The occurrence of electrochemical processes during the operation of an electrospray ionization (ESI) source is well established. In the positive ion mode, electrons are drawn from the ESI metal capillary to a high voltage power supply. These electrons are the product of charge-balancing oxidation reactions taking place at the liquid/metal interface of the ion source. In a recent study, (Anal. Chem.2001, 73, 4836-4844), our group has shown that the introduction of a ground loop can dramatically enhance the rate of these oxidation processes. Such a ground loop can be introduced by connecting the sample infusion syringe (or the liquid chromatography column, in the case of LC-MS studies) to ground. The magnitude of the ground loop current can be controlled by the electrolyte concentration in the analyte solution, and by the dimensions of the capillary connecting the syringe needle and the ESI source. Using ferrocene as a model system, it is demonstrated that the introduction of such a ground loop can significantly enhance the signal intensity of analytes that form electrochemically ionized species during ESI. However, analytes that form protonated molecular ions, such as reserpine, also show higher signal intensities when a ground loop is introduced into the system. This latter observation is attributed to the occurrence of electrolytic solvent (acetonitrile and/or water) oxidation processes. These reactions generate protons within the ion source, and thus facilitate the formation of [M + nH](n+) ions. The structure of the dye layer adsorbed on the titania substrate in a dye-sensitized solar cell is of fundamental importance for the function of the cell, since it strongly influences the injection of photoelectrons from the excited dye molecules into the titania substrate. The adsorption isotherms of the N719 ruthenium-based dye were determined both with a direct method using the depth profiling technique neutral impact collision ion scattering spectroscopy (NICISS) and with the standard indirect solution depletion method. It is found that the dye layer adsorbed on the titania surface is laterally inhomogeneous in thickness and there is a growth mechanism already from low coverage levels involving a combination of monolayers and multilayers. It is also found that the amount of N719 adsorbed on the substrate depends on the titania structure. The present results show that dye molecules in dye-sensitized solar cells are not necessarily, as presumed, adsorbed as a self-assembled monolayer on the substrate. 相似文献

The radiation induced graft copolymerization of m-isopropenyl-α,α-dimethyl benzyl iso-cyanate (m-TMI) and styrene onto polypropylene was carried out. The extent of grafting increased with increasing amount of styrene and with increased radiation dose. A graft load of 180% was obtained by immersing a 50 kGy pre-irradiated film in a monomer solution containing 25 mol % m-TMI and 75 mol % styrene. The graft copolymer is suitable for covalently binding nonpolymerizable stabilizers with a suitable nucleophilic moiety. In this work the isocyanate moiety of the graft copolymer was allowed to react with 4-amino-2,2,6,6-tetramethyl piperidine, a hindered amine light stabilizer. The creep behavior of nanocellulose films and aerogels are studied in a dynamic moisture environment, which is crucial to
their performance in packaging applications. For these materials, the creep rate under cyclic humidity conditions exceeds
any constant humidity creep rate within the cycling range, a phenomenon known as mechanosorptive creep. By varying the sample
thickness and relative humidity ramp rate, it is shown that mechanosorptive creep is not significantly affected by the through-thickness
moisture gradient. It is also shown that cellulose nanofibril aerogels with high porosity display the same accelerated creep
as films. Microstructures larger than the fibril diameter thus appear to be of secondary importance to mechanosorptive creep
in nanocellulose materials, suggesting that the governing mechanism is found between molecular scales and the length-scales

Protein cage nanoparticles (PCNs) are attractive platforms for developing functional nanomaterials using biomimetic approaches for functionalization and cargo encapsulation. Many strategies have been employed to direct the loading of molecular cargos inside a wide range of PCN architectures. Here we demonstrate the exploitation of a metal-ligand coordination bond with respect to the direct packing of guest molecules on the interior interface of a virus-like PCN derived from Salmonella typhimurium bacteriophage P22. The incorporation of these guest species was assessed using mass spectrometry, multiangle laser light scattering, and analytical ultracentrifugation. In addition to small-molecule encapsulation, this approach was also effective for the directed synthesis of a large macromolecular coordination polymer packed inside of the P22 capsid and initiated on the interior surface. A wide range of metals and ligands with different thermodynamic affinities and kinetic stabilities are potentially available for this approach, highlighting the potential for metal-ligand coordination chemistry to direct the site-specific incorporation of cargo molecules for a variety of applications. 相似文献

Silver-mediated α-dC–Ag+–β-dC hybrid base pairs decorated with 5-iodo- or 5-octadiynyl residues are well accommodated in duplex DNA. A strong Tm increase and favorable thermodynamic data for duplex DNA were observed after addition of silver ions. The phenomenon is particularly obvious when both nucleobases of the base pairs are functionalized. Neither the position of the base pair, nor the type of 5-substituent had a negative influence. On the contrary, functionalization of conventional silver-mediated β-dC–Ag+–β-dC homo base pairs showed a negative impact induced by the bulky substituents. To this end, cytosine modified 12-mer oligodeoxynucleotides were prepared by solid-phase synthesis employing new α-anomeric 2′-deoxycytidine phosphoramidites. A multigram scale synthesis was developed for 5-iodo-α-d -2′-deoxycytidine ( 1 ) employing the direct glycosylation of cytosine with Hoffer's α-d -halogenose followed by separation of anomeric DMT nucleosides. Regarding base-pair stability and functionalization silver-mediated α/β-dC hybrid base pairs were found to be superior to β/β-dC homo pairs.
