ESR studies in γ‐irradiated and PS‐radiation‐grafted poly(vinylidene fluoride)

The fluoropolymer poly(vinylidene fluoride) was irradiated with γ rays to induce a polystyrene (PS) radiation grafting via an indirect method. Electron spin resonance and Fourier transform infrared studies were performed to identify the species that initiated the PS grafting. Specific experiments were performed to prove separately the importance of each kind of radical. A localization of the radicals in this irradiated polymer is proposed, and a kinetic model of the grafting is given. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Thermal diffusivity study of cheese fats by thermal lens detection

In this paper we used thermal lens spectrometry to determine the thermal diffusivity of cheese fats. We have used equal concentrations of cheese fats from oaxaca, chihuahua, gouda, manchego and mozzarella cheeses at 42°C temperature. The two lasers mismatched mode experimental configuration was used with a He-Ne laser, as a probe beam and an Ar⁺ laser as the excitation one. The characteristic time constant of the transient thermal lens was obtained by fitting the theoretical expression to the experimental data in order to obtain the thermal diffusivity of the cheese fat samples. This measured thermal property may contribute to a better understanding of the cheese fats quality, which is very important in food industry.     

不锈钢材料及TiN镀膜处理后PSD测试实验研究

PSD性能是评价电子储存环真空室材料及材料表面处理优劣的一个重要指标.对一约1.5m长不锈钢管道真空室进行了镀TiN薄膜处理,并在合肥光源机器研究用光束线(MSB)的PSD实验站上对该真空室在镀TiN薄膜处理前后分别进行了PSD性能测试实验研究.测试研究结果表明,TiN薄膜处理对于减小不锈钢材料PSD有非常明显的作用.     

Solutions of Weakly-Perturbed Linear Systems Bounded on the Entire Axis

We establish conditions under which solutions of weakly-perturbed systems of linear ordinary differential equations bounded on the entire axis R emerge from the point = 0 in the case where the corresponding unperturbed homogeneous linear differential system is exponentially dichotomous on the semiaxes R ₊ and R _–.     

On Fitting Ideals of Certain étale K-groups

Let F be an Abelian number field and S the set of primes of F that are either ramified or over p, with p an odd prime. In this paper we compute the (first) Fitting ideal of K _2i–2 ^ét (O _F ^S () for i 2, where O _F ^S is the ring of S-integers of F and is a character of Gal(F/) of order prime to p different from the ith power of the Teichmüller character. This Fitting ideal proves to be principal and generated by a Stickelberger element.     

Modal decomposition method for modeling the interaction of Lamb waves with cracks

The interaction of the low-order antisymmetric (a0) and symmetric (s0) Lamb waves with vertical cracks in aluminum plates is studied. Two types of slots are considered: (a) internal crack symmetrical with respect to the middle plane of the plate and (b) opening crack. The modal decomposition method is used to predict the reflection and transmission coefficients and also the through-thickness displacement fields on both sides of slots of various heights. The model assumes strip plates and cracks, thus considering two-dimensional plane strain conditions. However, mode conversion (a0 into s0 and vice versa) that occurs for single opening cracks is considered. The energy balance is always calculated from the reflection and transmission coefficients, in order to check the validity of the results. These coefficients together with the through-thickness displacement fields are also compared to those predicted using a finite element code widely used in the past for modeling Lamb mode diffraction problems. Experiments are also made for measuring the reflection and transmission coefficients for incident a0 or s0 lamb modes on opening cracks, and compared to the numerical predictions.     

Synthesis and luminescence of a novel conjugated europium complex with 6-parachloroaniline carbonyl 2-pyridine carboxylic acid

A novel organic ligand, 6-parachloroaniline carbonyl 2-pyridine carboxylic acid, and the corresponding europium complex, tris(6-parachloroaniline carbonyl-2-pyridine carboxylate) europium (III) have been designed and synthesized. The results showed that the synthesized product was a conjugated complex, emitting remarkable strong red luminescence, and was a good red luminescence material with good thermal stability. The ⁵D₀ lifetime of Eu³⁺ in the complex was examined using time-resolved spectroscopic analysis. The lifetime values for 1.0×10⁻⁵ mol/l ethanol solution of the complex and for the complex solid were 0.49±0.01 and 1.94±0.01 ms, respectively.     

Tracer studies on f-actin fluctuations

We present a study on the fluctuations of semiflexible actin filaments using fluorescence videomicroscopy, focusing on the end-to-end fluctuations of single filaments. In order to specifically measure the position of the polymer's ends, we developed a novel noninvasive method that consists of annealing short end tags to the filaments. This allows us to probe polymer fluctuations to a very high accuracy. We compared the distribution of the end-to-end distance with recent theoretical results, and found excellent agreement. We also studied the dynamics of the mean-square end-to-end distance deltaR2(t) and orientation of the ends, deltaTheta(2)(t), finding power laws t(3/4) and t(1/4), respectively. Scaling behavior for deltaR2(t) is observed over several decades in relaxation time in agreement with theoretical results.     

Gas phase infrared spectroscopy of selectively prepared ions

The first example of direct structural characterization of polyaromatic ions by coupling a Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometer with an infrared free-electron laser is presented. Measurement of the IR spectra of selectively prepared ionic reactive intermediates is allowed by the association of the high peak power and wide tunability of the laser with the flexibility of the spectrometer, where several mass selection and ion reaction steps can be combined, as demonstrated in the case of iron cation complexes of hydrocarbons. The present experimental setup opens the way to understanding chemical reaction paths.
