dioxomolybdenum(VI) complexes derived from ethyl maltol (2-ethyl-3-hydroxy-4-pyrone) and 1-alkyl-2-ethyl-3-hydroxy-4-pyridin-4(1H)-ones have been prepared and characterized using physical methods including 1H- and 13C-n.m.r. spectroscopy, i.r., elemental analysis, and X-ray diffraction for the pyrone and 3-methylpyridine pyridinone derivatives. The octahedral complexes have the general formula cis-MoO2L2 where L = the deprotonated pyrone or pyridinone ligand. 相似文献
Bisoprolol fumarate is a beta blocker-type drug substance which has been well known for several decades. However, no relevant data can be found in the literature about its crystal polymorphism. The purpose of this paper was to present two anhydrous forms (Form I and Form II) and a hydrate of bisoprolol fumarate substance. Crystalline forms were studied by various solid-state analytical methods: Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), dynamic vapor sorption (DVS) and thermoanalytical methods (thermogravimetry and differential scanning calorimetry). Thermodynamic stability and solubility of the presented polymorphs were also investigated. Both FT-IR and XRPD methods were found to be suitable for the characterization of the different crystal structures. Thermoanalytical measurements showed that (1) Form I and Form II own clearly different melting points and (2) both Form II and hydrate forms can transform into Form I at higher temperature values. Results of the DVS measurements prove that both Form I and Form II became metastable under extremely humid conditions (>?80% RH) and converted into the hydrate. Thermodynamic stability studies showed that Form I and Form II polymorphs are in enantiotropic relationship with an enantiotropic point at about 40–45 °C. Solubility studies indicated that all of the prepared forms are highly soluble, and no difference was found between them. Considering the recommendations of the corresponding International Conference of Harmonization guideline, it can be stated that no specification is required for crystal polymorphism in case of this substance.
A knowledge of the speciation of vanadium in human serum is essential for an understanding of the biotransformation of antidiabetic vanadium complexes in human blood and of how vanadium is transported to the target cells. Such information may be acquired by two completely different approaches: separation techniques and modeling calculations. This review focuses on the latter. The two major metal ion binders in human serum are apotransferrin (apoTf) and human serum albumin (HSA), the interactions of which with VIVO and VV are discussed in detail. A partially new model for HSA–VIVO interactions is introduced, in which the two binding sites (one for two and one for one metal ion) compete not only with each other, but also with hydrolysis of the metal ion.Focus is also placed on the possibility and importance of ternary complex formation between VIVO, serum proteins and drug candidate ligands (maltol (mal), 1,2-dimethyl-3-hydroxy-4(1H)-pyridinone (dhp), acetylacetone (acac) and picolinic acid, (pic)): the structures and formation constants of different ternary complexes reported by the different research groups are critically reviewed. The serum speciations for VIVO and VV are calculated through use of the most recent stability constants; at biologically relevant concentrations (~1 μM, but definitely <10 μM) the apoTf complexes predominate for both metal ions. This has the consequences that the primary role of the drug candidate ligands of the original complexes is a carrier function until the vanadium is taken up into the serum, and the vanadium ion itself is the active metabolite responsible for the antidiabetic effect. 相似文献
Understanding molecular orientation on a metal surface is key to designing molecular electronic device junctions. Though platinum device electrodes are of particular interest as a more stable alternative to the often used gold electrodes, the chemisorption of conducting molecules onto platinum surfaces has not been thoroughly studied. We present herein the first detailed study of the ability and manner in which soluble oligothiophene isocyanides, of lengths ranging from 2 to 7 nm, chemisorb onto platinum surfaces and nanoparticles. It was found that these oligothiophene isocyanides stand at a 41 degrees angle from the platinum surface normal, suggesting their applicability in molecule-bridged platinum electrode devices. 相似文献
A bridging chemistry process was developed to form an ether bridge between 6-O and 11-O of erythromycin A via a tandem or stepwise palladium-catalyzed bis-pi-allylation. By applying this bridging process, new 6,11-O-bridged bicyclic ketolides (BBKs) were synthesized. These BBKs showed good antibacterial activities against the macrolide-susceptible strains as well as mef-resistant strains and served as a good core for further modifications to study the structure-activity relationship (SAR) and to overcome bacterial resistance. Laser-induced fluorescence spectrum of NiI in the near infrared region of 714-770 nm has been recorded. Seven bands belonging to three electronic transition systems were observed and analyzed: the (0,0), (1,0), and (2,0) bands of [13.3] (2)Sigma(+)-A (2)Pi(3/2) system; the (1,1) and (0,1) bands of [13.9] (2)Pi(3/2)-X (2)Delta(5/2) system; and the (0,0) and (1,0) bands of [13.9] (2)Pi(3/2)-A (2)Pi(3/2) system. Spectra of isotopic molecules confirmed the vibrational quantum number assignment of the observed bands. Least-squares fit of rotationally resolved transition lines yielded accurate molecular constants for the v=0-2 levels of the [13.3] (2)Sigma(+) state, the v=0 level of the A (2)Pi(3/2), and the v=1 level of the X (2)Delta(5/2) state. The vibrational separation, DeltaG(1/2), of the ground state was measured to be 276.674 cm(-1). With the observation of the [13.9] (2)Pi(3/2)-A (2)Pi(3/2) and [13.9] (2)Pi(3/2)-X (2)Delta(5/2) transitions, we accurately determined the energy separation between the A (2)Pi(3/2) and the X (2)Delta(5/2) to be 163.847 cm(-1). This confirms that the order of the A (2)Pi(3/2) and X (2)Delta(5/2) states in NiI is reversed when compared with other nickel monohalides. 相似文献
